robert Gordon university is one of the uK’s ‘new universities’, created in 1992. However it can trace its roots to 1731, when robert Gordon bequeathed his estate to build a residential school for boys. in 1903, the robert Gordon’s technical college was formed to bring together a range of adult education activities in Aberdeen. it was redesignated the robert Gordon’s institute of technology in 1965 and was awarded university status in 1992. it is renowned for its vocational focus and has one of the strongest graduate employment records of any uK university. robert Gordon university has been named, for the third year running, by the times Good university Guide 2010 as the best modern university in the uK.

the university has three faculties: Aberdeen Business school, the faculty of design and technology and the faculty of Health and social care. Aberdeen Business school is one of the leading providers of management and professional education in scotland. the school is business facing and our strong links with industry, commerce and the public sector enable us to ensure that our courses remain practical yet innovative, and offer students the very best learning experiences available.

At Aberdeen Business school we have one of the strongest portfolios of quality courses and we are proud to boast accreditation from a very large number of relevant professional bodies. our staff comprise of professionals from a wide variety of disciplines with both academic and industry experience. We also seek to embed industry experience throughout our courses, through industry visits and guest speakers, through industry-led projects and fieldwork placements.

Aberdeen Business school recently celebrated our 45th anniversary as a business school and we were very proud to celebrate with our high profile industry supporters and sponsors, the fact that the school was recently ranked 15th of the 118 business schools in the united Kingdom by the Guardian newspaper. We seek to

continue to improve our reputation and closeness to industry through both teaching and research. the 2008 research Assessment exercise indicated that Aberdeen Business school had internationally recognised research in 5 subject areas – business and management, accounting and finance, law, politics and international relations and information management, where we were ranked 2nd for research in the united Kingdom. research into entrepreneurship and leadership was also particularly commended in the exercise.

the scott sutherland school of Architecture and the Built environment, Gray’s school of Art and the faculty of Health and social care are also based here.

Our £11million sport

the prs system allows staff to introduce quizzes and polls into the lecture which we believe gives our students a fuller learning experience and helps them to understand their subjects in greater detail. We are also in the process of introducing one touch technology which allows lectures to be recorded live, a feature that will be a huge benefit to our distance learning students.o

law students benefit from our Moot court. the purpose built courtroom is fitted with recording equipment for filming assessments and debates, meaning our students have the chance to put law theory into practice.

our television studio and radio station have been designed to give our communication and media students the opportunity to work with industry-standard equipment, this prior knowledge is invaluable to them when forging a career in the media.
