Preface We are very glad to present newsletter of A.P.M.W.S Rainbow Home from June 2016 to November 2016 This Document is the outcome of our Efforts with girl children at A.P.M.W.S organization. The report includes General Status of Children, Activities, Rainbow Team, Visits and Challenges etc. General Status of Children There are 106 children in our APMWS Rainbow Home. We have children between 5 years to 20 years of age. Also, we have children from all religions with different family backgrounds like without parent, single parent, etc. From the month of June to November 2016 we have admitted new children. General Status of Children

þ      There are 106 children in our APMWS Rainbow Home. We have children between 5 years to 20 years of age.

Also, we have children from all religions with different family backgrounds like without parent, single parent, etc. From the month of June to November 2016 we have admitted new children.

Activities

Nutrition  Care:  Menu changes during this period:

We have asked the children about their wish for food they have decided to have leafy vegetables fruits milk, non veg.

We added some sweet items in snacks like, Pasta sweet, semolina sweet, bambino sweet, and also we added Carrot, Cucumber, sprouts in snacks. At breakfast children are having semolina roasted, Tomato rice, Zeera Rice, chapattis with leafy

vegetables, daily milk and twice a week eggs.

Malnutrition Children Food: §   We have 07 Malnutrition children. §   Twice in a week we give boiled eggs, jaggery and peanuts, daily milk with boost,

Sprouts etc. §   We also give Fruits like Papaya and Pine Apple which contain Magnesium and

vitamins.  

Training provided to house mother on hygienic, tasty and nutritious food: An Induction was given by A.P.M.W.S Team Members to House mothers. Training on hygiene and Nutritious food by our Home Management Co-Coordinator Rama Rani.

Food committee achievement:  

 

Discipline is seen while having food. Most of the students are now interested to drink milk as compare to last 6 months, after this committee member’s effort.  

 Health: Total Number of sick children and treatment:

 Total 4 sick children suffered with Thyroid, Chicken pox and Jaundice.

Two children suffered with Chicken Pox and we applied homemade remedies and now the children are fit.

For thyroid girl namely Tasleem, we have sent for diagnose and reports are available, Doctors advised for operation. Her treatment is going on, which we are following and taking extra care of the girl. It is challenge

for us that in the mid of her X class, she should be operated, which may cause

disturbance for her crucial public exam. For jaundice we have consulted a doctor and doctor advised to give more iron-rich food, less oil food which we followed.

Health Checkups:

We have done 2 times health checkups one is in August and second is in November 1nd week once in quarter.

5 Number of children moved from underweight to normal weight.    

Health Camps ‘’GOOD HEALTH AND GOOD SENSE ARE TWO OF LIFE’S GREATEST BLESSINGS ‘’so it is our first priority to focus on health in our home. We are concentrating on personalized health care of all children. Two Health camps were conducted in our home one is on 9th of September and the second is on 13th November 2016.

Ø  First one on Arogya shri has conducted a health camp in that all general checkups were done.

Ø   Second camp by IVI Organization provided optical to our children.    

Changes in children Personal Hygiene:

•   Our team and health worker had conducted awareness classes on personal hygiene for older girls and regularly we explain how to keep them clean.

•   Trained in keeping their belongings and surroundings clean.

•   Now children are able to take care of their personal hygiene.

Training for Children/staff on health and the lessons learnt:

Dr .Ramesh, who is a Homeopathy doctor in Gandhi Hospital Sec-Bad, gave valuable message to our children on health and hygiene. And distributed some books related to health and hygiene. Staff and children learnt a lot on this health sessions.  

Education: 106 children studying at different levels.

We have 06 girls in bridge Course. Anjum sultana has been promoted to class XI.

Santoshi Ashwitha will continue in special school this year also. Two volunteers are coming for teaching; they are Miss Rita for Languages and Mr. Shaker for Math’s, Science & Computers.

