Hey Everybody If you are one of the 109 people who attended our March gathering than I know you saw lots of green. With a Irish greeting “Top of the morning” to everyone and a St. Pat- rick’s Day atmosphere it sure was a enjoyable gathering. I would like to thank everyone who attended. Thanks to Chapter “A” s Bowl-A-Thon that was held afterwards our attendance was extremely high. We filled up half of Old Country Buffet Restaurant. The winner of the 50\50 drawling was Joan Goble. Our extra drawling winner was Cathi Anderson who won both the Pot of Gold & the Tee shirt we gave away that says “I went to a Chapter “C” and all I got was this lousy T-Shirt. A big Thanks to John & Kim Athman who donated there breakfast money for the Ride for Kids. Also we would like to welcome another new member to our Chapter “C” family. Thanks Charlie & Sharon Ayers for choosing Chapter “C”. Its great to have you . After the gathering we Invited everyone to join us in the parking lot for a “NO ZONE” demonstration . Thanks to John W Ritter trucking Co. for allowing us to use one of their Tractor Trailers for the demonstration. Also a big thanks to Floyd Turner who is the driver for John W Ritter Trucking who runs that rig everyday. Several bikes were lined up along side the tractor trailer. A tricycle was placed in front of the truck. Everyone was asked to climb in and sit in the drivers seat. This gave everyone a chance to see or should I say what you can’t see if you are a driver of one of these big trucks. This gives you another view from what some- one else see’s and who you share the road with. After that it was off to Chapter “A”s Bowl-A- Thon. There were 14 bowlers & 7 cheerleaders. We didn’t win but we sure had a good time. Kudos' to Chapter “A”s Chapter Director Bob & Dorothy Richards and all of “A”s members for doing such a great job. It’s always a fun event to be apart of. Congratulations to “PA V” Chapter for all their awards. Our own Jen Heffner won a Drawling and received a new bowling ball. One of Chapter “C” youngest members Greg Wyatt won a prize for the lowest score. Even though we didn’t win big we really had a great time. Then on March 17 it was another large turn out for our garage meeting. There were 33 members including a member from the past. Wayne Pool was a Asst Chapter Director for Chapter “C” back in 1995. He also was the person who came up with the idea for the coverlet. The one we are still selling today. Another familiar face who at- tended was Fred Haynes, Dist. Director for Maryland. Thanks Fred for stopping by it was great to have you. And as always & as everyone knows a few bikes were worked on & the food & desserts was plentiful & good. Thanks to all that joined us and brought food and desserts. And as always thanks to Dave & Gloria for the use of their Garage and the food. PS. THE RIDING SEASON IS HERE LETS GO RIDING!!!! NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK I would like to first thank “Chapter C” for the warm welcome. I am a new Gold Wing rider and am really enjoying riding and the friendships we are making with the “Chapter C Family.” I attended another chapter meeting prior to visiting Chapter C.. Only one person said hi the entire evening. I guess that’s why there were only about 12 people there. What a difference with the welcome we got from Chapter “C”. I am really enjoying getting to know everyone in our chapter and especially enjoy the shop nights. I have really learned a lot about my bike as a result of the shop nights and the food is great. At the last breakfast Butch requested we send news-letter articles about rides we take. So here goes. Ed Johnson and I left here on March 16 south bound for Tampa FLA to visit family and friends. We left with overcast skies with the weather report showing a rain band that extended form here to Tampa. Since we were as-sured of rain we decided to fly Bonnie and Ruth by air. I was really concerned about the forecast but Ed assured me that all would be fine. Ed is approaching 100,000 Gold Wing Miles and as a new rider I believed his judge-ment. I have experienced rain for a few hours but not for 2-days and 1000 miles. We got about an hour down the road and you guessed it. The rain started. By the time we got below Richmond the rain turned to sleet the temperature was still around 37 degrees. We were on channel 19 and we heard “Breaker 1-9….south bound roads are starting to ice up” Ed replied “This is a two wheeler just where is all this ice”. Trucker replied “Two wheelers I’m on your back door and you’re in it right now.” While we never observed any icy road conditions it did get our attention. We were soon out of the ice and heavy rain persisted to Florence SC. After 450 miles of rain we de-cided to call it a day and turned in. We stayed at the Guesthouse Inn (Exit 164) 36.95/ night. Came with two queens and a hot breakfast. We got up early to get started and went to uncover the bikes only to find the parking lot iced over. So two cups of coffee and an hour or so later we were south bound again. Temp remained below 40 most of the day. We got a couple hours of dry roads and no rain. However, rain came back with a vengeance. There were times when trucks spray made the bikes not visible to the following bike for a few seconds. We hit the GA welcome center. A lady got out of an 18-wheeler and came over to us and apologized for drowning us a few miles back. The second day was a little better as we remembered to use the gators which helped with the wind and kept our feet from getting wet. Any way, we arrived in Tampa around 7pm at my sisters. The only bikes we saw on the was an occasional Harley on a trailer. We did about 800 miles in FLA with our wife’s. We visited friends, family and the FLA District Rally in Kissim-mee . The rally was near Disney and traffic was horrendous. We ran into Dave and Virginia at the Rally. Dave introduced us to friends he had made over the past years. Dave and Virginia really get around. After spending more time with the family we picked two days of sunshine and 70 degrees to return home. Once again we stopped in Florence SC. We stayed at the Microtel (Exit 164). Same price and little nicer accommodations. Ba-sic continental breakfast was included. The riding time in FLA, visiting friends and family, and the conditions coming home made the ride down well worth while. We look forward to getting to know all of you. Thanks again for the warm welcome. CHAPTER “C” ROCKS. By
