Put your heart and soul into whatever you do and you will shine through.Ignite the fire from within and always give your best in all that you choose to do.
Unique on its own. Special as a set. We’re commemorating our 45th anniversary with a special Vibrance & Vitality 2018 Series that resonates with our continuous journey towards greater heights. Look forward to collecting all four issues as we share our stories together.
In his inaugural CEO message in Q1 of Texview, Mr Yap Kee Keong asks that we transcend and put forth
every effort to surpass our performance. When we do so, our success will automatically shine through. This quarter, our Group CEO introduces Quantum LEAP, a mechanism to steer us and our culture in the right direction through Pride of Association, Transcending People Power and Building a Solid People Foundation. All these are being put into place so that Texchem will continue to grow and provide a positive and happy work environment to the employees and to the community at large. However, to ensure the organisation grows, we as employees must also grow in tandem with the organisation by expanding our knowledge, skills and abilities to achieve our full potential and wherever possible transcend and surpass our past performance. For a better understanding on the Quantum LEAP mechanism, read the CEO’s message on page 5.
Continuing our feature interview with our female senior management, this quarter, Texview speaks to Dr Pun Meng Yan, Deputy Managing Director of Texchem Polymers Sdn Bhd which you can read about on page 6.
On pages 14 to 17, Texview introduces to you the new Corporate Affairs Committee line-up effective 1 July 2018 with Ms Debi Phuah as the new Chairperson, taking over the helm from Dr Yuma Konishi. Congratulations are in order for Hoshino Coffee, which opened its third outlet in Malaysia, and its second outlet in Penang, the most recent being at Gurney Plaza. Read more about what this upscale café offers on page 18.
Dear colleagues, I end my message by urging all of you to discover your abilities and let them shine. Let us take the LEAP!

2. Bridging the gender diversity gap; 3. Continue to strengthen Texchem as a positive and happy
workplace and a place where all of us can contribute to the community at large.
In this article, I would like to share with you the new mechanism that we are going to put in place across the organisation; Quantum LEAP, which means a very large or significant development. In our organisation’s context, LEAP, stands for Leveraging on Employee Accelerated Partnership.
Quantum LEAP is the mechanism to steer us in getting our bearings and culture towards the right direction. Why do we need to grow? Which areas do we want to grow? How do we continue to grow and excel? What strategies must we put in place to support growth? Who are our change agents to move the Company forward? What and how can each one of us contribute more? These are essential questions where each of us must challenge ourselves to fuel our leap forward. It is also about building a positive and competitive employee partnership in our corporate culture. What is corporate culture? It is the way we do things around this organisation. It is the

way people solve problems, interact with time (speed & efficiency), interact with each other and the environment.
As structure follows strategy, under the umbrella of Quantum LEAP strategy, there are 3 focus areas i.e. Pride of Association, Transcending People Power and Building a Solid People Foundation to ignite the culture change.
Through “Transcending People Power”, I believe that ordinary people can do extraordinary things. I call upon you to revisit your current areas of work with fresh eyes and see what areas can be improved or be more productive and add value to the organisation. Each of us can make a difference to bring our organisation to a higher level of achievement. We also must be proud to be a Texchemer, hence, this is where “Pride of Association” focuses on. This cannot be achieved without “Building a Solid People Foundation”. One of the ways is to own our self-learning and development. We should continuously learn and search for new knowledge. In the new era of connectivity, internet and industry 4.0, resources are readily available at our finger tips. I urge each of you to take charge of your learning and development and rise to a new chapter for Texchem.
To support the Quantum LEAP within Texchem, the following have been put in place.
Re-branding of Presidential OfficeThe Presidential Office shall concentrate on strategic planning to achieve sustainable performance for all companies in the Group via; financial reviews, operations reviews and people culture development and corporate social responsibility.
Appointments of Cultural AmbassadorsCulture Ambassadors have been appointed to drive a positive culture and to act as change agents. Cultural Ambassadors shall organise activities that promote pride of association and transcending people power. Suitable personnel shall continue to be recruited as Cultural Ambassadors to cascade this concept throughout the Group.
