Knowing your spiritual gis can actually help you know God’s will for your life. If you are wondering,
“What do you want me to do Lord?” You might learn more about the Lord’s call if you first discern
your charisms. Do charisms ever change? Yes. They some(mes change depending upon your state in
life, your voca(on, your job, or even your ministry? You might be in pastoral leadership in your parish
and the Lord may begin to prompt you to pray for healing with others. Charisms are given to us at the
Lord’s discre(on. This means what we learn today as we complete the charism inventory might be
somewhat different a year from now.
Knowing your spiritual gis will also help you to know what God has not called you to do. As you reflect on your inventory
results, there will be some charisms that are definitely not your charisms. Some(mes it can be a relief to say to someone, “I
don’t think I am called to that, I know this because it is not my charism.” At other (mes, God will give you the grace to operate
in a charism that is not a typical charism for you. If you are working outside of your natural charism, but you are obedient to
the Spirit’s promp(ng, God will give you the grace you need for the task. You might not even enjoy doing the task, but it will
bear fruit because you are obedient.
Knowing your spiritual gis, will help you to know how the Spirit is using you as a tool for the new evangeliza(on. Your
charisms are your tools for the new evangeliza(on in your parish. For example, if hospitality is your charism, you will bring
Christ to others when you operate in this gi. Your welcoming disposi(on is a way that others see Christ. Not everyone has
this charism for sure. The same is true of helps, intercession, discernment, pastoring, and all of the charisms.
Knowing your spiritual gi builds unity. When each person operates in their charisms, God is able to work migh(ly in a faith
community. Every charism is present in the body and every charism is necessary and vitally important to the life of the parish.

Fr. Mark’s Message Renee Marazon Fr. Mark’s Message Renee Marazon Fr. Mark’s Message Renee Marazon Fr. Mark’s Message Renee Marazon My dear friends,
The good (mes con(nue at the Catholic
Charisma(c Center. What a privilege to be
part of the Lord's wonderful work! Having an
a:tude of gra(tude is a central part of my
spirituality, and it comes easy here in Texas
serving at one of the most awesome church-
es in this country!
Let me share with you some of the things
that we are looking forward to in 2013.
Fr. Robert Barron's Catholicism Series has
been a big hit throughout the English speaking world. Every year I
like to recommend a "Book of the Year," but this year I would rec-
ommend that as many of us as possible try to watch Fr. Barron's 10
part documentary series on the Catholic Faith. Some of our minis-
tries have been offering the series here at the Center.
Fr. ScoB McCaig, the General Superior of the Companions of the
Cross has shown interest in having the Companions of the Cross
partner with the Catholic Charisma(c Center to offer a One Year
Cer(ficate in faith forma(on and also three year diploma in faith
forma(on. We would incorporate much of the exis(ng forma(on
already happening at the Center into the new forma(on pro-
gram. We could begin as early as 2014 to offer these pro-
grams. Keep posted!
Many of our youth will be going to a Steubenville conference this
summer. We are very impressed with the wonderful work our youth
leaders are doing with our young people. We will also have our
"Arise" youth conference on June 8th, 2013.
2013 will be filled with many wonderful day retreats. They are listed
in our Treasure in Heaven prayer guide and on our web site. The
most remarkable retreat will be a retreat on St. Padre Pio preached
by a priest named: Fr. Pio Maria - is that cool or what?!
I've been leading a number of Bible Cell Groups (BCG) and have it as
a goal to mentor others who would like to lead a BCG. My goal is to
become a Centurion - to work with 10 BCG leaders who have groups
of ten each. 10X10 = 100 - a Centurion was someone in the Roman
military who was over 100. Maybe one day I'll have a whole legion
of people studying the Bible!
We are already lining up some awesome speakers for 2014!!! Can't
say anything yet - it's a surprise!!!!
The Lord con(nues to heal today as He did 2000 years ago. Last
Thursday at the healing Mass a woman shared that her cancer was
gone aer being prayed for on a Thursday night. We con(nue to
hear many wonderful tes(monies of the Lord's healing power.
And last but not least - God is being praised! We are con(nuing to
press in with praise and worship knowing that God dwells in the
praises of His people. This is our most important ministry. If we
worship God, many will be drawn to the presence of God in this
place.
Please join us in deligh(ng in our Holy and Awesome God.
God bless you in 2013!
