I am glad that you have chosen to continue your study of Spanish through the AP level. This will help you to be well prepared for Spanish courses when you enroll in college. Please realize that our District pays the 100 dollars for you to take this exam for free so please take advantage of the opportunity you have to save thousands of dollars in college. Getting a 4 or a 5 on this AP exam is extremely feasible if you decide to be resourceful and committed which in turn will help you prepare to be a college student next year for most of you. The AP Spanish Language Exam is the first week of May and this EXAM is designed to test your skills to see how well the results compare to abilities found in a third year college class. The exam will test all of the major language skills: reading comprehension, writing skills, speaking ability and listening comprehension, in addition to general cultural knowledge of the Hispanic world along with your knowledge of Los Estados Unidos. Therefore, you will need to continue your practice these skill areas this summer. The goals of the summer assignment are to improve your vocabulary so that you can communicate better in writing and speaking next year, to become familiar with various aspects of a Spanish-speaking culture, and to familiarize yourself with the 2018 AP Spanish Language and Culture exam. Make sure you type all your assignments and share them with me. In addition, you must have a 3 by 5 card with an outline for each topic because you will be presenting what you learned the first week of school. Be sure to practice orally, record yourself and listen to it several times so you know you are ready to present the first day of school. Familiarize yourself with the exam

Become familiar with everything that is published on the AP website about this exam. The test changes periodically, so try to find out specifically about the 2017 exam. Look up past essays, emails, multiple choice questions and more and see how they were scored by the A.P. graders.

After you have read through everything, write a short summary (+/-150 words) in Spanish of what you have learned about the exam. Include some ideas of how you will be able to best study over the course

of the year. You can also include your hopes, plans, areas of concern, etc. This assignment is worth 50 points.

Summer Assignment #2-vocabulario and 10 idiomatic expressions

Your first assignment will be to keep a list of vocabulary that you learn this summer and throughout the year, be sure to draw pictures or write sentences/expressions en español to help you remember. How are you going to gain vocabulary? Read things online, look for videos on Pinterest, watch movies, watch shows, do a separate playlist in Spanish of music you love, listen to the radio and you will learn a lot by listening to the people speaking! The vocabulary should be at an AP level. It should not be words that you already know. You will number each word and next to it, write a synonym in Spanish. Use www.wordreference.com to find your synonyms. Have at least 200 words and please use the front and back of each page you utilize. Please have 10 idiomatic expressions that will be easy for you to use in conver sations. This assignment is worth 100 points.

Summer Assignment #2-sección de la comparación cultural

Your assignment will be to do enough research and answer the following questions intelligently and with depth. Use the Internet to investigate (Pinterest has a lot of videos and information en español), be sure to type in the topic in Spanish and you will find a lot, for example type in las familias y las comunidades.. You will write/type 150-200 words in Spanish about each of the following questions. On each page, start with the number and the question. Then, write down the website(s) you consulted to gather your info, please print at least one article for each question because you will refer to them throughout the year for you to be prepared for the A.P EXAM in MAY. You will type your paper and share your resource article with me. Use your own words in Spanish in order to avoid plagiarism. Do not copy directly from the website. This assignment is worth 200 points. Be sure to have a 3 by 5 card filled out for each topic because you will present what you learned on each topic as soon as we begin school en agosto! Each time that you answer each question/topic, you will be addressing the topic by comparing a Spanish speaking country to the United States. For example, what is the role of family in forming/instilling values in young people in the United States vs. a Spanish speaking country?

8. Investiga/Research Antonio Gaudí, un arquitecto famoso de España. Find out a bit about his personal life and all the famous places he designed and built in Barcelona and compare his work to a famous arquitect here in the United States.

Assignment #4- Choose at least 5 movies to watch en español that are proper for you to watch. Look up the top movies/shows in Spanish and it will give them to you. GET hooked so you start immersing yourself!! Write a quick 3 by 5 review/opinion on what you thought of the movie.
