Apocalypse Please!

Hello everyone and welcome to Apocalypse Please! - my second attempt at an

Apocalypse Challenge by Pinstar.

My first challenge was the Peters’ Apocalypse back in 2006 when the ruleswere first written and the newest EP was Open for Business. Now, a lot of EPshave come out since then (including a whole new version of the sims!), butPinstar hasn’t added new official rules since Seasons. That’s why I stopped

with my last challenge, I had the new EPs but no rules to follow, and I waswaiting for Pinstar to update. Many people over at the boolprop forum havecome up with rules for the newer EPs but now I don’t have access to thePeters anymore. So I’ve decided to re-try my hand at one of my favoritechallenges, and since right now I only have the base game, Uni and Seasonsinstalled I’m just going to follow the original rules. I caved and ended up

installing all of the Eps later, and you'll notice from all of the snow.

With that all out of the way, let me introduce you to our founderess...

Mara loves sims with black hair, and facial hair but dislikes cologne. Herlifetime want is to max all 7 skills, which is lucky for me, hopefully we can dothat while she’s still in college! She is a Freshman at LFT and currently lives ina large dorm where she’ll be forced to meet people. Being a shy sim and living

on her own I fear she’d become a hermit.



The day Mara arrives at her new dorm at LFT she wastes no time and digs intoher homework. She also decides early on to major in physics since she dreamsof being a doctor.



Since Mara’s so shy, she decides to push herself to meet new people. With herterm paper out of the way, she wanders the dorm looking to meet peoplewhen she runs into this lovely specimen of a man. (This handsome guy wasmade by thealicecat/xie_belle, he’s one of her periodic table sims,Magnesium)



Mara gathers up her nerves and decides that now is as good of a time as everto introduce herself.“H-hello, I’m Mara, fellow freshman, figured I’d introduce myself to my dorm-mates.”“Mara? I’m Gerard, nice to meet you,” he said, looking Mara up and down.Obliviously shy Mara completely misses the gazing compliment.



“So Mara, where ya from?”

“I, uh, a few doors down thatway…”

“Hah, no, I meant, where didyou move here from?”

“Oh… right…” My voice wascoming out as a whispered

stutter… this guy was reallymaking my stomach turn-in agood way*

“Tiguam Falls, about 30 minutes from here”

“Hm, never been there, maybe I’ll make it there some day. I’m from Darkhammyself, a nice beachy town, a lot different than here… well, I suppose there’s tons ofsand here too, but I miss the water.”The two of us continued to get acquainted. And despite my fear of letting people in,it was quite easy to talk to Gerry.

*Mara and Gerard have 2 bolts of chemistry.



All that talk worked up quite anappetite, so Gerry and I headed to

the caf and found ourselves somemacaroni and some more company.Before we knew it the whole tablewas involved in our conversation.

“So, Mara, maybe later we can go

out?”

“Oh yeah, we could go catch amovie! Do you guys want to come outtoo?”

Instantly Gerry cleared his throat andshifted awkwardly in his seat.Meanwhile our new acquaintancesexchanged knowing glancing. Whatwas his problem? What justhappened?



I must have said something wrong because the next thing I knew Gerry hadmoved out of the dorm and this guy moved in… was he asking me on a date andI blew it?



I tried not to dwell on it for too long and tried to make some female friends. I

didn’t want to say the wrong thing again, and ruin another chance with such ahandsome man. As much as I hated to admit it, I found myself missing Gerry.

And looking around the dorm, I didn't even want to talk to any of the othermen. None of them held a candle to Gerry... I'm such an idiot!



The rest of the year I focused on school, and tried to put Gerry to the back ofmy mind. I was here to learn, not to fool around with some guys. My hard workdid pay off, I'm on the Dean's List for all of my courses. I wanted to continue onthis way, burying myself in homework, papers, girls' night in, but, my heart hadother ideas.



Before I could fully move on, I needed to know where I had gone wrong with

Gerry. So I decided to invite him over. It couldn’t hurt.

The phone call was a bit awkward, so I was a bit surprised when Gerry actuallyshowed up at my dorm. I was a bit hesitant at first, but Gerry's huge smiledismissed my fears.



“I am so glad you came over Gerry, I was a bit worried you’d completelywritten me off – you know that I had said something stupid, judged … us …wrong,” I tried to say “us” quietly but Gerry picked right up on it.

