Comments:

Originally built in Western Australia, this West coaster 72 left the factory powered by the 17.5 Lt cubic capacity Yanmar 6LAHM-STE3 complete with the Nigata MGN80 that is still going strong today. It spent most of its life working as a Tuna Long liner out of WA before it was based out of Mooloolaba in Queensland where it continued to work as a Tuna Long liner. Eventually it was sold to the current owner in Tasmania, modified and put to work as an Abalone Mother Ship. When the re-power was undertaken in July 2014, the original engine had clocked up close to 48,700 hours without a single rebuild. Due to the 6AYM-WST having a very similar horsepower rating as the original engine, the transmission was retained and the front PTO arrangement all mounted up without modifications. Fuel consumption is 12 Lts/hr better for the same cruise speed and the most noticeable improvement is the 6AY's improved torque rise and acceleration.