Under this latest development, I ask for all Texchemers to give your fullest support to the Presidential Office personnel and Cultural Ambassadors, as we work towards making Texchem a vibrant and productive organisation for all of us.
Texchemers, let us make the LEAP forward!

Meet Dr Pun Meng Yan, Deputy Managing Director
of Texchem Polymers Sdn Bhd BY ADELINE YEOH (TEXCHEM RESOURCES BHD)
This quarter, Texview features an interview with Dr Pun Meng Yan, Deputy Managing Director of Texchem Polymers Sdn Bhd. Mild
in manner and soft in speech, I find myself intrigued by the strength of the soft-spoken Dr Pun, who is the mother of two teenagers; a 19 year old daughter and a 16 year old son, and an advocate in adopting green lifestyle and products to meet modern aspirations and needs. The following are the excerpts of her interview with Texview.
Q : Tell us a bit about yourself.I was born in Seremban, Negeri Sembilan. My parents have 4 children i.e. 3 daughters and a son. I am a twin, and my twin sister and I are just 10 minutes apart at birth. My father was a Plantation Manager and he managed many estates throughout Malaysia which belonged to the then Guthrie Group (which has since been bought over by the Sime Darby Group). My mother stopped working after the birth of her children. I can imagine it must have been quite a handful taking care of 3 young children. My brother is just one year older than me and my twin. Due to the nature of my father’s job, frequent changes took place and adapting to new environments was part and parcel when we were growing up. My siblings and I attended at least 3 primary schools and 3 secondary schools at various locations in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and Johor. We have lived in Negeri Sembilan and Johor twice at different stages of our lives. Being a close knit family, my father brought all of us along when he was transferred from estate to estate. However, when we were about to reach high school, he decided to send us all back to Seremban to stay with our maternal grandmother to minimize the disruption to our education.
Q : Tell us about a project or accomplishment that you consider to be the most significant in your career.Obtaining eleven Intellectual Property Rights in ten countries for TEXa formulations can be considered one of the most significant milestone of my career as well as that of Polymer Research Center or TXPO. These IP rights are testimonies of the originality and novelty of the concept that we have adopted in the development of TEXa Bioplastics.
Q : What is your vision for the company moving forward?I have vision for TXPO to become a technology based company that produces competitive and dynamic bioplastics.
Q : How do you keep up a healthy work life balance?I wake up early every day to squeeze in 30 to 60 minutes of stretching and exercise routine before going to work. Weekends are my family days and I normally cook for my family.
Q : Tell us a bit about TEXa and why are you so passionate about it. I am an advocate for green living and healthy lifestyle hence, working on green materials and developing TEXa is not just the R&D road map of TXPO but it is a cause that I believe in. In TXPO, we are working with nature to create sustainable bioplastics that can be made into products for our daily use; i.e. from personal care products to tableware, household products, stationery, furniture and etc. TEXa uses agricultural waste in its formulation, hence this reduces the carbon footprint of the final product. The use of such bioplastic product is a small step towards reducing our personal carbon footprint. If each of us can play a small part for the environment, we are able to preserve the environment for our future generations.
Q : How many subordinates report to you? And what is their male/female ratio? I have 60 in my team at TXPO and the male vs female ratio is 44 to 16.
Q : Tell us about your first job.Like most fresh graduates, I was keen to pursue a career in a foreign owned company that can offer a better salary. My first job was with Seagate Penang where I was hired as a Process Engineer. I was enthusiastic and excited initially when the job was new and there was much to learn, however, when routine fell in, I realised that this was not the type of career I wanted. My application to enter the National University of Singapore came through at that time and I went on to take up my Master’s Degree in NUS and from there I started the journey of my career in the field of Research and Development.
