Allow me to introduce you to...The Apache Software Foundation.
Similar to the B Boy Foundation, in that both are “Open Source”…..But not what we will be addressing today.
Apache HTTP Server OVERVIEW
*Apache is a free open source, web server software.
*It runs on “Windows 2000Netware 5.x and above, OS/2, most versions of Unix and several other operating systems.”
*It was created by and is maintained by an open community of developers.
*Because Apache is open source, and community developed it is in a state of constant upgrade and development.
Back In The Day
• On December 1, 1995 Apache 1.0 was launched thanks to the collaborative effort of about a dozen people performing various programming and devloping roles.
• Within a year it became the number one server on the internet.
The Lingo
• Open Source Software: Software that is often developed via a collaborative effort.
• Source code: Can be thought of as the program’s instructions, written in a particular programming language.
• Add-ons: Products that are “designed to compliment other products.