In His Service,
When the people discover their
own gis and learn about the
gis of others they appreciate
and value the gis they see in
others and they welcome them
as their own. In contrast, if a
charism is claimed by a person
because they want it and not
because it is God’s gi to them,
it is not a charism. Discernment
is always necessary, by the per-
son and by the community and the final word is always
in the hands of the pastor. It is never appropriate to
affirm a charism in someone who says, “I want to be a
prophet. I want to be a healer. I want to operate in
word of knowledge or I want to pastor small
groups.” These disposi(ons actually cause disunity in
a community. Charisms are not to be forced on a com-
munity. They are not to be owned by the per-
son. They are not to be lorded over someone. Finally,
if a charism is not embraced and used in love, it ceases
to be a charism.
What then is the difference between a talent or skill
and a charism? Those who have talent, such as play-
ing a musical instrument, can lead others in worship or
can entertain others with profane or sexual lyrics in
their music. The former is a charism because it is used
to draw others closer to the Lord. The laBer is a talent
or a skill because it does not bring others closer to
God. It should be noted that just because someone
has a talent in a parish, does not mean that talent is
their charism. Each person, with a talent, would have
to place their talent at the service of Christ for the
building up of His church in order for the talent to be a
charism.
Finally, it is cri(cal that once we have discerned our
charisms, we must place them at the service of the
Church. It then becomes the responsibility of our pas-
tors and/or assigned pastoral leaders to call us to min-
ister in our charisms. For this reason, it is impera(ve
that our pastors and pastoral leaders discern their own
charisms so that they are adequately equipped to pas-
tor those of their people.

TUESDAY FORMATION & BIBLE STUDIES
PAGE 4 JANUARY 2013 Divine Intimacy... The Call to Holiness
We had a successful four months in 2012 whereby the aAendees began one of the different ways in listening to God
through a simple recording dialogue method. We started with our iden>ty followed by a descrip>on of what
‘forma>on’ means. We differen>ated between the natural and spiritual realms. We learned the Lec>o Divina Meth-
od in a very prac>cal way. We exercised the necessary founda>ons of silence, solitude, prayer and penance. In addi-
>on, we discussed the discernment of the three main voices we usually hear. We discussed fears and woundedness
that affect our rela>onship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
DIVINE INTIMACY GOES INTERNATIONAL: Included in this >me (2012), was the opportunity to spread the Divine In>-
macy Forma>on in Spanish to an overseas country, Honduras. The hostess of the retreat was the Consul of Poland’s
wife. (Poland, JP II’s country of birth, one of the Popes who spoke on the New Evangeliza>on and going deeper “cast
into the deep”). No wonder… These people were so hungry to go deeper in in>macy with God that it was a great
pleasure to serve them. They spoke of having a one week retreat during this coming year. We are ready!
Some witnesses: This formaon has taken me deeper with Christ. Who would think you can hear Him speak so clear-
ly while recording and even receive healing! If you feel Him tugging at your heart to go deeper, respond to His invita-
on He is eagerly awaing your response! Dianne G.
Norma, I would say that being a part of this formaon has helped me connect with God in a deeper way on a whole
different level. It helped me to discover who I am as the Lord reveals our true selves to us. I have tried doing this on
my own and trying to get to this secret place where He and I can connect like this, but it is dangerous to do this with-
out direcon and discernment. I feel another major conversion taking place and my love for Jesus has grown so
much. I would recommend this to anyone. Nora M.
Formaon has helped me to have hands on experience on Leco Divina and helped me be more disciplined with pray-
er and meditang on scripture. I look forward to growing more in inmacy with our Almighty God. Thank you Norma
for sharing your passion for contemplaon. Anonymous.
Divine Inmacy class has been helping me to recognize more clearly the voice of the Lord; also I had learned the steps
to follow a deep conversaon with the Almighty. Now when I am struggling with something I run to him with more
confidence than before knowing that he is really listening. I am blessed to be part of this class . Reyna C.
It was evident from the first session of forma>on that God is wai>ng to do awesome things for those who come to-
gether to seek Him and aMer a few weeks of forma>on I learned to not keep God wai>ng and to keep Him ac>vely
present in my life. Best class ever!
I learned how God desires for me to sit with Him and establish a deeper, more inmate relaonship. It is such a beau-
ful and peaceful experience!