Q : Describe to us your journey and career in Texchem.I joined Texchem Pack in October 2002 as the R&D Manager for the then Polymer Conversion Lab. I was hired to lead the R&D team for the black conductive HIPS for sheet extrusion and thermoforming process. I had a very simple laboratory back then with only 2 single screw extruders and a lab technician. Over the years, together with my team, we built the Polymer Research Center to its current state where we now have the analytical laboratory, plastic testing laboratory and advance process laboratory that is equipped for compounding, sheet extrusion and injection molding. This year I have crossed another milestone in my career when I was entrusted the role of Deputy Managing Director of Texchem Polymers. I have come a long way from managing a laboratory to having the opportunity to manage a company.
Q : What are you most grateful for in life?I have a supportive family as well as good and caring maids that have helped take care of my two children as well as my home so that I am able to go to work with no worries. I am also grateful to have a career out of something that I love to do.
“ “This year I have crossed another milestone in my career when I was entrusted the role of Deputy Managing Director of Texchem Polymers. I have come a long way from managing a laboratory to having the opportunity to manage a company.

Sushi Kin Took Part in the 9th Halal Certification Bodies Convention
BY SUHAILA BINTI SAGHIL @ YUSOF (SUSHI KIN SDN BHD)
The Halal Hub Division of JAKIM organized the 9th Halal Certification Bodies Convention from 1st to 3rd
April 2018 at Le Meridien Hotel, Putrajaya. A total of 700 delegates from 52 countries attended the convention.
Sushi Kin Sdn Bhd was invited as a panel member for the forum titled “Halal is a Bright Future”. Mr Akihiko Hijioka (President & COO of Texchem Restaurant Systems Sdn. Bhd) represented Sushi King. Other panel members were Mr Mohd Aminuddin Sham Tajuddin (Director, Halal F&B and Agro-Based, MATRADE) as the moderator, Mr Othman Bin Md Yusof (Chairman, Federation of Malaysian Manufactures-FMM) and Ms Hamidah Minhaj (Director of Global Regulatory Affairs Asia Pacific, Colgate-Palmolive Asia Limited). During this forum, we shared with the delegation our experiences in obtaining the Halal certification and the positive impact to the business.
As a new comer in the Halal industry with less than two years, it is Sushi Kin’s pride to be chosen as a panel in this convention!
Q : You have always struck me as someone who is very calm and composed. How do you maintain such equanimity?Oh, I am glad to know that others see me as someone calm and composed. Personally, I place great emphasis on acquiring and improving my EQ as it determines how we interact and treat people in our lives and how we are going to cope with pressure when faced with a crisis. I have learned through my past encounters as well as those experiences of others that in many circumstances, EQ is more important than IQ in ensuring ones well-being, happiness and success in life.
Q : How do you think women’s role at work and at home have evolved over the years?Although we have more and more women in the work force now compared to the olden days, you will still find that women generally remain as the homemaker especially in the Asian household.
Q : Why do you think there is a general perception that female bosses are more difficult to work with? This is simply because they have more things on their plate; multiple roles that they are taking on as mother, wife, homemaker and career woman, hence the no-nonsense attitude in most women bosses. They simply do not have time to beat around the bush and prefer a more direct and straightforward approach. They are also more decisive. These traits may be misinterpreted or misconstrued as being difficult.
Q : Do you face challenges balancing work expectations and family? I believe this is just a matter of time management and self-discipline and anything can be overcome.
Q : Texchem is aiming to increase the number of female staff in the management level. Based on your personal experience, what would be the one piece of advice you would give to the management to ensure the success of this? Our Management is already doing very well in this area. Generally, the hiring and grooming process in Texchem shall play an important role in increasing the number of female staff in the management level.

- Joint Exhibition, Propak Vietnam 2018BY GARY LEE (TEXCHEM MATERIALS (VIETNAM) CO LTD)
Texchem Materials (Vietnam) Co., Ltd., is proud to jointly participate in Propak Vietnam 2018 with Roki S&S Malaysia.
The exhibition was held at SECC Hall, Ho Chi Minh City from 20th to 22nd March 2018. This was the first time Texchem Vietnam and Roki S&S Malaysia participated in Propak which is an annual event.
