Project leaders Bob Hange and Jon Orr attended the AFBF annual meeting in Austin, TX in January 2020 to share about the project. e Safe Farms training prop at the Wayne County Regional Training Facility is in its final stages of construction! e steel framed building has been constructed and the training platform is due to be completed this winter. A ribbon cutting ceremony is tentatively planned for May 2020. Please stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for details! ANNUAL MEETINGOver 170 people came out to our join Ashland Soil and Water Conservation District/Ashland County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at Honey Haven Farm in August! Great food, fellowship, and fun for the kids!

MEMBER APPRECIATION BREAKFASTOver 100 attendees joined Ashland County Farm Bureau at Mozelle Hall last February for a free breakfast! Going over especially well was the awarding of a variety of raffle prizes to attendees!

MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGNCongratulations to Ashland County Farm Bureau for achieving their 2019 membership goal! Below is the list of the volunteers who helped with membership! CENTENNIAL LOGO In June 2019, Ohio Farm Bureau’s new logo was painted onto one of the tanks at Ayers Farm along SR 39 in Perrysville in celebration of the centennial! Make sure to keep an eye out for it when you drive by – you probably won’t miss it!

A look back at 2019FARM TOURAshland County Farm Bureau organized the School Tour in September for local 3rd grade classes to come to Ayers Farm and tour the dairy farm as well as stop at several ag-related stations throughout the farm. The drive-it-yourself farm tour was held the following weekend in southern Ashland County with well over 800 attending! Thank you to the organizations and families who hosted a stop on the tour: Ashland Co Park District’s Byers Woods, Atterholt Farms, Mohican Gardens, Gaelic Glen Alpacas, Ugly Bunny Winery, and Ayers Farm.

ASHLAND COUNTY FAIRAshland County Farm Bureau, along with 4 local sponsors, provided t-shirts to 4-H exhibitors at the Ashland County Fair.

ASHLAND/WAYNE YOUNG AG PROFESSIONALSThe 3nd Annual Ag Toy Drive took place on November 21st at Lincoln Way Vineyards in Wooster and over $1200 in toys were donated to Associated Charities in Ashland! We could not have done it without the support of these sponsors!

UPCOMING EVENTS IN 2020!

Matt was recognized at the 2019 Ashland County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting as the 2019 Distinguished Volunteer

for his service to Ashland County Farm Bureau as a board member and President. Matt was raised in Licking County and moved to Ashland County in 2004 after marrying Jen Ayers. Matt and Jen now have four children ranging in age from 2 to 8 and raise hay and maintain a small cow herd at their farm in Perrysville. Matt stays busy working as an Independent Sales Agent for Haudenschild Agency. The Ashland County Farm Bureau board of trustees thanks Matt for his service to the organization and for his continued support in the membership campaign and assistance with the annual Drive-It-Yourself Farm Tour. We are deeply appreciative of your efforts!

Membership campaign – Join Ashland County Farm Bureau in this year’s membership campaign! ACFB’s campaign runs from January – March 2020. Prizes awarded for signing a new member. A special drawing will be held at the Member Appreciation Breakfast for anyone who brings in a new membership!

Feb 15: Member Appreciation Breakfast – Join us for a free pancake and sausage breakfast at Mozelle Hall on February 15th at the Ashland County Fairgrounds! Renew your membership at the breakfast and receive $5 in cash back! Sign up a new membership for a chance to win some great prizes! More details to be shared in separate postcard mailing.

March 15: Ohio Farm Bureau Night with the Cleveland Monsters as they take on Rochester! Tickets are $14 for upper bowl and $30 for lower bowl. Lower bowl tickets include a hot dog, chips, and drink. All tickets include a skate after the game (you can bring your own skates or they will provide some). Tickets can be purchased at rocketmortgagefieldhouse.com/ofbf.

March 24: Safety Meeting – Come for a light breakfast and learn about safety topics such as rural road safety and how to avoid taking on other’s liabilities. Attendance at this meeting qualifies for worker’s comp group rating program safety credits. Meeting is Tuesday March 24 from 8:30 to 11 AM at the Farm Bureau office in Wooster. RSVP to 330-263-7456 by March 20.

SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS DUE MARCH 15!Ashland Co Farm Bureau is distributing a total of $3,000 in scholarships via the Ashland County Community Foundation for 2020. Please share this scholarship opportunity with any Ashland County youth that will be studying in an agriculture-related field in the fall! To apply, go to accommunityfoundation.org and complete the application online.

SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS

Scholarships are awarded to assist graduating high school seniors and current college students that are residents of Ashland County or have graduated from any Ashland County high school who have a GPA of 2.5 or higher and have been accepted to an accredited two or four year college/university. Only those majoring in an agricultural related field will be considered.

Students will be evaluated on extracurricular activities, work experience and communication based on essay. Additional points will be awarded for students involved in agriculture related extracurricular activities and students who are members or dependents of members of the Ashland County Farm Bureau. Past recipients may reapply.