We changed the timings for studies i.e. 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., previously it was 6 p.m. to

7-30 p.m. And In teaching, we kept separate classes to 1st to 5th and 6th to 9th

classes to facilitate two different volunteers.

Achievement:  Chilkala Jyothi who is pursuing B.Tech Final Year has passed

out her 3rd year II semester with good marks.

Life Skills:  From October 17th to 21st Life skill training was conducted in

St Ann’s Tarnaka for Staff and the topics were Destination Tomorrow, Relation

and Sex, Being Proactive in life. After the training, the Staff conducted same

sessions with children. Children got self-confidence, and became confident and

acquired some positive changes became confident.  

Extracurricular Activities:

Arts: ‘’Every Child is an artist. The problem is how

to remain an artist once we grow up’

Children participated in Drawing, Essay Writing,

Painting, in Adhaya Memorial School, held in Bible

House. Approximately 30 Children participated in Arts.

Our Curtural Club Incharge Miss Madhavi taking Dancing Classes for children.

Children mind is devoloping to create their own talent. Children are now

participating without hesitation in any activity.

CRAFT

 We have organised paper craft,waste material,,pot

decoration, college work,etc.and in this 35 children

participated in our home.

Children learnt to make Paper bucket, Paper Flowers,

Letter box with ice cream sticks,Pen case,greeting cards

making etc. Our Art and craft club incharge Mrs

Mamta Devi supported our children in craft work.

Sports:  Sports & Games : Actively 50 children particpated in sports. In our

home and as well as with other rainbow homes. Kabaddi, Chess, Kho-Kho, Cricket,

Tennis, Indoor games are organised.  

 §  Children learnt to participate in any sports irrespetive of winning or losing

§  our sports clubs incharge Miss Fatima & volunteer Mr Kautalya,Mr

Rajnikaanth,chess mentor supported our children to build their confidence in

sports.

Outings: Visit to Nehru Zoological Park:    

On 8th July ,2016. Home children and employees all together 98 members went for

outing to Zoopark. Children have seen different types of Living creatures and their

food habits, Different voices with their naked eyes and they realize difference

between domstic and wild animals.

 

Visit to Seven Tombs:  On 08th of October,the staff member along with

children went to Seven Tombs, for seeing Historical monuments. This information

is the part of their studies and it was very helpful for them.they learnt history of

that monuments,and they were very excited to see this place.

Children participation and Leadership: In our home we made 6 families of all the children; each family had one sneha sathi of our team member, every family had 3 elder sisters. Mostly sisters only take care of their families.

v  From 8th to 12th of June Children involved in child labor to mark the child labor

day on 12th June.

v  Children actively participated in Child rights Rally started on 14th November.  

   

v  Older girls future udaan program :   There was a Udaan

Workshop for 17 & 18 years above

anger management and how to deal with their sexuality.

         * We have 18 older girls in our home. We the team member conducted a meeting

to discuss regarding their future plan in the backdrop of Udaan inputs. Children

also participated well and came out with good plans.

* four 18+ girls we are planning to repatriate and we are making them ready to

attend Skill Building training and training them on Life Skills and for self-

reliance and become bold and confident in the society.

Celebrations and festivals: We have celebrated total 13

celebrations during this period. Like Ramadan ,Independence Day, Raksha

Bandhan, Janmashthami, Ganesh Chauti, Teachers Day, Bakrid, Gandhi Jayanthi,

Dushera, Diwali, Children Day, Birth days of children.

INDEPENDENCE DAY:   - on 15th August our children along with staff members

celebrated 70th Independence Day at Auto Nagar, Hyderabad. Our project in

charge hosted the flag and gave his valuable words to our children. Children learnt

about the great leaders who sacrificed their lives for the sake of country. Children

participated in cultural program me and they also had their lunch.

Ramdan: our children Celebrated Ramdan festival with great joy and they wore

new attire and performed prayer. They also had Special dish with sweet like

Sheerkhurma. They enjoyed the festival a lot. The guest of honors was Mohd Zubair

from TRS.

