Apple Introduces the First Low CostMicrocomputer System with a Video Terminaland 8K Bytes of RAM on a Single PC Card.

The Apple Computer. A trulycomplete microcomputer systemon a single PC board. Based onthe MOS Technology 6502 micro-

processor, the Apple also has abuilt-in video terminal and socketsfor 8K bytes of on-board RAMmemory. With the addition of akeyboard and video monitor, you'll have an extremely powerfulcomputer system that can be usedfor anything from developingprograms to playing games orrunning BASIC.

Combining the computer, videoterminal and dynamic memory ona single board has resulted in alarge reduction in chip count,

which means more reliability andlowered cost. Since the Applecomes fully assembled, tested &burned-in and has a completepower supply on-board, initialset-up is essentially "hassle free"and you can be running withinminutes. At $666.66 (including 4Kbytes RAM!) it opens many newpossibilities for users and systemsmanufacturers.

    You Don't Need

    an Expensive Teletype.

Using the built-in video termi-nal and keyboard interface, you

avoid all the expense, noise andmaintenance associated with ateletype. And the Apple videoterminal is six times faster than a

teletype, which means morethroughput and less waiting. TheApple connects directly to a videomonitor (or home TV with an in-expensive RF modulator) and dis-plays 960 easy to read charactersin 24 rows of 40 characters perline with automatic scrolling. Thevideo display section contains itsown IK bytes of memory, so allthe RAM memory is available foruser programs. And the KeyboardInterface lets you use almost anyASCII-encoded keyboard.

The Apple Computer makes itpossible for many people withlimited budgets to step up to avideo terminal as an I/O devicefor their computer.

    No More Switches,No More Lights.

Compared to switches andLED's, a video terminal can dis-play vast amounts of informationsimultaneously. The Apple videoterminal can display the contentsof 192 memory locations at onceon the screen. And the firmware

in PROMS enables you to enter,

display and debug programs (allin hex) from the keyboard, ren-dering a front panel unnecessary. The firmware also allows your

programs to print characters onthe display, and since you'll belooking at letters and numbersinstead of just LED's, the door isopen to all kinds of alphanumericsoftware (i.e., Games and BASIC).

8K Bytes RAM in 16 Chips!

The Apple Computer uses thenew 16-pin 4K dynamic memorychips. They are faster and take 1/4the space and power of even thelow power 2102's (the memorychip that everyone else uses). That means 8K bytes in sixteenchips. It also means no more 28amp power supplies.

The system is fully expandableto 65K via an edge connectorwhich carries both the addressand data busses, power suppliesand all timing signals. All dy-namic memory refreshing forboth on and off-board memory isdone automatically. Also, theApple Computer can be upgradedto use the 16K chips when theybecome available. That's 32Kbytes on-board RAM in 16 IC's

    the equivalent of 256 2102's!

    A Little Cassette BoardThat Works!

Unlike many other cassetteboards on the marketplace, oursworks every time. It plugs directlyinto the upright connector on themain board and stands only 2"tall. And since it is very fast (1500bits per second), you can read orwrite 4K bytes in about 20 seconds. All timing is done in software, which results in crystal-controlled

accuracy and uniformity from unitto unit.

Unlike some other cassette in-terfaces which require an expen-sive tape recorder, the Apple Cas-sette Interface works reliably withalmost any audio-grade cassetterecorder.

    Software:

A tape ofAPPLE BASIC isincluded free with the CassetteInterface. Apple Basic featuresimmediate error messages and

fast execution, and lets you pro-gram in a higher level languageimmediately and without addedcost. Also available now are a dis-assembler and many games, withmany software packages,(including a macro assembler) inthe works. And since our phi-losophy is to provide software forour machines free or at minimalcost, you won't be continuallypaying for access to this growingsoftware library.

The Apple Computer is instock at almost all major com-puter stores. (If your local com-puter store doesn't carry ourproducts, encourage them orwrite us direct).

    NEWS RELEASE

Data Bus, the newest Apple Computer dealership, carries all of

the Apple products and a complete line of support hardware, software,

    and services.

The founders of Data Bus are engineers and computer experts who

realize that computer hobbyists need parts and advice during the

normal hobby hours (evenings and weekends).

Data Bus maintains telephone service and mail order sales

operations from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. Engineers are

available by appointment for instruction, consultation, equipment

demonstrations, and sales during hobby hours.

A specialty of Data Bus is system assembly and integration for

hobbyists who prefer programming to soldering and kit debugging.

An example of this service is a fully integrated computer system

with 8K bytes of RAM,ASR-33 style keyboard, 9" video display andcassette recorder.

The Apple-1 8K byte microcomputer board, cassette interface and

ASCII encoded keyboard are mounted in an attractive attache case.

Cables are provided to connect the high resolution video monitor and

cassette recorder which are furnished to complete the system. The

system also includes monitor and debug programs in RDM, a cassette

tape of Apple BASIC, and a programming manual for the 6502 micro-

processor. The system is $1245.00 complete, or may be purchased

without the attache case for $1095.00 (less than 2 hours of wiring

    required).
