DEACON’S CORNERSAM I AM?

The good Samaritan helps a Jew. Samaritans and Jews were enemies. Jesus’ point: All are our neighbors!

Faith without good works? Dead! We must do good works….for all!

Want to Share Your Faith?Volunteer with Children Faith Formation! Our dedicated catechists, assistants, and hallway volunteers make the program possible. We are currently in need of volunteers to help us with our Sunday school and Sunday Children’s Liturgy of the Word programs. We prepare everything, even the scripts, for you. All you need to do is show up! Please consider donating an hour of your time Sunday morning to foster the faith in the hearts and minds of our children.

When can my child prepare for 1st Reconciliation and 1st Eucharist?Sacrament Preparation is a two-year process. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation for two consecutive years (generally during fi rst grade and second grades) and must be members of the Catholic faith to receive the sacraments. Children celebrate 1st Reconciliation in December and 1st Eucharist in the spring of their second year of faith formation.

Volunteering in LaredoThe Archdiocese has reached out to St. Michael to respond to a humanitarian crisis along the border in the Diocese of Laredo. Catholic Charities has been receiving an average of 250+ immigrants/day who have crossed the border legally and seeking asylum. Volunteers are desperately needed to help cook, serve, clean, sort donations, take phone calls, welcome people, and drive people to bus stations and airports (shuttles provided). One does not need to speak Spanish to volunteer. Volunteers will be accommodated with free lodging and food.

Jesus tells us to welcome the stranger. St. Michael will be on the front lines to seek and serve Christ in the immigrant. Our goal is to bring 5-15 people on July 24-27, leaving Wednesday evening and return-ing late Saturday night. A vehicle will be provided for transportation, but volunteers can bring their own vehicles as well. If you are interested, please contact Jennifer Gonzalez at 713-403-4197 or [email protected].
