• By the 1900s, much of South Africa had started to become racist and much of the government was dominated by white Afrikaners.

***Meaning…black South Africans were fighting an uphill battle***

~To fight this uphill battle, South African blacks created the African National Congress.

• Despite the newly formed ANC, racial tensions and segregation continued to grow in South Africa creating a period in history known as the Apartheid.

various laws that required a policy of separation of races. No black Africans or white Afrikaners were allowed to do anything together.
