On Thursday the 29th of January there was a buzz around Scoil na mBuachailliacute
as buses arrived with visiting schools from Macroom Convent and Barryroe
National school Our school hall was to be the venue for a singing workshop for
the National Childrenrsquos Choir with one hundred and fifteen children singing
together in a choir of soprano and alto voices
All pupils had prepared nine songs from the repertoire of eighteen and with the
fantastic guidance of the musical director on the day Joan Marie a very produc-
tive rehearsal and workshop took place
All pupils mixed well and
new friendships formed
Scoil na mBuachailliacute was
filled with beautiful harmo-
nies throughout the day as
the snow began to fall si-
lently outside
At the end of a hard but en-
joyable days rehearsals
each pupil received a treat
of crisps and a soft drink
this was generously provided by the parents Association
A huge thanks to all who helped to make this day a memorable one Finbarr and
the boys from 6th for preparing the Hall Thelma Mr Duke Parents Association
(especially Robert Hancock the chairperson of the parents Association) who
helped distribute on the day) And Mr Harrington for all the support and help in
all things technical and
practical and for allowing
Scoil na mBuachailliacute to host
the 1st rehearsals for The
National Childrenrsquos Choir
It was a fantastic day and
all visiting schools had a
wonderful time

Parents now that children are back in school please be
vigilant and check your childrsquos hair regularly for head-
lice If you find any please notify the school and we will
send a note to all parents in that class
It would be so much safer if you did not bring chil-
dren across the road by the hand at 300 pm often
crossing between cars and traffic which can be danger-
ous and may even encourage another child to attempt
the same on his own with possible disastrous conse-
quences
Please always use the wardens when on duty and at
the very least the zebra crossing which is there for this
purpose
Thank you
Good luck to Ms Fitzmaurice and the school Quiz teams in the Credit
Union Quiz on Sunday 1st of February
Many thanks to Ms Fitzmaurice for organising this in our school
A number of boys in the school are allergic to nuts and
for them any contact with nuts or products containing
traces of nuts can be dangerous for example NUTEL-
LA
Please be aware of this when organising your childrsquos
lunch and if possible do not allow your child to bring
anything containing nuts to school Your help in this
matter is very much appreciated
ps Please give your children water to drink coming
to school - not sweet or fizzy drinks
Page 9 Volume 20 Issue 06
As you may know we are now running the LITERACY LIFT-OFF PRO-
GRAMME throughout the school (from Junior Infants ndash Sixth)
Part of this programme requires a parentcarer to read with their child EVERY
DAY at home
In the Junior classes the entire short book is to be read and in the Senior Clas-
ses it may be a chapter of the book
The parent carer then signs the sheet accompanying the book It should be
an enjoyable session taking no more than ten minutes
After reading you might discuss the book eg What do you think is going to happen What was your favourite part Did you
like the ending Who was your favourite character Can you relate to what happened
If you have any concerns about helping your child to read you can contact your class teacher or Ms Carol OrsquoBoyle at 8834487
Please ask Thelma to make an appointment You will be amazed the difference your input can make to your childrsquos reading
To be a good reader takes PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE It is so important that you play your part
If you would like to help out and be part of our LLO team we would very much appreciate it Please contact Carol at
8834487 We are extremely fortunate that we have so many willing to help in the school - without their help we could not
run the programme
REMEMBER PLEASE ENSURE YOUR CHILD RETURNS HIS BOOKS EVERY DAY TO SCHOOL THEY ARE
NEEDED BY YOUR SON OR BY OTHER CHILDREN
This is very important as a lot of teaching time can be lose ringing parents to bring back books to the school Itrsquos in every-
onersquos interest to ensure that books are returned each day and the form signed by you - the parents
WANTED Any spare booksnovels would be greatly appreciated by Carol OrsquoBoyle the boys and her Literacy Lift Off team
Good luck to Ms Grace OrsquoShea and the school basketball team who
are travelling to Cork on Monday 3rd of February to compete in the
interschool basketball competition
Many thanks to Ms OrsquoShea for coaching the boys after school
throughout the year Thanks also to the parents and Mary Buckley
Healy who are bringing the boys to Cork
Our annual Spelling
Bee will take place in
the next two weeks in
the school

the same on his own with possible disastrous conse-

If you would like to help out and be part of our LLO team we would very much appreciate it Please contact Carol at
8834487 We are extremely fortunate that we have so many willing to help in the school - without their help we could not
run the programme

the same on his own with possible disastrous conse-

Thank you

If you have any concerns about helping your child to read you can contact your class teacher or Ms Carol OrsquoBoyle at 8834487
Please ask Thelma to make an appointment You will be amazed the difference your input can make to your childrsquos reading

for them any contact with nuts or products containing
traces of nuts can be dangerous for example NUTEL-

Please be aware of this when organising your childrsquos
lunch and if possible do not allow your child to bring
anything containing nuts to school Your help in this
matter is very much appreciated
ps Please give your children water to drink coming