Janmashthami:

Janmashthami is the festival of Truth and Brother Hood. So

we taught our children to live with brotherhood. Many of the

children acted like gopi’s and Shruthi of III Class acted like Bal gopala little

Krishna.

Our children learnt to celebrate all religion festivals with equality and respect, and

also learnt different tradition and culture.

Engagement with Families: Parents’ meeting was conducted on

28th Of June 2016 in our home and the next meeting

after a gap of 6 months is salted at the end of this

month. Totally 20 parents attended the meeting. This

was meant to improve relationship with parents and to

share the issues like long absentees, child education

Status, Health status and achievements of their wards.

We are updating child care plan with parents and they are very happy when we are

informing them about the progress of their children in education and activities like

Drawing, Painting, Debate competitions etc. Some parent are co-operative they

also sometimes involve in the home by helping other children in dressing up,

combing, cleaning.

Building Social Perspectives:   The   social   perspective   is   getting   right  perspective  on  human  behavior  and  its  connection  to  the  society  

as   a   whole.   In   perspective   building   training   at   Bheem in

Rajasthan, staff discussed about general social issues like

Society, causes of problems & Young Children’s problems,

hidden and underlying facts about social issues etc. These

helped in building the perspective of staff and in turn that of children.

On September 9th there was a Meeting at APMWS Rainbow home on Human

rights by High Court advocate Mr. Shakeel. He explained what a normal man can

do for accessing these rights. Also he told the process of FIR when constitutional

rights are violated.

From 4th of November to 6th November, there was a meeting on Contemporary

Social issues at Bheem in Rajasthan. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the

current social issues and to get the knowledge of what is happening in society

presently.

RAINBOW TEAM

STAFF  STATUS:  -­‐ As on June, 2016, our home has 12 team members. In that 3 are

new staff i.e. HM 1, House Mother, and Security guard.

TEAM   TRAINING:     On 27th of July Home Management Coordinator has conducted Staff Induction Training briefly. In that she shared about APMWS Rainbow Home Introduction. She also shared about CPP (Child Protection Policy) with the staff, and gave information about rainbow homes of Hyderabad. She told that we save vulnerable children and provide them with love care and affection as a family. After this Training new staff came to know the principles of rainbow homes

Monthly staff reviews meetings  

 Monthly staff review meetings are conducted by the Project In Charge and Home Management Co-Ordinator. Staff will review their works and discuss about their problems or challenges if any, and also discusses how to deal them in the best way and prepares their work plan. Through these meetings, cooperation and Coordination among team improved. Staffs are encouraged to give their opinions / suggestions for development of the home and child  

VISITS:

       

Ð  On 2ND November Pratham Organization came to our home to talk with our children regarding child rights. How to fight for any injustice and also they gave awareness to children on their rights and on girl child.

Ð  Red Cross society (Sri Sai Group of School) organized an event on the eve of Children day, and provided Soap and toiletry to the children.

Ð   Deputy DEO Yellaiah Visited our home to saw the Education Status of Children. Ð   All the Visitor felt happy gave comments of appreciation at the end

Mass  Media   On 14th November we the rainbow home staff and children celebrated Children day, and also participated in rally against child labor and on girl child. The news came in Andhra Jyothi paper; the purpose of the celebration

was to educate the civil society on the rights.

Local  Contribution:   On 5th of July Farooq and Brothers from Civil society Gave New Dresses to all the children on Ramadan Festival.  

& on 10th of October Mr. Ali a local person visited our home and provides Mats and Blankets to All the children.

 

Challenges: Sandhya, single parent child of class 2nd ran away from home for five days allegedly to meet her mother. We the team members were very shocked and from the day onwards we started searching for the girl. We lodged a complaint in P.S. Police also co-operated in searching the girl. But after 5 days of struggle, she was found in one compound of Attapur Hyd. When she came back, she behaved very vulgarly with other children, but by the efforts of all staff members she is now behaving normally and going back to school.