Propak Vietnam is one of the major exhibition in Vietnam with 496 exhibitors from 31 participating countries, and this year it attracted more than 8,223 trade visitors from 36 countries. It is the largest international trade event for the rapidly expanding processing and packaging industries in Vietnam and Indochina. This annual event is dedicated to technology suppliers involved in the food and beverages, pharmaceutical processing and packaging, plus printing and labeling industries; bringing together thousands of industry leaders and professionals from all segments of the supply chain under one roof. Our team was the only Industrial Filter Cartridge/System exhibitor in this event among the many different exhibitor profiles, which attracted much attention from event attendees.
Roki Group was established since 1978 under the name of Nippon Roki Co., Ltd. in Japan. With more than 30 years of filter cartridge experience, Roki Filter is one of the leading filter cartridge brands in the world with global partners like 3M Company (USA), Samsung SDI Co., Ltd (Korea), Akzo Nobel N.V. Working Trip to Tokyo, Japan in March 2018 BY DAVID NGO (KOKUBU FOOD LOGISTICS MALAYSIA SDN BHD)
On 27th to 30th March 2018, I was given the privilege to attend a training program organised by our JV partner
Kokubu Corp Japan.
I arrived at Narita Airport in the early morning of 27th March and was warmly greeted at the arrival hall by M.Ishihara san and Jacky Kesuma san. From there we moved to Kokubu Misato Distribution Centre which is located at Misato Interchange at Tokyo Gaikan Expressway, about an hour’s drive from Narita. Upon arrival at Kokubu Misato DC, we were greeted by Y.Kishimoto san and M.Takebayahi san. I then proceeded for my training program.
Day 1 training focused on warehouse operation. I was able to witness for myself the high discipline and efficiency of Japanese workers. How work flows from one stage and moves seamlessly to the next stage – from In-bound Receiving, Labelling & Storage, Gross Picking, Sorting, up until the stocks were loaded into trucks. The most fascinating part is Kokubu internally developed Gate Assorting System (GAS). This system enables them to delivery accurately to more than 1,500 outlets every day.
Day 2 training session covered Distribution. I was introduced to Truck Fleet Management, Truck Maintenance, Delivery Rules, Driver’s Manual & Health Care, Transport Cost Structure, Optimising Load Factor, etc. They even conduct alcohol level testing on truck drivers using a breath analyser. Upon returning to Malaysia, I plan to introduce some of these into our Truck Fleet Management.
Day 3 training consisted of reviewing the overall training subjects and identifying which parts can be suitably adopted
for KFLM operation in Malaysia, while bearing in mind the differences in work culture and warehouse facilities at both countries.
On the evening of 28th March, T.Akiyama san (Director, Head of Logistics Group) hosted a dinner for us. Also present were Mr Wong Kin Chai and A. Hijioka san. Others from Kokubu were K.Hayashi san and A.Motohashi san.
We were lucky as our trip coincided with the peak blooming of Sakura flowers. After dinner, we took a stroll at Chidorigafuchi Park to enjoy the Sakura flowers bloom. It was indeed a most beautiful sight.

Sugino san’s Visit to Myanmar – 27 to 31 May 2018
BY GOH CHIN MENG (TEXCHEM FOOD MYANMAR LIMITED)
Mr Masayuki Sugino, the new President and COO of Food Division paid his first visit to Myanmar on 27th May 2018. Upon
arrival at the Yangon airport, Mr Sugino travelled straight to Labutta, accompanied by Mr Goh Chin Meng, Deputy MD of Texchem Food Myanmar Limited. The journey took about 6.5 hours, and in between we had to cross the river Myaung Mya by a small vehicle barge due to the recent collapse of the Myaung Mya bridge.
Once we reached Labutta, Mr Sugino was ushered by Mr Randolph, Assistant GM of Texchem Marine Labutta Limited (TMLL) to the Soft Shell crab and Hamaguri processing area at TMLL. Mr Sugino posed some questions to our Production and QA teams and they responded well to the enquiries.
The following day, after a light breakfast of Mohinga (Myanmar’s rice noodle in fish soup), Mr Sugino was brought to visit several raw crab collecting stations together with Mr Soh Chee Weng, Assistant GM, R&D of Texchem Food Sdn Bhd. Mr Soh explained about some natural behaviors of the crab.
