Instructions to the student:

Quiz #1 will be based on the content found in Chapters 1 – 8 of your Grove, Gray, and Burns (2015) textbook, reading worksheets, and assignments in Module 1 & 2. It is 25 questions long, and you will have 35 minutes to complete it. It is an open book quiz at the date and time listed in your syllabus. Once you begin the test, you must finish it in one sitting. You will not be able to go back and forth between test questions.

Your syllabus offers you several important tips about the quizzes in this course, testing online, and academic dishonesty. It is strongly recommended that you review this section of your syllabus as a part of your preparations for taking Quiz #1.

Quiz #1 Content:

Introduction to Research, history of research, ways that knowledge is acquired in nursing, research functions and educational preparation: 0 -4 questions

Characteristics of quantitative research designs in general, the four types of quantitative research designs and their specific attributes, RCTs, replication studies: 2 – 8 questions

Characteristics of qualitative research designs, five major types of research designs: 2 – 6 questions

Ethics in nursing research, historical events that have influenced ethical codes, ethical principles, human rights in nursing research, vulnerable populations, privacy, anonymity and confidentiality, informed consent, and the IRB. 2 – 6 questions

Research questions, objectives, and hypotheses. 2 – 4 questions Study problem and purpose statements. 2 – 3 questions Variables: independent, dependent, research, demographic, extraneous. 2 – 6 questions Literature reviews, primary vs secondary sources, theoretical and data-based literature. 1 – 3

questions. Elements of a theory, conceptual models, study / research frameworks, middle range theories

1 – 3 questions. APA formatting. 2 – 4 questions.