During 2013, we will con>nue to go deeper by covering understanding of all forms of prayer including Theresa of Avila
‘Seven Mansions of the interior castle’, Intercessory Prayer with Spiritual Warfare, St. Igna>us of Loyola Spiritual Ex-
ercises, The Seven Capital sins, St. John of the Cross Dark Nights, Discernment of God’s voice in a prac>cal and direct
way, etc. etc. If necessary, we will go through 2014 with these prac>ces.
“Divine In>macy” is an ac>ve contempla>ve forma>on that responds to the urg-
ings of the Popes to go deeper, to commune in in>macy with God, to listen, to
receive in the silence and to respond, for the proclama>on of the Gospel in a
world that is distancing itself from God. The forma>on’s goal is to build the interi-
or life. The Popes have called this deeper step: “New Evangeliza>on”. Forma>on
is an absolute necessity because true evangeliza>on comes from one’s own in>-
macy with God; the more one knows Christ, the beAer one can speak of Him. Be-
ing fully alive is to know one self and to know God, in in>macy.
Inner Healing Prayer Ministry
PAGE 5 JANUARY 2013
Elijah House schools are founded on principles reflected in Malachi 4:5-6 and Matthew 17:11. We call God’s people to
restore the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, and to restore all things.
How do our schools accomplish this? We train students in the biblical principles and tools for the healing and transfor-
mation of the inner man that God has given our Elijah House teachers. Students learn to trace bad fruit in people’s lives
to unforgiveness, bitterness, negative life decisions and other strongholds in the heart. They learn to listen to the Holy
Spirit and follow His lead as they minister. The ultimate goal is not only to transform individuals, but also to enable them
to reconcile with others as well as with God.
Elijah House – Everyday Saints in the Making
When I first arrived at the Catholic Charisma(c Center and met everyone, I was impressed by their outlook on life and
the way they handled the struggles of everyday living according to the Gospel and God’s promises. It was apparent that
there were many levels of spiritual maturity at the Center. I felt accepted even though I was not at the same level as
some. Every individual received the same respect for being exactly where they were in their Faith Walk.
Certain individuals really did shine. They stood out because they gave sage advice and encouragement, shared freely
from their own walk with Our Lord and seemed to navigate with gentleness, trust and love. I learned that the one thing
they all had in common was having taken the Elijah House course. Some of these brothers and sisters had taken it as
many as three (mes. I asked myself, “why would so and so have needed it three (mes? They are so great, why did they
make such a huge commitment and work so hard?”
I know the answer, now. It is because we need it!
They stood out because they were wonderful, loving, joyful people due to receiving healing for the wounds of their
hearts. They no longer responded to struggles with people, places and things in a sinful way. They had been set free
from the chains that bound them to hard hearts. They were able to receive and give what they received to others.
This is what I would like everyone to know about what Elijah House can do for you. It is all about FREEDOM. Remember
the song, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is FREEDOM”? And we always shout the word FREEDOM when we sing
it. Well, I am here to tell you that one of the ways to gain FREEDOM is to aBend the Elijah House course provided by the
Center.
I am taking it again in 2013. I have a long way to go, no doubt. But a huge change has taken place in the way I respond to
family, friends, co-workers, employers and my children. I have less emo(onal pain and have been made new in so many
liBle and big ways. I am much happier even though what is going on around me is much the same. It is amazing! The
number of kisses and golden nuggets from Our Lord increases daily. The inner healing and freedom have a snow ball
effect, now, and I want more. I want to be on the mountain top. I am beBer equipped to serve in our community and to
spread love in all places I venture in a day.
My personal prayer for all of you is that you will give yourself the present and relief you deserve by taking the Elijah
House course. Don’t wait un(l a tragedy or a loss occurs in your life to look for help. Start now and be beBer equipped
to handle what life brings to you in the future.
If you’ve heard Father Stan Fortuna say, “Get over yourself!!!” and have wondered how you can go about accomplishing
that … just give Elijah House a chance.
I encourage you to seek healing and freedom. I want you to have what I have and more. If you have any ques(ons
about what this forma(on will provide, please stop me and ask me. I know you have heard the saying, “Less is more”.