Next, we visited the Soft Shell crab farm and the adjacent Barramundi fish farm. Our farm operations team generously shared all relevant information about crab and fish farming. Mr Sugino was also shown the construction base for the crab hatchery facility.
Before departing to Yangon, Mr Sugino conducted a discussion with our key staff in TMLL, whereby some topics are related to HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) management. He also spent some time to introduce himself and his management style.
On 29th July, both Mr Brian Tan and Mr Sugino flew to Myeik, accompanied by Mr Ng Bak Kuang and Mr Goh Chin Meng. Mr Chan Kheng Hsin, General Manager of ASK Andaman Limited guided Mr Sugino to visit all the processing factories. Similar to Labutta, we gathered all the key staff from ASK Andaman Limited (ASKA) and Texchem Food Myanmar Limited (TFML) to introduce themselves to Mr Sugino. We also visited Crab Island that same day. We returned to Yangon the next day. At the Yangon office, a meeting was held whereby Mr Sugino took the opportunity to be introduced to all the key staff and to address his management style and expectations. That evening, we had a good dinner with Mr Sugino and invited U Maung Sitt, our long term business associate to join us.
Mr Sugino expressed that he plans to visit Myanmar on a regular basis and our team looks forward to more future visits.
Mr Sugino’s message to his Food Division team :
“I have just returned from my second trip to Myanmar (end June) and I shall be most appreciative of those who look forward to work together with me and to drive the change together. My task is to encourage my staff and team to openly discuss opportunities and problems together and to find a solution together; once we have done so, we shall move ahead as a team to complete the mission. I am most excited and proud to be with you at this time. May the Force be with you and me.”

Chamber Concert at Villa Primavera on Saturday 19 MayBY JUNE CHEANG (TEXCHEM RESOURCES BHD)
Sergei Glavatskih narrating his experience in selecting Steinway Grand Model B-211 in Hamburg on 23rd February 2018 for and on behalf of Texchem –
“I have no words to express how wonderful was my trip around the factory, and how much I thank Steinway representatives – Mr Guido Zimmermann, VP & MD of Steinway & Sons Europe, Mr Gerrit Glaner, Steinway Concert & Artist Manager and Mr James Ledgerwood who received me at the hotel where I stayed and accompanied me to the factory. I have always considered Steinway pianos the best in the world, much before I could afford my own, and I can only feel my visit to Steinway factory as a precious gift or a miracle. Although I am now just a teacher, I cannot forget that I used to be a pianist. I love pianos, I knew the name “Hamburg Steinway factory” from early childhood, and it had always been a sort of sacred place for me. Visiting there would be one of the most remarkable impressions of my life. The photographs, they are very important for me, I want to keep this memory.”

On 19th May, the Steinway Grand made its debut, “A Harmony Of Melodies” by renowned pianist Sergei Glavatskih
accompanied by cellist Oleg Bugaev and flutist Gareth McLearnon at Villa Primavera. The trio performed popular classics by Chopin, Liszt and Faure as well as traditional Irish tunes, “Danny Boy”, “Brian Boru’s March” and “Belfast Hornpipe” and a lot more.
The concert was attended by an overwhelming response from seasonal guests, with a special appearance by the Russian Ambassador H.E. Valery Yemolov and his wife, Madam Irina who came all the way from Kuala Lumpur. It was a splendid honour to the hosts of Villa Primavera.
A sumptuous Japanese dinner by Miraku was specially prepared and served, paired by carefully chosen wines. With so much to catch up with each other, the joyous party ended close to midnight, yet the night was still young…
Messages from Datin Seri Irene Yeap & Dato’ Danny Goon, both long time good friends of the hosts, the Konishis –
“I am indeed honored to be asked to deliver a “Thank You” address to you and your distinguished guests. There were so many things I wanted to say but in the excitement, I may have forgotten to mention some; in particular the haunting heart-rending beautiful tribute of the piece, Sakura by the musicians to acknowledge your generosity and vision for music here in Penang. Penangites are so very lucky! Sakura is the epitome of all that is Japan and Japanese, and it describes the beauty externally and internally of your wife Puan Sri Atsuko. What a magical evening.” - Datin Seri Irene Yeap
“The big event was of course, the introduction of the new Steinway. The host was very proud of it and spoke about how it all came about, the purchase decision process, the on-site selection by Sergei, etc.
