Netball Taster Session — 27th April 2015
Having had no Netball at the college for nearly two years due to low demand, We decided to bring a representative of England Netball into the college to see if we can drum up some interest. The session was well received and we had a number of people take part in the event. This has helped us to gauge whether it may have some uptake in September/October 2015 when indoor sport will return.
The session consisted of doing some shooting and passing drills, as well as some fun and challenging games. One of these games was designed to test new found knowledge of the positions in a netball team. How it worked was players had to score a basket, then run and place the appropriate position top on the court and then their team mates would do so, with the opposing team doing the same thing, and so on until all positions were placed.
The last game consisted of ‘keep away,’ which is for one team to keep the ball away from the other team for a minimum of 5 passes before shooting, if the other team intercepted then they’d have to do the same. This was the game that saw the most competitiveness spring forth from otherwise calm and collected students.
Football Team: : David Fakeye, Akeem Clarke, Poul Soares, Lucio Uare,Sampinto Uare, Mirand Silva, Charlie Waite, Kelce Simiao, Alie Sheriff, Shazib Miah, Ibrahim Bittar, Mansoor Nooristani

Sessa Cup Quarter Final: Bsix vs Barking and Dagenham College
On Wednesday 15th April 2015 Bsix college football team had a home game against barking and Dagenham College
the quarter finals of the Sessa cup. With Barking and Dagenham College beating us 4-3 in the league we wanted to put
things right and knock them out the cup, with it being over 26c and the hottest day in the year it made for a hard game.
As usual Bsix love to do things the hard way and went 2 goals down in the first 5 minutes, then we finally got going and
from a corner and a header from Sampinto with the ball going in a defender used his hand to stop the ball crossing the
line. So with the referee having no choice but to send their defender off they were down to 10 players and we had a pen-
alty. Lucio Uare stepped up and the keeper made
a great drive to save the penalty shot.
After the save it was one way traffic for the whole
half with Bsix at least missing 10 chances to score
with Lucio, Shazib and Akeem guilty of missing
plenty of great opportunities. With Bsix looking
like they would never score, it was great play from
lucio down the right hand side and found Shazib
with a cross and with a great half volley made the
scores 2-1 at half time.
With a strong team talk at half time I told the
players not to panic and the goals will come, the
second half was total domination from Bsix but unlike the first half Bsix were finally scoring their chances, with 3 goals
from Lucio and one from stand in captain Charlie Waite. David bsix gaolie was a spectator for the whole second half.
With this win we play Hackney Community College in the semi-finals.
Football Team: David Fakeye, Poul Soares, Ibrahim Bittar, Miranda Silva, Sampinto Uare, Kelce Simiao, Alie Sheriff, Archie Roberts, Lucio Uare, Amin Laziz, Abdullahi Ali and Eyyubhan Erdem
Trampoline— 17th April
Although it was not for an extended period, Trampoline started back at Bsix to finish off the year of sport. As a three week taster, we can safely assume that it will be a big hit as it comes back in the new year. We have an excellent coach who has been teaching trampoline for more than 5 years. Has been a regular face amongst the college students of East London and so you’re guaranteed to get first class training. Be sure to get involved from October 2015.

Semi-finals of the SESSA Cup: Bsix vs Hackney Community College
With both teams quite comfortably getting
through the quarter finals, with this being a local
derby and with a place in the finals up for grabs the
stakes couldn’t have been much higher.
It wasn’t good news before kick off with serval
players unable to attend for different reasons, but
the game had to go ahead and the players that
where available were ready.
With the game being played in a wonderful spirit,
hackney community college were dominating
procession in the first 10 minutes with BSix finding it
hard to get out their own half, but the saying is if
you don’t score when your dominating its always
dangerous and that’s exactly what happened, with
BSix first meaningful attack Amin was fouled in the
box and Lucio stepped up to score the resulting
penalty. But within 5 minutes hackney community
college got behind our backline and scored to
equalise. With both teams having good chances to
score in the first half, Lucio, Amin and Eyyubhan being guilty of not scoring for BSix the score finished 1-1 at half time.
So into the second half BSix almost stopped playing for the first 15 minutes and hackney community college punished us big time scoring 3 quick goals to
make the score 4-1, but with 20 minutes to go Lucio scored a wonderful goal to give BSix a life line. I have never seen a goal give a team such a lift in spirit,
but BSix was all over hackney community college now and with 15 minutes Sam pinto down the right cut in and was fouled in the box to give us another pen-
alty which Lucio scored. So with the scores 4-3, and with about 7 minutes to play Amin had a goal ruled off side which didn’t look like but it didn’t stop BSix
from pushing to get the equaliser and Amin popped up in the box to make the scores 4-4.
With the game now 4-4 BSix was trying hard to get the winner in normal time, but unable so the game headed into extra time. Straight from kick off Lucio
was put through by Eyyubhan but his left foot strike came back off the crossbar, and 5 minutes later hackney community college took a long range shoot that
came off the crossbar. So with both teams being very equal it went to penalties.
Lucio, Alie, Sam pinto, Poul and Eyyubhan scored all these to take it into sudden death and Kelce scored his to make it 6-6 but Abdullah unluckily hit the post
and hackney community college scored to win 7-6 on penalties.
Bsix could not have been any more proud of the boy’s effort and they
know they can hold their heads high after that great performance.

