“October Military Holidays” There are three National holidays in October for Military personnel. October 21st, National Pets for Veterans Day. Many brave troops return home with scars both seen and unseen – that make it difficult to transition back to civilian life. At the same time, millions of wonderful companion animals wait in shelters for a forever home. Pets for vets is the bridge that brings them together. October 26th, National Day of the Deployed. Today, take a moment to remember, honor and thank the dedication our deployed military displays for our country. October 27th, Navy Day. Navy Day was first celebrated in 1922 by the Navy League of the United States, a civilian nonprofit organization, as a day to pay tribute to the men and women we call sailors. The Governor has taken the state to, Covid- 19 Recovery Phase 3, which has opened up bars to 50 % capacity and restaurants to 100 %. I have added a few stools around the bar spread 6 feet apart. We still need to remain vigilant about social distancing and contamination control with face coverings when not eating or drinking and within the 6 foot distance from other individuals. We don’t want to be the next news paper headline or risk harming others! Bingo is still on hold this month due to several internal factors which make it difficult to run at this time. We will revisit the possibility of running bingo next month. Donations of time, monies and medical equipment are always welcome and appreciated. Please support the post and local Veterans. Stay safe and healthy, social distance and wear face covers. That's all for now! Sincerely, Keith Tremblay Commander, VFW Post 8696 Hello Everyone! October is here already. The Emory Bennett Veterans Nursing Home is still closed to visitors and volunteers but is gradually opening up to allow outdoor visits between residents and loved ones.

It is planned to have an outdoor Veterans Day Ceremony at the home on November 11th and details will be sent out before the ceremony is held.

Since the pandemic has started, we have been continually providing the home with cash for Bingo Prizes, new men's clothing ,military ball caps, and toiletries which have all been provided by generous cash donations from the members of the South Daytona Sons Of The American Legion Squadron 361 and those fromHolly Hill Sons Of The American Legion Squadron 120.

Thank you for your long term support of the nursing home. It is sincerely appreciated by the residents and staff.

Best Regards,

Don Lepore ,Veterans Council Of Volusia County
