>> SUSS-PIAGET Start-up Challenge 2018 (17-22 September 2018) PIAGET Academy was founded in 2002 with a vision to Create a Better World Through Education. The mission of the schools in PIAGET Academy, namely NHJS (Jakarta) and SNA (Surabaya) focused on holistic education and preparing the students to be values-driven leaders for the future. PIAGET Academy under the leadership of her Chairman of the Board of Governors, Mr William Yiu, entered into a strategic partnership with Singapore’s latest public university, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) to create learning opportunities for the students from both parties. An inaugural six-day SUSS-PIAGET Start-up Challenge marks the first partnership project between the two institutions and this involves students from Singapore and Indonesia working in teams to pitch their business ideas. A unique feature of the camp is a strong focus on social enterprise and business ideas that will uplift communities. A select group of panelist comprising industry leaders, investors and SUSS staff will judge the business plans and investors are at hand to plough funds into their pet projects. Members of the judging panel (as of 12 August 2018) are: Wesley Yiu (Cocoon Capital), Andreas Surya (Kejora Ventures, G-Startup Worldwide), Kaesang Pangarep (SUSS), and Kelvin Tan (Wonderlabs) Part of the camp involves visits to start-ups and market surveys by the participants of the camp. The teams will also be mentored by executives from start-up companies as well as staff from SUSS. The camp will be hosted by PIAGET Academy’s NationalHigh Jakarta School campus on 17-22 September 2018.

>> Awarding of SC Certificates On August 27th 2018, SC conducted the awarding of SC Certificates for Contribution / Participation for the SC Members for Academic Year 2017/2018.

>> SC Training Camp (24-25 Aug 2018) On the 24th and 25th of August 2018, the Student Council held its first training camp of the academic year. After welcoming our 10th batch of student councilors, led by Student Council President Matthew Ryan Asali, the time has come to train and learn the basic skills required in SC. The camp started at 5.15pm on the 24th of August 2018 and ended at 6pm on 25th of August 2018. This training camp allowed the 10th batch of student councilors to acquire skills and knowledge in terms of functioning in their respective roles. This camp helped them to expand their awareness and understanding about what is expected from a Student Council member.

At the beginning of the camp, all 39 student councilors gathered in the SC room, accompanied by Matthew Ryan Asali, to discuss about what has been set on agenda for the councilors. The group of student councilors were informed about the rules and regulations that were expected from the SC mentors. Everyone was then told to gather in their own function groups (marketing, logistics, etc.) and were taught all about their job in marketing, logistics, etc. After learning the basics, each committee was given some time to select the event they wanted to manage such as Fairgrounds, Be Yourself Week, etc. Each committee was then given a few hours to prepare their proposals, letters and power point slides for each of their respective events. On Saturday morning, after having their breakfast, each committee finished their proposals and documents. Later that day, the student councilors gathered in the library to present their finalised proposals to the SC Mentors, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. This training camp was overall very successful since the student councilors learned the skills to execute their roles effectively and were also able to foster bonds among one another. Wishing all the best to the 10th batch of Student Council members! Written by: Nur Fadhilah (JC1P) Nicole Kartanegara (S2I) Edited and proofread by: Laksmana Utama Hadisurya (S4G)

>> Palm View Primary School’s Visit (14-15 August 2018) Having new friends from another country is an amazing experience! It is special because we get to know new people from different cultures and backgrounds. Honing up our relationship skills is another advantage from making new friends. How often can we get new friends or buddies from a different country? On August 14 and 15, 2018, the students of Primary 5 had the privilege to experience the anticipated visit from our new overseas friends. It was through the Immersion Program that NHJS holds annually. The visiting students were from Palm View Primary School in Singapore. There were 20 overseas students who came to NHJS and they were split into the three Primary 5 classes. Both our students and the Palm View students had lots of fun learning together. They also did numerous group projects and activities in art, science, and math, to name a few. Even though the Immersion Program lasted for only a couple days, it was surprising how well and quickly the students became friends. Till we meet again, new friends! >> Student Council Selection Camp 2018 (10 - 11 August 2018)

This school year, the Student Council has come to its tenth year of organizing events for the school, and the community. After a fantastic year with the ninth batch of student councilors, led by Elaine Isabelle Korompis, the time has come to select a new group of student councilors, to be led by our elected Student Council president, Ryan Asali. This year, we received around sixty applications from students from Secondary two to Junior College one. Out of these sixty applicants, only thirty nine slots were available to be filled by these applicants. These sixty applicants were to be narrowed down in this year’s selection camp, from Friday (10th of August) to Saturday (11th August).

Our selection camp this year started on 4pm on Friday, on August 10 2018. All sixty applicants gathered in the SC room at this time, accompanied by Ryan Asali and the outgoing governing committee. The applicants were split into four committees (eight groups), of around 15 people in each committee. The four committees were instructed to design a game for other committees to play and test out. Committee A planned games for Committee B, C for D and vice versa. All four committees were given a couple of hours to plan and dry run their games on both days, as well as to divide their committee members and assign them to different jobs. All four games were played on the morning of the Saturday, with half an hour allocated to each game. All games were very well planned and executed! Following the games, interviews for each group were conducted, held by SC mentors, deans and the outgoing governing committee. After several hours of waiting, all applicants were finally called into the board room group by group, for the announcement of the new, tenth batch of the Student Council! This was the moment everyone was waiting for; everyone was very nervous and anxious.

This selection camp was very successful, and a strong and capable batch of student councilors was formed. The applicants learned the skills needed to properly execute events for SC, having developed their organisational, teamwork, and leadership skills. All the best to the tenth batch of the Student Council! “Remember, teamwork makes the dream work.”