Duke of Edinburgh —16th and 17th April 2015
The Bsix students had their training a month beforehand and had been well and truly stuck into their DofE award. Part two of three regards their expeditions, the students were excited and nervous, with a new edition and one drop out the team dynamics had changed, but nevertheless welcomed. The initial trip was taken to Epping Forest, in February to give everyone a small taste of the outdoors, without venturing too far out from the comfort of E5. This time the expedition was a little further out, and located at the Chiltern Hills. Arriving late to the start destination due to one of the students (who will go unnamed) being unsure if they were going to attend on the morning of the expedition, the expedition instructor was raring to go as he knew we had a limited time to rendezvous at the camp site. The final checks were made, kit bags were checked and the team set off towards the first check point. It was assumed that seen as the group were following a trail along the canal, that it would be straight forward to locate the destination, however, these city dwellers managed to turn a half hour trek into a two and a half hour slog. Nevertheless they arrived looking in good health, just a little drained from the sun beating down on their foreheads. After a brief lunch the young intrepid adventurers set out on there next route, this was to be the toughest, as they were to pass through forest, farmland and open fields, making it more difficult to cross reference with their map and the landscape. This made it the perfect opportunity for the team to test their orienteering and navigation skills, especially as it was the whole reason for the expedition. Time ticks on, slowly, still no sight of the Bsix Students, the staff now begin to fear that they have been eaten by some wild animals of sort, or maybe picked off by some bridge trolls. The expedition leader then decides to search for them following their path in reverse, hoping to catch them somewhere on the trail. Fortunately he didn’t have to wonder to far from the trail before they were spotted on the horizon. Stretched out and feet dragging, they looked dishevelled and hungry, After setting up for camp, the energy was winding down, the guy’s and girl were starving. Ravenous and salivating, the delicious camp food began to cook on the trangias— spaghetti hoops, ‘the works’ food in a can and super noodles were the delectable cuisines of choice. Bellies full and a fire raging, nightfall came and the sandman came to visit. Everyone retired to their tents, preparing for the early rise. With the quiet of a campsite surrounded by woods, the silence was deafening, and the night seemed to last forever, then daylight struck with a blinding brightness. Camp taken down, breakfast consumed, the quartet set out for the final leg of their two day hike. As the instructors waited for them to arrive at checkpoint 1 an hour passed without hide nor hair of the group, once again… concern. 12pm, 1pm and finally 2pm arrived without so much as call or a message, panic stations, both staff members began to drive around the area, scouting for the lost group. Eventually it was decided to stay put at the final destination to see what had become of the unfortunate Bsix students. 2:30pm hits and the group appears, with mixed expressions on their faces, we can tell they had faced tribulations along their journey, but with a desire to return to the city as soon as possible, they bypassed the first check point and decided to go straight to Command HQ. An adventurous and unforgettable two days, the four students set out as curious teenagers and came back veterans of the wild. Trip three on the horizon...
Volleyball—24th April 2015
Bsix vs Newham College
With their league and cup games over, (beaten and knocked out by Colchester Sixth Form College AGAIN) BSix and Newham arranged a friendly competition to keep their volleyball
skills fiery and fresh.
Friday 24th April 2015 Newham College came to BSix College hoping for a win, but Bsix volleyball is probably the most successful sport in the college for the last 2 years and are very
strong, it has only been a momentary lapse of concentration, and having a full squad that has allowed the only team to have ever beaten them to do so. Playing a home game meant that all
negatively affecting issues could be eliminated, making for a powerful and formidable squad to don the courts.
Playing a mixed volleyball game meant the squad must consist of 6 players minimum and there must be 2 females on the court at any one time. BSix started slowly, it took them a
while to pick up momentum as it had been a while since they’d last competed seriously against another college team, so they’d only won the first set 25-21. With Kristians’ spiking as
dangerous as always and Alexsandra serving and setting superbly it was no surprise BSix won the first set.
After the first set and a stern talking top from their temporary coach—Steven Marshall- they had to take the game seriously, and with immediate effect the score in the second set
told of the skill that they possessed with BSix winning 25-11. With Justyna finally serving at her expected high standard and Keenan spiking the ball aggressively towards opponent’s faces it
was one way traffic in the second set, high speed traffic that required the other team to roll with it or get rolled over.
With the third set only up to 21 points, BSix students began to take their foot off the pedal as they were attempting ridiculously daring spikes, sets and serves. With the BSix student
onlookers present they were trying to put on an elaborate and memorable show, but Newham took great offense and decided to turn up the heat, taking the lead for the majority of the set
until BSix’s experience pulled through and won the last set 21-19. Alie Sheriff had the best game the team had seen from him all year and Kamil’s spikes for once were finally landing in
court and with Paulina’s super-fast serves causing Newham players nightmares it was wonderful to watch.
Good luck to the team as they leave Bsix this year and progress onto the next stage of work and University, it’s been a pleasure and we are sure to see you on the senior volleyball circuit.