“Us?” Now he was smiling, “Now that’s more of what I’d like to hear. I guess Imisunderstood you too…”



“Mara, I was hoping that this invitation was what I've been waiting for. I reallyliked you Mara and I was hurt when you invited other people to what I thoughtwas going to be a date. I was so embarrassed, I took off.”“Gerry – that wasn’t it at all! I just thought that you wanted to be friends withme, I never thought a man as attracti—I mean I never thought you’d beinterested in me.”“How could I not be interested in a smart….” Gerry reached out and grabbedmy hand...



“beautiful, unique woman who seemed interested in me.” He said in betweenkisses up my arm.

I couldn’t believe my ears, but my heart was beating so hard it felt like it wasgoing to beat out of my chest! I had to slow this down, I wasn’t ready for thisat all…“Gerry, would you like to come inside for some dinner? I’m starved.”“As long as you don't invite other men out with us too,” Gerry said laughing.“I promise, just you, now let's go eat,” I responded beaming back at Gerry. I

knew he wasn't going to let our “group date” go. :)



As we sat down to eat, I was reminded why I had been so fond of Gerry. Not

only was he sexy and made my heart pound, he and I shared the same theoriesabout our planet and the changing climate. We both hated how much pollutionwe were subjected to, and both wanted to have some alternative options forpower and electricity. We both knew that we couldn’t continue to live this waywithout consequences! And this belief could really set you apart from people.Not everyone is willing to admit that what we’re doing to the planet is wrong,

and that we can and should change our lives.



Gerry and I ended up talking into the night, and apparently I fell asleep on the

couch. I woke up in the morning in my bed, and went out and found Gerry stillthere. Gerry had helped me into my bedroom, and into my bed. I wasoverwhelmed by his kindness after he told me, and I repaid him for his chivalry.

Since I fell asleep early last night, we've decided to go out on the town tonightfor another date.



We made our way out to a café which was having an open mic night, so we

decided to play together, why not? It went pretty well, we didn't sound halfbad. We even got some tips, so it's not just in our minds that we wereawesome. ;)



After a while, Gerry told me he needed to head back to his dorm to get somesleep. He had an exam in the morning. I didn’t leave just yet myself, now that Iwas out and about, I was having fun and didn’t want to end the night.



I decided to settle myself before heading home with the bubbler. It was Jess,one of my dorm mates suggestion. He and I had a bit too much fun that night,but I think it was worth it. I don't cut loose often enough.



When I got home, I was having a hard time concentrating on my work. Idecided to call it an early night and head to bed.

I knew that next morning I would call Gerry, and then let nature take itscourse. I couldn’t move on without … well, you’ll see.



I kept to my plan and phoned Gerry up in the morning, and of course he cameright over. I was certain that Gerry could hear my heart thumping as I musteredup my courage.



“Gerry, you and I are destined for the same future. We share so many ideas and

passions about life, and I don’t know anyone else that makes me feel the wayyou do.” I took a huge breath and continued before he could stop me. Now itwas time, I was down on one knee looking up at Gerry, he must know now. “Yousee, I can’t imagine my life without you, and I know that you feel the sameway. You help me enjoy life and I feel so comfortable around you that I’m ableto be myself… I guess what I’m trying to say is – Gerry will you marry me?”

“Of course I will! Mara, I love you so much.”



“No need to worry because I didn’t say no, and would never have said no to

you my dear.”

I felt a huge weight lift off of me, I knew I had done the right thing. Picked theright man to spend the rest of my life with.

All of a sudden Gerry had pulledme in close, his heart wasbeating as fast as mine.

“Gerry, I am so happy right now.I don’t know what I would’vedone if you’d have said no,” thisclose to him I could smell hishair, his neck, him… he’s just sowonderful.



But, just like every other college student, Gerry had to leave and go study. Ilove that he’s so dedicated, but sometimes I just want him all to myself. I hada blast sharing the news of my successful proposal to Gerry with all of myfriends. I can tell my girl friends were ecstatic while my male friends were sortof somber.



I finished up dinner and was on my way to my bedroom when a strange manaccosted me.



“Hey, what are you doing? Do I know you from somewhere?”

“Mara, you can’t talk your way out of this. You really don’t know what I’mdoing?”

“What, wh-why would I? How could I? I don't even know you!”



“Good, come with me then,” Now this stranger had my arms and was

handcuffing me.

“If it’s so good then why am I in cuffs?”

“I have something you need to see, and I don’t want you trying to get away…”



When I got out of the car, some of my roommates and friends were there.

