Honorable Adriano Espaillat
New York State Senate

New York, NY 10034
Dear Senator Espaillat,
I am pleased to inform you that the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (Port Authority) has
issued a notice to proceed to the developer, GWBBS Development Venture LLC, for the George
Washington Bridge Bus Station Redevelopment Project. The selected contractor is Tutor Perini.
This project is a public private partnership designed to modernize the station and increase the amount
of retail space to 120,000 square feet at an estimated cost of approximately $180 million. The project
will generate 330 construction job years and 700 permanent new jobs. Station upgrades include
numerous operational improvements, such as:
Increasing the number of gates from 17 to 21
Consolidated bus operations
Direct vertical circulation via new escalators and stairs
New technology and communications systems displaying arrival and departure information
The contract includes a goal of 12% minority-owned business enterprise (MBE) participation and 5%
women-owned business enterprise (WBE) participation across the project. The Port Authority, in
partnership with Tutor Perini, will convene a forum for all M/WBE businesses interested in learning
about subcontracting opportunities at this project.
The Port Authority will continue to work closely with elected officials and community stakeholders
to ensure that this project achieves maximum benefit for Northern Manhattan, and the region. We
look forward to providing you with regular updates about the project as they become available.
Should you have any immediate questions or concerns, please direct them to my staff member
Christopher Lee via phone at 212-435-6929 or via email at [email protected].
Sincerely,
Brian W. Simon
