Funding Timeline The timeline for the different funding calls and their value is presented in the below figure.

Grant calls under review with their respective values and timescale. The grants leveraged an additional £25,994,124 of funding from a range of sources, this equates to 40% of the original research council funding. The following figure shows the amount of leverage funding for each of the programmes. This is analysed with respect to the sector of the organisation it was gained from (government, industry, charities or professional bodies) and the scale of the organisation (i.e. local, regional, national or international) in the second figure on the next page.

Research council and leverage funding by programme.

Breakdown of leverage funding by sector and scale of organisation.

From the above figure the top ten collaborator organisations, by value, in each of the sectors can be extracted. These are given in the following tables and include the value of funding, the number of projects they collaborated on and the schemes that the organisations were involved with.

Research Area Analysis Following on from the funding analysis, the SUE program grants were analysed by the research topic they addressed. The following set of figures shows the major research topics within the SUE programs. The first shows the analysis of SUE 1 which hoped to focus on specific sectors of the urban environment within four defined clusters (Urban and built environment; Waste, Water and Land Management; Transport; and Metrics, Knowledge Management and Decision Making). The next figure addresses SUE 2 which was intended to build on the earlier work and to take a more holistic view of sustainability across the sectors, and funded projects with themes such as high density living and working; decision support; and health implications. The third pie chart shows the research areas covered by the third and final round of SUE funding which looked to seed and support significant new research directions by tackling the grand challenges associated with integration and connectivity across different spatial and temporal scales and projects exploring the transition from current to future desired infrastructure; adaptive cities; and integration of utilities and interactions and flows in and between cities. The final figure shows the research areas combined over all the SUE calls as well as the ARCC projects as a whole. Please note that the major segments have a consistent colour across the figures. The current status of each of the research areas can be found on the EPSRC website at: http://www.epsrc.ac.uk/research/ourportfolio/researchareas/