For perhaps the first time, Sergei was accompanied, by Oleg Bugaev the Cellist, and Gareth Mclearnon the Flutist. They contributed much to the guests’ delight. Gareth was in a very colourful shirt, and took a seat in the hall when not performing, which was so refreshing! He also played several solo numbers including what he said was the most beautiful song in Ireland, “Danny Boy”. The lyrics of Danny Boy were penned by my former boss, Fred Weatherly’s uncle, an eminent Queen’s Counsel also named Fred Weatherly, just after the 1st World War.
The concert is the longest, if my memory serves me right, and did not end till just after 9pm after two very enthusiastic encores by Sergei, who was so keen to continue enjoying the Steinway! He probably hit every key in the process.” - Dato’ Danny Goon
A thank you note from a lovely couple -“Dear Tan Sri & Puan Sri, thank you ever so much again for a wonderful and very special evening at your beautiful Villa Primavera. As always, it was very joyful - especially the Astor Piazolla pieces at the end; one of our favorite composers!”
- Anna Maria Braun & Tim-Niklas Schopp

our restaurant’s offerings, while 8 volunteers gave up their Sunday to set up, run the stall, and exuberantly marketed and served fair goers to raise as much funds as possible for the hospital. Special shoutout to Mr Boey (Sushi King), Mr CK Ooi and Ben Wong (Yoshinoya), Ms Tong CB and Ms Ng GC (Sea Master), Ms Adelyn Cheah (Doutor), TLC committee members, Industrial’s People Culture Development lead Ms Tan Wen Li and project lead Ms Adeline Yeoh for planning, seeking sponsorship and selling coupons to ensure the Texchem booth was a success. A big thank you to all Texchemers who purchased a total of 85 tickets to the food fair.
The saying “in helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us” proves true as, while we dedicate ourselves to lift some burden off the shoulder of cancer patients, we learnt not to take health for granted and to find compassion within ourselves.
It is Texchem management’s vision that the Group’s dedication to improving community should be driven by employee volunteerism, and so we hope more Texchemers will also participate and drive volunteering efforts in future.
On Sunday, 6th May, Texchem took part in the “Ho Chiak” Charity Food Fair to raise funds for Mount
Miriam Cancer Hospital, a not-for profit cancer hospital, in support of the hospital’s mission to serve cancer patients in need, regardless of nationality, race, belief or income.
While Texchem Resources Bhd sponsored a stall at a cost of RM5,000; Sushi King, Yoshinoya, Doutor Coffee and Sea Master showed solidarity in helping cancer patients by generously sponsoring bento sets, beef bowl rice, coffee and chigiri-age for sale at the food fair. Our booth proved to be a hit and RM2,415 was generated from the sale of the sponsored food and beverage. 100% of the sales proceeds were donated to Mount Miriam for its Needy Cancer Patient Fund, which disburses about RM100,000 to needy patients every month, as well as the hospital’s Development Fund, set up to enable the hospital to invest in the latest cancer treatment technology.
It was simply heartening to see Texchemers taking to heart Texchem’s community work. Staff from various participating outlets worked hand-in-hand with Texchem volunteers to ensure the food and beverages were delivered on time by batches so that we uphold the high quality and standard of

Let’s KONGA!!!BY WINNIE KHO (TEXCHEM POLYMER ENGINEERING SDN BHD)
Texchem Ladies’ Club (TLC) brought KONGA, the hottest new dance-fitness trend in Australia to Mainland Penang
for Texchem ladies who enjoyed 8 sessions of exhilarating workout between April to May 2018. Classes were held every Thursdays, 6.30pm, at Chai Leng Park, Perai.