“Mara! We’ve been waiting so long for you to get here. I never thought this daywould come, but here you are… at the LFT Society… somewhat of a secretreally”



A secret society… I was full of questions, and got tons of answers. It seems I’mhere because this society believes, as I do, that we’re really in for it, that ourpolluting and selfishness is coming close to an end. Of course I then asked howit was going to end, and they told me they weren’t quite sure, but theythought that we were in for a big surprise… maybe even a collapse of our wholepolitical, sociological, and even religious structures.



The fun didn’t stop there; they had a lot of mysterious objects for me tosample. One was a fingerprint scanner that the top detectives used. I wassurprised at how long I was entertained by the silly thing. I spent a goodportion of my night on it until I exhausted myself.



I went home feeling anxious, enlightened and …well… guarded maybe. With all

of this talk about the break down of our lives, I really needed someone to bethere for me. They spoke of a “safe house” for the future that I could seekrefuge in… but it was my mind that needed refuge right now. It was too muchto take in. Even for someone like me who had been thinking about these issueson my own.



I got out of bed, I couldn’t sleep so what was the use? I phoned Gerry, almost inhysteria… of course I couldn’t tell him anything about the LFT Society’stheories, he wasn’t part of the society, so I must’ve sounded simply mad.



I tried to get the doom and gloom out of my mind. Nothing had happened;maybe we were all just overreacting?

---*Mara is working hard on her skills, and tops creativity.



I think my hysterical phone call prompted Gerry to move back to my dorm. Hewas worried about me, but I was just so happy to see him!



It’s been a few days since Gerry’s moved in, and I haven’t really been able toconvince him that I’m okay. He’s intent on getting me to relax, so he suggestedthat I go out and treat myself to some pampering.

So I'm going to go shopping, treat myself to a hair treatment, and maybe buysome new clothes.



So I appeased him, I went to the salon and told them to go nuts. While it’s notsomething I would’ve considered for myself, so long, at least my hair was outof my face finally. Seemed practical enough.



Oh, and did I mention that Gerry loved my new look so much that he decidedto go get his hair cut too? Yeah, he told me, “I'm just being more practicaltoo.” Obviously a jab at my reaction to my hair. I can't help it that I'm moreconcerned about books than my looks.



I've been reading a lot of cook books lately too. Gerry and I won't have a cook

to make us mac n cheese whenever we want it out in the real world. I can'twait to try out some of these recipes!---*Mara maxed her cooking skill.



But you can't go through life without fun and love, trust me, Gerry and I spendas much time together cuddling as I we both do studying.



The next thing I knew I wasfinished with college. I graduatedwith a degree in Physics with full

honors.

Life is sort of surreal right now.Like I know that things won't staythis way for much longer... thatmaybe this is the calm.



I tried shaking it off with some meditation and yoga. This is one hobby I don'tknow what I'd do without.



One thing that never gets old is challenging roomies to a game of chess.

Although I have to find some new people to play, I've learned all of my roomiesmoves.*---*Mara keeps maxing those skills which makes us both happy, her being aknowledge and me because she's more than halfway to completing her LTW.



Time has passed and fortunately Gerry has gotten over asking me if I'm okayevery 10 minutes. Although I must say, I think he is being overly affectionate toreassure me. I can't complain though!



I've been on a roll lately,everything just seems clearer

to me. I feel more in tune withmy body and mind than I'veever been before.

---Mara has maxed her athleticskill, charisma, cleaning and mechanical skills reaching her LTW of maxing all skills. This

will be really helpful once sheleaves college!



The more we talked about it, the more I talked him into moving to

Hiddenbrook, the town where the LFT society had its safe house... just in case.Well, and of course I didn't tell him the real reason for wanting to move there.

By the morning of my move, Gerry and I had decided that we would move toHiddenbrook. He would join me as soon as he finished up with his exams thenext semester.



The morning came too quickly. Ihugged Gerry tight, and weexchanged good byes and good

luck and we'll see each othersoon, and we miss each otheralready. You know, the usualgood bye scenario.



The truth is I do sort of miss Gerry already. And the world feels a little bitcolder than it had in his arms. I think I'm just being a bit melodramatic.



As I hopped into the taxi, I couldn't help but think that my life was about to

change. And not in the normal transition into adult life from college way. Away that would not just affect me, but everyone. I did feel more settledknowing that Gerry did decide to move to Hiddenbrook in the end, and at leastI was headed for a safe place even if there's no immediate danger at hand.

That concludes the first chapter ofApocalypse Please!
