Admissions Policy (Master’s Course)

The Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, based on its Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy,

expects to admit master’s students as described below.

Students who:

1. Have strong eagerness to learn, who wish to acquire deep expertise and understanding in a wide range of

fields from the basics to applications that include medical treatment in the areas of study related to biology

and life sciences, and who have basic academic knowledge for that purpose;

2. Wish to acquire interdisciplinary problem-searching and problem-solving abilities, which can integrate and l

ink different fields, along with broad general education, without being constrained by conventional

frameworks of research fields, and to create “science that can guide sustainable development”; and

3. Are aware of both academic fields and the real world, and who wish to acquire international

and interdisciplinary communication skills as well as practical capabilities in society.

Admission Policy of the Program

【Program of Basic Biology Master’s Course】

Based on its Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy, this program expects to admit students as described below.

Students who:

Have acquired basic knowledge and skills in biology at molecular, cellular, individual, ecological, and

evolutionary levels that should have been acquired in the related faculties;

Have a command of English strong enough to make a presentation on their own research in English; and

Have acquired common sense and ethical standards as a working member of society.

【Program of Mathematical and Life Sciences Master’s Course】

Based on its Diploma Policy and Curriculum Policy, this program expects to admit students as described below.

Students who:

Are equipped with basic academic abilities in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology;

Have an ambition to open up a new research field for the mathematical science, molecular science, and life

science fields as well as integrated fields; and

Have acquired common sense and ethical standards as a working member of society.

【General Selection】

1. Eligibility for application

Those who are any of the following correspond or are expected to correspond byMarch 31, 2019 are eligible for application:

(1) Graduate of a Japanese university;(2) Holders of academic degrees conferred by the National Institution for

Academic Degrees and University Evaluation of Japan in compliance with theprovisions of Article 104,Item 4 of the School Education Law of Japan;

(3) Those who have completed 16 years of formal school education outside Japan;(4) Those who have completed 16 years of formal school education in the

educational system of a foreign country by completing in Japan acorrespondence course operated by an educational establishment instituted inthe foreign country;

(5) Those who have studied at an educational institute in Japan that is designatedby the educational policies of a foreign country as providing university coursesof said foreign country (only those courses upon whose completion theindividual is recognized, by the educational policies of said foreign country, ashaving completed 16 years of formal schooling) and is specifically designatedby the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology(Hereafter referred to as the "Minister"), and have completed such courses;

(6) Persons who have been conferred, or expect to be conferred by March 31, 2019,a degree equivalent to a bachelor's degree through attending an overseasuniversity or other overseas school (limited to those whose education andresearch activities have been evaluated by persons who have been certified bythe relevant country's government or a related institution, or have beenseparately designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Scienceand Technology as being equivalent to such) and graduated from a programthat requires 3 or more years to complete (Includes graduating from a programimplemented by the relevant overseas school while living in Japan throughdistance learning, as well as graduating from a program implemented by aneducational facility established with the relevant overseas country's schooleducation system and has received the designation mentioned above).

(7) Those who have completed an applicable curriculum at an educationalestablishment that is located in Japan, is recognized as offering undergraduatecourses in the educational system of a foreign country (only educationalestablishments whose graduates are recognized as having completed 16 yearsof formal school education in the educational system of that country), and isseparately so designated by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports,Science and Technology of Japan;

(8) Those who have completed, on or after the date specified by the Minister ofEducation, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, a specializedcurriculum of a vocational school (only vocational schools whose period ofeducation is four years or longer and that fulfill other criteria specified by thesame Minister) that is recognized as such by the Minister;

(9) Those who have entered a postgraduate program incompliance with theprovisions of Article 102,Item 2 of the School Education Low of Japan, and whohave been recognized by relevant Graduate School of Hiroshima University ashaving academic ability appropriate for receiving postgraduate education;

(10) Those who are 22 years of age or older as of March 31, 2019 and arerecognized through an individual admission screening process by the relevantGraduate School of Hiroshima University as having academic abilityequivalent or superior to that of a university graduate; eligible for application:

(11)Those who were enrolled in a university for a period of three years or longer (including

those recognized by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and

Technology of Japan as being equivalent thereto) and who have demonstrated

excellent academic performance and obtained credits in subjects designated by the

relevant Graduate School of Hiroshima University.

Note:Individuals applying above eligibility requirements (9), (10) or (11) are subject to a

review of application eligibility.

Please see "5. Review of Application Eligibility and Approval" for details.

