From the Principal Welcome to Week 10 where we thank the large group of parents who volunteered their afternoon last Monday and Tuesday to make up paper Easter hats for every student in Kinder through to Year 2. Our K-2 teachers are so appreciative of your efforts! Students in K-2 will decorate these hats with their older buddy and we will all be able to celebrate their collaborative efforts at our Annual Easter Hat Parade on Friday, 12th April 2019 from 2-3pm. Thanks also go to Mrs Penman in our office who baked absolutely delicious carrot cake and Ferrero Roche cupcakes for our volunteers.School InterviewsThank you to our parents who are making the time to meet with their child’s teacher this week to discuss how their child has settled into their new class and how their learning is progressing. We truly value this opportunity to share information with parents. Please note that due to Mr Earnshaw being on parental leave during this time, he will hold his interviews in Week 11 on Wednesday, 10th April and Thursday, 11th April, 2019.School fundraiser Movie Night - “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”.Our School Ministers are busily organising their first major fundraiser for the year. They are working with Event Cinemas personnel to coordinate a Movie Night to be held next Monday, 8th April at Event Cinemas Campbelltown, commencing at 5:30pm. Our students have chosen “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”. Tickets are $12.00 each for adults and children. Tickets may be purchased at our school office or paid for using our (POP) Parent Online Payments via the Appin School website page at https://appin-p.schools.nsw.gov.au EFTPOS is also available at the office for your convenience. All attending are encouraged to buy a popcorn and drink deal for $10.00 from our Student Ministers that evening rather than at the Candy Bar, as this way proceeds will come to our school. All students must be accompanied by an adult and we will have a cinema dedicated just to Appin Public School that evening. We hope to see lots of families in attendance.ScriptureScripture at our school takes place every Wednesday morning from 9-9:30am. There are specific procedures that every school needs to follow in order to comply with the Department of Education’s policy on Special Religious Education in schools or as it is better known, Scripture in schools. Our office staff go to great lengths to make up roll lists of students who attend our three Scripture options of Catholic, Protestant and Non-Scripture. Our volunteer Scripture teachers rely on these rolls in ordering resources for the students in their groups. It makes things very difficult each Wednesday morning when requests are made for students to change Scripture classes. We ask that parents carefully consider which Scripture class their child will attend for the year and stay with this decision. Please inform office staff in writing before the end of this term if any further Scripture class changes are to be made. Please note that due to lack of available Protestant teachers, there are no Protestant Scripture classes for students in Years 3-6.

Morning Supervision at SchoolWe love the fact that our students are so keen to come to school to engage in their learning and socialise with their friends however, no teacher supervision is provided before 8:30am each school day. “Bright Sparks” operate before and after school care in our school hall and are open from 7am-8:30am. If your child needs to arrive at school a few minutes before 8:30am they must sit quietly on the silver seats in our COLA until the duty teacher comes out at 8:30am.Gymtastics School Sports Program 2019As you are aware, each Thursday of Term 2, students in Years K-6 will have the opportunity to pariticpate in a Gymnastics Sports Program presented by Gymtastic. The program will run each Thursday from 2nd May to 27th June (7 weeks - excluding 9th May - Stage 2 ZooSnooze Camp and 13th June - Area Cross Country). We have been successful in our Sporting Schools Grant and have received $3,400 to subsidise the cost of the program. This will mean that each child will pay $25.00 for the 7 sessions instead of $35.00. Payments can be made in instalments. The total cost should be paid in full by Friday, 5th July 2019. Please return notes to the office immediately, so we can finalise organisation of classes for Gymtastics. Thank you.WalkathonKeep that Walkathon sponsorship money coming in! Every dollar counts and will go towards more IT for our students in classrooms. We continue to thank all the students who have returned their Walkathon sponsorship money already and so far around $4,500 has been raised. Their names were included in our second raffle draw last Friday and then thirteen students’ names were drawn out. These lucky students to win an incentive prize were: Ahmad, Jonathan A, Georgia S, Georgia B, Harmony, Noah A, Mia C, Ava C, Ben M, Saeid, Oliver F, Patrick & Jessica B. Way to go Appin walkers!Easter Hat ParadeThis annual event will take place on Friday, 12th April from 2:00pm-3:00pm. Our school has a lovely tradition of making Easter hats at school. K-2 students make an Easter hat with the help of their older Years 3-6 Buddy.Easter Raffle TicketsEach family has received a book of raffle tickets for our Easter Raffle. If your child is absent it is also alegal requirement that a parent supplies a note explaining the absence from school. This note must be presented to your child’s teacher or the office within 7 days otherwise the absence will remain as “unexplained”. If you believe your child will be absent from school for more than 2 days it is a good idea to phone our office informing them of this. Stewart House DonationsWe are hoping to support Stewart House again this year. Please return the envelope sent home today, clearly marked with your child’s name and class to the office by Friday, 12th April, 2019. Donations over $2.00 will go into a draw for a fantastic Family Holiday, to a destination of your choice, valued at $4,000.Gardening Club DonationsThe Appin Public School Gardening Club are asking for donations of large ceramic pots (please no plastic pots) that are no longer required around your home. The gardening club is looking to plant a variety of different shrubs, natives and succulents and would like to use donated large ceramic pots to assist in getting these plants established (unfortunately, planting into the ground is proving a little difficult). The gardening club would be most grateful for any donations. Thank you!
