In some cases, embedded systems are part of a larger system or product, as in the case of an antilock braking

system in a car.

Embedded systems transmit instructions to other devices through networking via wires or without wires( wireless), programmed to operate automatically.

version of the "digital data center." A multimedia

center of a Guest-room device will include, a

digital television that doubles as a personal

computer, web browser, e-mail host; a stereo that

downloads tunes off of the Internet; and a video

camera that records and sends the video images

onto the Web.

Microsoft has announced a broad marketing initiative

targeting the Hospitality industries.

The initiative will leverage a wide variety of Microsoft

technologies including a number of Windows-powered

devices such as POS (point of sales/service) terminals,Pocket PCs, Smart phones, and Portable Media Centers,

kiosks, and handheld.

Windows Mobile-based Smart phones and Pocket PCs will

be utilized "to interact with guests in an enhanced and

powerful way," according to Microsoft.

Microsoft’s New announcement for Hospitality industry



On the application software side, Smarter Hospitality willuse Microsoft's .NET Framework programming model to

build XML-based Web services and applications. It will

also use SQL Server 2000 for native analytics and reports,

and Speech Server 2004 to deliver the business value of speech in a cost-effective way, Microsoft says. And, the

initiative will leverage MapPoint, an integrated set of

products and services providing mapping and location

solutions.

--by path guiding via LED’s to the lift

--Lift stops on designated floor with a message.

When the customer reaches the room the door opens as

it senses the RFID (acts as keys to the room).

The lights are automatically switched on and the control of

all the appliances is given to Media center.

--Can be read through clothing & body.--13.56MHz is “passive” can be used with wristbands

that don’t require battery.

RFID has read/write capability. Each RFID tag

contains a factory code built-in to the inlets computer

chip.

Simultaneous identification is possible

RFID dramatically improves system efficiency.

RFID are used in the bars and restaurants. Bar tabs can beaccessed from any terminal, to book restaurant orders,

which can then be printed, immediately in the kitchen.

The facility and the system can accepts payments in a

mixture of cash, credit cards or charged against a room.

Stock levels are updated automatically and the orders for the raw materials are placed automatically. The guest sales

history is stored for later use in marketing and reporting.



Pricing and Billing

Pricing & billing is done automatically. As soon as

the customer uses extra facility the account is

transformed to the front desk. You can choose to bill

immediately or on account.

Subject to appropriate security controls, specific staff

can be given authorization to override any pricing,

with full control.

Occupancy sensors will be the part of the rooms,

mainly because many rooms are left unoccupied for a

significant amount of time each day, typically with the

lights on. Reducing this load will result in measurable

savings.

The occupancy sensor is an energy-saving control

device that turns lights on and off depending on the

occupancy of the space being controlled. When people

are in the room, the lights are enabled on, and when

the room is vacated for a set period of time the device

turns off the lights.



The technology uses both passive infrared (PIR) andultrasonic (US) detectors.

PIR is efficient in small areas and US is most

effective in large spaces. Dual technology sensors,

composed of both PIR & US technologies, are

triggered by either heat or motion but require the

absence of both to shut off, alleviating false

triggering problems.