2. Application procedure

(1) Period of acceptance of application

・If submitting in person, application documents are accepted from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(Except Saturday, Sunday and national holiday).

・If sending documents by postal mail, you must send them by the registered letter, and

applications must arrive by 5 p.m. Friday January 11, 2019.

Note: If documents arrived after 5 p.m., Friday January 11, 2019, we can only accept documents

with the postmark dated on or before Wednesday January 9.

for Academic Degrees and University Evaluation (NIAD-UE) must submit a

certificate of bachelor’s degree issued by NIAD-UE.

Applicants who expect to apply for a bachelor’s degree from NIAD-UE must

submit a certificate of (scheduled) academic degree application issued by the

president or rector of their junior college or technical college.

Submit the original score sheet of a TOEIC® public test, TOEIC®-IP (including College TOEIC®), TOEFL®-iBT or iTP. Thosecarried out within the past two years

* The Program of Basic Biology will use TOEIC® or TOEFL® scores in place of a written foreign

language (English) test.

If you have multiple score certificates, submit one of them.

(3) Bank transfer method of application feeUse the specified form “Hiroshima University Bank Transfer Slip for the Entrance Examination

Fee(広島大学入学検定料振込依頼書)”. Write your name and address within the frames specified

in all the three slips. And then pay the amount at a city bank. (If you pay at a branch of Japan

Post Bank, you have to use a different form. In that case, present the official slip enclosed herein at

a window of Japan Post Bank and follow the instructions provided. Please note that you cannot

pay by transfer from an ATM of any bank, including Japan Post Bank). Also, please note that the

bank transfer fee shall be borne by the applicant.

Since only payment receipt with a bank stamp dated by the final date of the application period

shall be recognized as valid for an application document, please be sure to confirm the hours of

bank window service before making bank transfer.

The left part (入学志願票貼付用) of the “Hiroshima University Bank Transfer Slip for the

Entrance Examination Fee(広島大学入学検定料振込依頼書)”is regarded as the Certificate of

Examination Fee Payment. Paste this certificate on the Slip for Certificate of Examination Fee

Payment, specified in A of this Table.

The examination fee, once paid, will not be refunded for any reason.

Please note that application fees are non-refundable for any reason after the application forms

have been accepted.

However, in the following (1) and (2) cases, the application fees are refundable after deducting

the bank transfer fees. Therefore in such cases, please state the “reason of demand for return”,

“name”, “postal code”, “address” and “contact telephone number” in writing (in any format) and

send it surely with the attachment of the “proof of payment of the application fee” to the address

mentioned below by mail or fax by Friday, February 22th, 2019.

Then, we will send you by mail a “demand for return” form used for demand for the refund of the

6. Pre-arrangements for special needs applicantsThose who require special consideration for taking examinations and/or pursing anacademic program due to disabilities and other legitimate reasons must contact theStudent Support Group (Graduate Program) of the Graduate School of Integrated Sciencesfor Life by submitting a statement of information as described below (in free format) toseek advance regarding the necessary arrangements.

(1) Period of statement submission

Those who require specific arrangements, such as the preparation of examination texts in

braille, must contact the Student Support Group no later than Tuesday, December 11, 2018.

For other special needs applicants, the closing date is Monday, December 17, 2018.

Applicants who require special consideration are advised to contact the Student SupportGroup as early as possible since certain arrangements will require sufficient time forpreparation.

7. Announcement of results

The examinee numbers of successful applicants will be posted at the examination venue,and the results will be sent by post to all applicants who undergo interviews. The sameresults will be also published on the Internet (the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences forLife website)

8. Important Matters Regarding Application(1) Application documents submitted by post must be sent as registered mail; the front side of

the envelope must be marked 統合生命科学研究科入学願書在中 or "Graduate School of

Integrated Sciences for Life Application Documents Enclosed" in red.

(2) An incomplete set of application documents or inappropriately prepared documents may be

rejected.

Once application documents are submitted, the information contained therein cannot be

modified, and the documents and examination fee cannot be returned.

(3) Examination Cards will be sent by post around Thursday, January 17, 2019, to applicants

whose application documents are accepted. The applicants must bring their Examination

Card to the examination.

(4) Questions regarding the application procedure must be directed to the Student Support

Office (Graduate Program) of the Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life,

Hiroshima University.

(5) If the date and time of examination change due to the weather condition or other reasons, it

will be notified on the website of Graduate School of Integrated Sciences for Life, Hiroshima