18 ladies took part in this program, and was proud to be Ms Jocelyn Pang, the highly energetic KONGA instructor’s first batch of students in Prai, as this program is still new in Penang, and the search for a good instructor was a challenge in itself.
After 2 years of organising Zumba classes for the benefit of Texchem ladies working in Prai, TLC took the initiative to bring in a fresh program which most people would not have the opportunity to experience otherwise. We found KONGA to be completely different from Zumba. The class incorporates easy-to-follow dance moves with high intensity boxing, cardio, dance and sculpting moves, all set to the hottest beats from
decades of hit songs. We did squats, burpees, sprints and sweated a lot at every class, yet, we enjoyed every minute of it. Jocelyn, a very patient instructor, coached us step-by-step whenever we needed help. An hour of KONGA could burn over 700 calories due to the “switch-up” formula with sustained high intensity moves. Furthermore, KONGA also helps improve coordination, boost metabolic rate and increase joint mobility.
Whether one is very fit or totally uncoordinated, KONGA is great for a full body workout as its moves are designed to shape, sculpt & redefine the body. If you are interested to know where you can KONGA, you may contact TLC for more details.
As Mahatma Ghandi said “It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver”. Hence, we hope more will join us in future, to workout, sweat and stay healthy together.

Before we enjoyed the long stretch of public holidays, the Myanmar staff celebrate the Water Festival every year by water-throwing or dousing one another, enjoying the food sponsored by the respective departments as well as having lucky draws, sponsored by the company. After that, we enjoyed the main event, which was a talent show by our own staff, whereby they performed various traditional and international dances until the sun goes down.
New Year 2018 Runs, sport events, games and team building are part of the yearly activities for the Myanmar team during the New Year from 1st to 4th January. These activities are carried out to keep up everyone’s motivation to stay fit, healthy and positive throughout the year. Yoga Swing and Real Rider Fitness ClassesBY KHAW TEOH SU PING (TEXCHEM POLYMER ENGINEERING SDN BHD)
Yoga also reminds us not to force ourselves into any posture, but accept where we are now; for being
forgiving and with enough practice, we will be able to execute the posture.
19 Texchem ladies who started the first Yoga Swing class on 5th April, went unsure of what to expect and found themselves having to deal with colorful looking hammocks; were soon transformed into yogis at the fourth and final class on 26th April.
The aid of a swing-like contraption helped the ladies refine their postures, deepen stretches, and safely invert to decompress the spine. Although we were put through various postures that truly challenged our strength, flexibility, and balance, laughter was a common sound which vibrated within the four walls of the class as it was both challenging and fun.
We have Yoga Instructor Janis Tan to thank for the 4 wonderful lessons. She is a US Yoga Alliance E-RYT200 (experienced registered yoga teacher) and ACE (American
Council on Exercise) certified Personal Trainer and was also the Head Teacher for the Bodybalance (Yoga, Tai Chi & Pilates) and Bodyvive (Cardiovascular and Functional Strength training) programs for Fitness First Penang - thus, the great versatility in every weekly class.
In May, 16 Texchem ladies who successfully registered for Real Rider, an indoor cycling class, were put through the pace on stationary bicycles which allows the rider to lean and turn on the bike to increase muscular activation throughout the body.
Each session comprised of warmup flat rides, all-out sprints, hill climbs and sudden descent. The sessions are functional, fun and pushed our workout to a whole new level. With music blasting in an indoor studio fitted with disco lighting, the riding classes were both sweat inducing and hip.
Both programs were organized by Texchem Ladies Club and took place at Team Powerhouse Fitness located in Island Plaza.
Yoga practitioners find that Yoga:• Brings a sense of calm
• Helps us reach a deeper spiritual place (no matter your religion)
• Knows no age limit • Helps us heal
• Teaches us to let go • Connects us with nature
For those who missed out on any of the programs as both programs were fully registered before the closing date, you may contact the gym for a trial. Team Powerhouse is also our Corporate Partner who offers Texchemers exclusive rates, so you may want to check the gym out.