Beloved, less pain and more freedom is what Our Lord wants for you without limita(on. SubmiBed By: Kathy Ricks

A Parish Way of Life for the New Millennuim
Transforming Parishes Into Schools of Prayer, Holiness, Communion, and Evangeliza>on
The GiMed and Called ministry is NOT a new program. It is God's plan for the Church's " modus vivendi (way of life),
that con>nually awakens, calls forth, coaches, and encourages each bap>zed person to develop his or her giMs for
ministry, ensuring that each person is needed and each is instrumental in building up the Church --- the Body of
Christ.
THE NEW EVANELIZATION
"It is like a mustard seed that, when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth. But once it
is sown, it springs up and becomes the largest of plants and puts forth large branches, so that the birds of the sky
can dwell in its shade." Mk 4: 31-32
Becoming a Servant Leader
Leadership through service is how Jesus modeled and taught discipleship among His closest friends. True servant
leadership begins by submiRng to Jesus and obediently following His teaching and lifestyle as a leader. Leadership
in the Kingdom of God is different from leadership in the world. Life under the lordship of Christ has different values
than life under the lordship of the corporate world.
Therefore kingdom leaders are people who lead like Jesus. They act differently than leaders trained by the world. King-
dom leaders are servant leaders because they follow Jesus, who " did not come to be served, but to serve" Mark 10:45
Servant Leaders understand that leadership is a team sport. The first characteristic of a team is the sense that, “We
are in this together.” Team members sense that each person belongs, and that each person is respected by the other
team members. Team ministry starts when those on the team sense they are together for a reason greater themselves.

An ADtude Like Jesus
Your aDtude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who, being the very nature of God, did not consider equality
with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in
human likeness.
Servant Leaders SERVE God and EQUIP Others for TEAM Ministry.
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the
equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. Ephesians 4:11-12
SERVE in TEAM: Calling the Twelve to Him, He sent them out two by two and gave them authority over evil spirits.

"A community united in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit through prayer for the enrichment of faith and service to others.” Ephesians 4 :4-6 "There is one Body, one Spirit, just as one hope is the goal of your calling by God. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of all, over all, through all and within all."
Young adults 18 yrs + are welcome! Contact us at : [email protected] ONE can be found on facebook.
Through God’s blessing, the young adult ministry of ONE is continuing to devel-op. We are growing in our Catholic faith as well as in the service to others.
Over the past few months, ONE member’s have had the oppor-tunity to minister to people on the streets, worship with other young adults of the archdiocese at Café Catholica, come together in prayer for our nation through The Response, and also share our talents in drama as we performed a modern day skit on the para-ble of the Prodigal Son.
Many of our members can also be found serving the church through their involvement in other ministries around the Charis-matic Center such as Breaking Bread Homeless Ministries, Faith in to the Fire retreat team, C.R.O.S.S. Ministries, Commentating, and the Usher ministry. We have been able to grow together as a group, as well as individually. Where God is leading us to go, we are obeying and following HIM.
Each month we continue to set aside one evening to come together in Praise and Worship. Matthew 18:20 says, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” The presence of God can certainly be felt with us during these gatherings. Through song, prayer, and the sharing of testi-monies, our union as a family of God strengthens. By: Alison Weber

D.I.G. YOUTH MINISTRY A.I.M. ADULT FORMATION
1 Timothy 4:12
What is D.I.G.?:
D.I.G. is... Short for Disciples in Growth. We are a youth min-istry open to all teens ages 13-18. We gather here, at the Catholic Charismatic Center, every Wednes-day from 7-9 p.m. in the Upper Room. Our goal is to minister to teens and help them understand the Catholic faith and bible scripture. In a world that does not want God, teens come and have a sense of community. They get away from the everyday strug-gles of life and feel accepted. They get "fed" and un-derstand why it is important to be "God focused" and how to keep Him in their daily lives. Christian Youth Ministry is more important today than having teens participating in after school activi-ties or things that do not have any meaning. We need to keep our teens more focused on the things of Christ in order for them to grow spiritually and make them more able to handle situations that come their way. D.I.G. offers so much more than a night of bible study. We have life learning lessons which are tied to scripture. Our teens are learning how to be compassionate. They frequently go out and feed the homeless, visit nursing homes, volunteer with church functions and help out at mass. We also have fun outings and picnics with the teens and family outings as well. We offer our youth a sense of belong-ing. And, oh yes, we also offer tutoring because we know grades are important too! Please drop by and see what all we have to offer.
Our group meets Wednesdays from 7-9pm in the
Catholic Charisma>c Center’s Upper
Room. Teens 13 and up are welcome!
