    Summary of the River Friendly Landscape Program

    Rebate Amount: Residential Single FamilySmart Controller Rebate: Up to $250 for a WaterSense labeled smart irrigation controller.Landscape Rebate: $0.50/square foot up to $1,000 (front yard only, includes up to $250 for a smart controller).

    Rebate Amount: Residential Home Owner Associations and ApartmentsSmart controller rebate: Up to $350 per WaterSense labeled smart irrigation controller within retrofit area.Landscape Rebate: $0.50/square foot up to $2,500 ($5,000 square foot maximum).

    Appl icant must : Own the home and the property must have City of Sacramento water service. Non-property owners must receive written consent from the property owner to be eligible to participate in

    this rebate program and be a bill paying tenant. Agree to a pre- and post-inspection and follow the guidelines as outlined in the Customer Agreement.

    Project and receipts submittal must be completed prior to the post-inspection.

    River Friendly Landscape Requirements: During the site visit, Water Conservation staff will measure the size of the front lawn. Front and side yards

    qualify if they are visible from the street and are in front of any fencing. Replace lawn with low water-use plants or permeable landscape surfaces (mulch, decomposed granite,

    etc.). At maturity, the retrofit area will equal or exceed 50 percent plant canopy coverage. Artificial turf andsolid plastic sheeting is not permitted.

    Selected plants must be very low, low, and medium water use plants that are not listed as invasive withinthe Sacramento region. The City of Sacramento has created a list of accepted plants.

    Install a drip system for all new plant material (overhead irrigation from in-ground sprinklers isunacceptable). All drip valves must include a pressure regulator and filter.

    Smart controller must be installed if the customer has an automated irrigation system. Rebate is availableas noted above.

    Agree that lawn may not be reinstalled for a minimum of five years, or while you retain ownership of the

    property. If lawn is reinstalled during that time, the entire rebate amount must be refunded.

    Steps to Participate:1. Receive and completely fill out the forms within the application packet, including the Customer Agreement,

    the Plant Canopy Coverage Worksheet, a detailed sketch of your redesigned landscape along with a shortnarrative that describes whether you plan to modify your existing irrigation system, and a current photo.

    2. Submit your completed forms to the Water Conservation Office within 30 days of receipt of the application.Once approved, you will then be contacted for the initial pre-inspection. Your project must receive pre-approval in order to qualify for a rebate. The project must be completed within 90 days from the date of thesigned Customer Agreement.

    3. Complete your project within the timeframe and submit your final receipts for review. The Water

    Conservation Office will schedule a post-inspection upon review of the final receipts. If a landscapecontractor is used, materials and labor must be separated on their invoice. In addition, all materials must beitemized. Rebates are for materials only. No labor costs will be reimbursed. Post-inspection must takeplace within the 90-day period after the Customer Agreement is signed, unless an extension is granted.

    4. During post-inspection, City staff will verify completion of the project, ask you to turn on the irrigationsystem, and verify that the Smart" controller is programmed correctly.

    5. Rebates will be processed within eight weeks following City receiving your receipts and the post-inspection.
