Salary Range: £19,000 - £21,000 PA

Period of post: Creative Media Trainer – Reimagine, Remake, Replay: This is a fixed term post

until December 2021. Creative Media Trainer – Creative Learning Centre: Maternity cover until May

2019, with possibility of extension.

Pension Scheme: 6% employers pension contribution.

Probationary Period: The appointment will commence with a probation period of six months.

Notice: You will be entitled to receive and required to give one months’ notice to terminate your employment.

Annual Leave: In addition to public and privilege holidays, (currently 12 per annum) the annual leave entitlement is 21 days.

Hours of WorkYou will be required to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week Monday – Friday (excluding the lunch break). A flexi-time agreement is in operation which allows you, with the agreement of your line manager, to determine your own starting and finishing times within well-defined limits.

Please note this post will require evening and weekend work and the candidate will be required to work outside normal office hours.

Office Location: Nerve Centre, Derry~Londonderry, with frequent travel to around Northern Ireland.

Background to the Post: Creative Media Trainer – Reimagine, Remake, Replay

The Reimagine, Remake, Replay will see a consortium of lead cultural organisations – Nerve Centre, National Museums Northern Ireland, Northern Ireland Screen and Northern Ireland Museums Council – deliver an exciting regional project allowing young people to connect with and enhance museum collections using a mix of creative media and digital technologies. 

Over four years, 4,000 young people aged 16-25 from across Northern Ireland will make and curate their own exhibitions, take over museum and gallery spaces, and enhance existing exhibits and collections. Activities will involve writing, casting and directing their own films, working with heritage organisations to create apps and games, and using 3D scanners and printers as well as virtual reality and 3D filmmaking technology. The young people will also be able to work towards achieving Open College Network (OCN) accreditations.

The project aims to: Change young people’s attitudes to heritage Change museums’ attitudes to young people Harness young people’s imagination and creativity to reimagine, remake and replay

museum collections and other heritage Empower young people to create quality interpretive materials, including 3D

materials, exhibitions, film and interactive content and develop new audiences for heritage

Give young people new skills, accreditations and digital badges through engagement with heritage and digital creativity and improve their life chances

Build young people’s confidence and self-esteem

The energy and imagination of young people, combined with digital creativity, will create a new dynamic in the exploration and interpretation of collections held by museums, and create sustainable models for long-term youth engagement.

Job Description for Creative Media Trainer – Reimagine, Remake, Replay Post: Creative Media Trainer – Reimagine, Remake, Replay

Purpose: To deliver a variety of creative and digital media programmes with young people in museums across Northern Ireland.

Salary: £19,000 - £21,000 + 6% pension contributions Reports to: Reimagine, Remake, Replay Project Manager Location: Nerve Centre, Derry~Londonderry, with frequent travel to museums around Northern Ireland.

Objectives of the post:To successfully deliver digital creativity programmes with young people (aged 16-25) at museum locations across Northern Ireland, including in filmmaking, photography, design and digital fabrication, allowing participants to interact and engage with museum and heritage collections.

Reimagine, Remake, Replay Programme Outline

Reimagine, Remake, Replay will connect young people and heritage in multiple, meaningful ways through creative media and the latest digital technologies, from 3D printing to Virtual Reality film-making.

Project Themes:

● Youth engagement programme aimed at getting young people to engage with museums and heritage organisations in Northern Ireland

● Museums and heritage organisations will employ models of technological advancements, including FabLabs, filmmaking, virtual reality and gaming, to aid young people in exploring our heritage

● Will harness young people’s imagination and creativity to re-imagine, remake and replay museum collections and others aspects of our heritage

● Empower young people to create quality interpretive materials, including 3D materials, exhibitions, film and interactive content and develop new audiences for heritage

● Give young people new skills and accreditations through engagement with heritage and digital creativity and improve their life chances

● Build young peoples’ confidence and self-esteem● Increase the capacity of heritage organisations to work with young people and

develop long-term models of youth engagement for organisations

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Provide training, technical assistance and ongoing support that will develop the full potential of the Reimagine Remake Replay project across Northern Ireland.

2. Provide a range of digital media skills training to youth groups based at museums, a range, including filmmaking and editing, image manipulation, photography, digital music, animation, programming, games design, mobile technology, 3D design and fabrication, at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels.

3. Plan and deliver a range of innovative digital programmes with young people, linked to museums and their collections.

4. Support local museums and the Digital Museums Coordinator in recruiting and engaging young people.

5. Prepare digital and online materials, notes and guides for young people participating in the project.

6. Assist the Programme Manager and Digital Museums Coordinator to supervise and manage all equipment and resources including the booking of rooms, equipment etc.

