The phrase “Pitch-Catch” implies a connection between a person “pitching” something and another person “catching” it. In our world of material conveyance, it literally means tracking the issuance of production material from the time parts are put together in a “kit” at the warehouse, to when they are delivered to a specific work center on the facility. At EB, “Pitch-Catch” is actually a business system software enhancement that went live in January to provide the current status of material orders (assigned, working, completed or delivered), as well as the location of the material kits (including date & time) for anyone who’s interested (Ops, Plan-ning, etc.). “Pitch-Catch” is EB’s version of package tracking, similar to that provided by on-line businesses like Amazon and FedEx. This material status & location information replaces the prior unknown status of kits, which sometimes has been referred to as a “black hole” because the kits loose their visibility and can be anywhere on the facility. Dept 933/950 has begun the process of scanning and statusing requested kits so QP personnel with access to EWP can find out the status of their kits by clicking the “KIT Status” button on the appli-cable work order. Pitch-Catch is a significant process improvement that provides visibility for ordered kits throughout the conveyance process (where it is & when it is there) and ultimately minimizes the time spent looking for material. Pitch-Catch is enabling Dept 933/950 to provide the right material, at the right time, in the right location, typically within 3 days of ordering (92% of the time); 98% of ma-terial orders are delivered within 5 days. A brief is being prepared to provide specifics on how to find ma-terial status & location on-line.
