The instrumentation requirements of the water/waste-water industries can be fully covered by the wide selection available with NIVELCO’s range of instruments. Originally a portfolio of level and pressure instruments were offered for this industry segment. Recently water analytical instruments have been added to widen the range of instruments to offer complete instrumentation packages that encompass all the technologies of water production and purification. Most of the instruments are available in ATEX Ex-approved types conforming to the latest requirements. Small and medium sized systems are easy to set up using NIVELCO’s MultiCONT process controllers that can read the measured values and program NIVELCO transmitters remotely. Alternatively, our NIVISION software can be used to integrate NIVELCO transmitters into a process visualization system.

WATER PRODUCTION PROCESS

WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEMIn the water production process pump controlling in small sumps can be solved by NIVOCONT K conductive switches and NIVOFLOAT float switches are ideal as back-up devices to increase the safety. To distribute the water to the customers is done by booster pumps, water towers or bladder pressure tanks. Level in the water tower can be measured with EasyTREK ultrasonic level transmitters from either the top or the bottom with NIVOPRESS D hydrostatic level transmitters.

WATER PRODUCTION WELLSThe water production wells are drilled into the ground layers rich in water where pumps are lowered to pump the raw water to the central water treatment facilities. Popular choice is the NIVOPRESS N submersible transmitter because it is suitable for measuring both water level and temperature in deep underground wells. The pressure of the water pumped from the wells is to be measured on the surface pipeline by NIVOPRESS NZ/ND or NIPRESS transmitters.

WATER TREATMENTYield of the input e.g. spa water is measured with ISOMAG electromagnetic flowmeters and temperature with THERMOCONT TT instruments. The organic and inorganic materials are removed either by mechanical filters or by adding coagulant materials to the water and the contaminations are separated in settling tanks. Continuous level measurement is recommended with EchoTREK / PiloTREK, measuring pH value of the clear water is with AnaCONT water analytical units.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PROCESS

SEWAGE LIFT STATIONSThe sewage is collected in underground sumps or pits, also known as wetwells or lift stations, and is pumped to the sewage treatment plant. The EasyTREK SP type non-contact ultrasonic level transmitter models with IP68 ingress protection are our number one recommendation for these measurement tasks, likewise the another popular choice for deep sumps, the NIVOPRESS N submersible level transmitters equipped with sewage adaptor. For fail-safe protection the robust NIVOFLOAT NW float level switches are suitable solutions. The input sewage from the network contains a lot of organic and non-organic materials in suspended form as well as in solution. This pollution has to be removed.

WATER / SLURRY TREATMENTThe purified wastewater can be streamed to any natural water after chemical inspection and yield measurement. Level controlling tasks of rotary drum screens are performed with ultrasonic level transmitters and detection of the generated foam on the top of the pools can be done with NIVOCAP CK capacitance level switches. The AnaCONT range of analytical measurement devices are ideal for the pH and DO analysis of the cleaned water. Open channel flow metering can be done using our Parshall flume and EasyTREK level transmitter. For calculation and data logging a MultiCONT controller can be used. The slurry separated in the sedimentation tank is transferred to the digester tank. The generated biogas is flammable medium this way only Ex type ultrasonic or MicroTREK guided wave radars can be used for level measurement tasks.