7. Ensure that all equipment and resources of the Nerve Centre are maintained at the necessary level.

8. Assist colleagues in organising events and showcases and in the ongoing marketing and promotion of the Reimagine, Remake, Replay project.

9. Assist in recording information, capturing photographs and video that can be used to promote the project, both online and off, and for the purposes of project monitoring and evaluation.

10.Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of young people towards achieving accreditations and digital badges.

11.Keep up to date with technical advancements in creative media practice and trial new models of engagement.

12.Adhere to all relevant policies, including child protection, health and safety, procurement etc.

13.To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Project Manager in the furtherance of the objectives of the post.

The Nerve Centre was established in 1990 as a focal point for youth culture in Derry/Londonderry and is considered one of these island’s most dynamic and innovative creative media centres.

Our Creative Learning Centre has driven innovation in schools and community based creative media education for almost a decade, unlocking the educational potential of digital media with young people across Northern Ireland.

We seek to employ a new Creative Media Trainer to be based at the centre to support the delivery of a range of programmes under our Creative Learning Programme

Job Description for Creative Media Trainer – Creative Learning Centre

Purpose: To plan and deliver a range of educational programmes using digital media in a creative, innovative way for schools, youth organisations, teachers and youth leaders.

Salary: £19,000 - £21,000 + 6% pension contributions.

Reports to: Education Manager.

Objectives of the PostBased at the Nerve Centre’s Creative Learning Centre in Derry, the Creative Media Trainer will be responsible to the Director of Education.

The Creative Media Trainer will have the key responsibility of planning and delivering a range of educational programmes in new media technologies for schools, youth organizations, teachers and youth leaders.

The Creative Media Trainer core duties will be to: 1. Provide training, technical assistance and ongoing support that will develop the full

potential of the Creative Learning Centre in Derry to promote digital literacy within the formal and informal education sectors.

2. Offer schools and youth organizations a range of new media skills across PC, Mac, online, mobile and digital platforms to include film making and editing, image manipulation, photography, digital music, web design, animation, programming, games design, mobile technology, 3D design and fabrication, at introductory, intermediate and advanced levels.

3. Plan and deliver a range of innovative educational programmes, curricular and extra-curricular projects and workshops in new media technologies to schools, youth organizations and ‘hard to reach’ groups.

4. Plan and deliver a range of cross-curricular teacher-training programmes in new media technologies to teachers in the primary and post-primary and ITE sectors.

5. Plan and deliver training programmes for youth leaders in the use of creative technologies in the teaching of citizenship and cultural diversity.

6. Plan and deliver a range of education programmes and projects specially tailored to meet the needs of socially disadvantaged young people and ‘hard to reach’ groups.

7. Prepare digital and online teaching materials, notes and hand-outs for teachers and learners participating in the various educational programmes of the centre.

8. Assist the Programme Manager to supervise and manage all equipment and resources of the Creative Learning Centre, including bookings of rooms, cameras, computers, setting up equipment for workshops and preparing for outreach visits to school, etc.

9. Ensure that all equipment and resources of the Creative Learning Centre are maintained at the necessary level.

10. Assist colleagues in organizing special events and showcases and in the ongoing marketing and promotion of the Creative Learning Centres.

11. Assist colleagues in recording information, photographs and video that can be used for promoting the work of the Creative Learning Centre, both online and off, and for the purposes of project monitoring and evaluation.

12. To undertake any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Management of the CLC in the furtherance of the objectives of the post.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following:

A degree level qualification in a media / film / gaming / 3D / design or digital technology related area (or equivalent) and a minimum of 1 years’ relevant experience working in a creative, educational, youth or instructional environment

OR

A minimum of 2 A levels, grade C or above (or equivalent) PLUS a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience working in a creative, educational or instructional environment

Experience, Knowledge & Skills:

Technical Experience and Knowledge: Demonstrable knowledge of at least two of the following digital practices: digital video production and editing, digital photography and editing, digital fabrication (e.g. 3D printing, laser/vinyl cutting), coding, digital music production, virtual reality/ augmented reality development, graphic design, web design.

A good level of competency across digital media technologies including at least three of the following: Photoshop, Illustrator, Final Cut Pro, Flash, After Effects, Pro Tools, Apple Logic, Unity/similar game engines, or programming skills.

An understanding of how creative activities and digital technologies can be used to enhance learning.

An enthusiastic interest in areas such as moving image, games design, sound and audio capture, programming, 3D design/fabrication or music technology (or related field)

Excellent written and spoken communication skills combined with excellent presentation skills
