Important Notes for Applicants and Signatories

1. Applicants will already have successfully completed PHE705. This module be will credited to the PgCHEP via the APEL arrangements for the course and may occasion an additional piece of evidence in order to meet the learning outcomes of the module for which you are seeking exemption.

2. Attendance at all Block sessions is expected. 3. In order to undertake the PgCHEP you must be currently involved in sustained, direct engagement

with learners i.e. teaching or providing learning support for at least 24 hours to HE students at Ulster University over the course of the module.

4. All applications must be endorsed by a Head of School/ Department in which the candidate is based in order to confirm support for the PgCHEP and individual modules e.g. time allocation for attendance, and, where necessary, any travel expenses incurred.

5. Each applicant must have a named member of staff to act as Subject Adviser. The Subject Advisermust be a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy at D2 or above.

APPENDIX: MODULE DETAILS

PHE706 – SUPPORTING RESEARCH PRACTICE (15 credits @Level 7)

Delivery: Semesters 1&2 (long and thin)

This module is designed to enable participants to build upon and acquire new knowledge and skills to write effective research proposals.

The objectives are to:

appreciate the important place of research funding proposals in developing their research profiles as academics;

undertake the necessary preparatory work that is required to writing proposals, including the identification of potential local, national and international sources of funding;

become proficient in formulating clear research questions, a strong rationale and a rigorous design for their proposed study;

appreciate the ethical implications of their study and seek approval from an appropriate ethical committee; respond positively to referees’ comments, and submit the proposal to their potential funders, as

appropriate. reflect on and appreciate the linkages between research and teaching and learning practice

PHE707 – ENHANCING LEARNING & TEACHING AT ULSTER (15 credits @Level 7)

Delivery: Semesters 1&2 (long and thin)

The aim of this module is to allow students to identify, design, manage and evaluate a project that is of benefit to the individual and the organisation and will extend knowledge of the discipline within the Higher Education sector. The module is designed to enable participants:

To enhance their professional practice in a higher education context drawing on a scholarly evidence base to develop a responsive, inclusive and flexible programme of learning;

To critically examine possibilities and constraints within their own professional practice through the exploration of sector to inform their own practice;

To enhance the student experience through the development of knowledge understanding and practice in the sphere of their own professional role.

PHE708 ENHANCING LEARNING & TEACHING @ ULSTER (15 credits @Level 7)

Delivery: Semesters 1&2 (long and thin)

This module will equip participants with a good working knowledge of curriculum development theory and models in a variety of disciplinary contexts. The module will raise awareness of the range of issues to be considered in the process of curriculum development

The module is designed to enable participants:

To enhance their professional practice in a higher education context drawing on a scholarly evidence base to develop a responsive, inclusive and flexible programme of learning.

To critically examine curriculum possibilities and constraints in a range of practical settings through exploration of discipline-specific and generic approaches to teaching and learning to inform own practice

To enhance the student experience by creating a coherent programme of learning, that takes cognisance of student transitions and incorporates the principal elements of curriculum design such as the development of aims, learning outcomes, assessment and evaluation approaches.

To evaluate modular programmes according to the curriculum requirements of all stakeholders in a variety of higher education contexts.
