Fourth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Rave reviews greeted Jesus’ first hometown homily proclaiming a year of God’s mercy, but the mood

turned violent when he went on to declare that God’s mercy embraces outsiders; it rejects distinctions be-

tween citizen and foreigner, acceptable and unworthy, even sinner and saint. Far from being anyone’s per-

sonal possession, God’s kingdom is open to everyone, God’s love unconditional, God’s mercy boundless. By

this Jubilee of Mercy, Pope Francis repeats Jesus’ challenge in today’s Gospel to broaden our horizons until our vision matches Jesus’ vision of every sinner as a potential saint, and each suffering stranger as our neighbor. Jesus, says Pope Francis, continually went

beyond the law, keeping company with public sinners and even sharing meals with them to demonstrate that

God’s mercy is “the beating heart of the Gospel” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12). To be truly Jesus’

disciples, such unconditional love and boundless mercy must also be at the center of all we say and do.

Birthright will be handing out baby bottles after all the Masses the weekend of February 13-14. This is an excellent Lenten project for your family. As you and your children fill the bottles with mon-ey to help support Birthright, you may want to take the opportunity to talk

about the precious gift of life that God has given us and our obligation to stand up for life.

SCHEDULED SECOND COLLECTIONS: 1st Sunday: Maintenance Fund

5th Sunday: Social Ministry

In 1972 Pope Paul VI revised several ministries and minor clerical orders. One ministry that was pre-

served was the ministry of the instituted acolyte. While the term acolyte is at times

used when referring to young men and women who assist at the altar (altar serv-ers), the ministry of acolyte is a perma-

nent institution. Because the ministry has its roots in the formation of ordained clergy, the ministry is re-served to men. The instituted acolyte is appointed to assist the deacon and serve the priest in the celebra-tion of the liturgy. He is an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion serving only when sufficient ordi-nary ministers are not available. Men must be at least

21 years of age, fully initiated and living an exemplary Christian way of life, with no impedi-

ments to sacramental reception, (e.g. if married, one must be in valid marital union recognized by the

Church). For more information please contact Deacon Ray in the parish office.

We are searching for volunteers interested in creat-ing that good first impression by serving as an Usher at weekend Masses. Individuals must be willing to greet Parishioners, provide support during the Mass,

assist in seating at Mass, take up the collection, help manage Com-munion flow, assist Parishioners in any need they have, and pass out Bulletins after Mass. The time commitment is about 90 minutes, 1 - 2 Sundays a month.

Please contact Deacon Ray in the parish office or email him at: [email protected]

Update Membership Information We are updating our parish records. Does our parish data-base have your family membership records correct? It is that time for us to update our database with any changes,

additions, or deletions that may have occurred in your family over the past year.

Have you changed your phone number? Have you moved? Are you preparing to move soon? Are all of your children still at home and are they all included in your membership record? If you have not already informed the parish office, please call us at 281-353-5053. You can also go online (www.stjta.org) to update your information or send us an email with your changes.

Beginning February 12th, Knights of Columbus will be hosting

Lenten Fish Fry Friday’s during Lent from 5:00:pm to 6:30 pm in

the Parish Hall. Followed by Stations of the Cross at 7:00 pm in the church.

Catholic Book and Media Fair at our Parish (or Pauline Book & Media Fair)

The Daughters of St. Paul will be at our parish after each Mass on Febru-ary 6-7, 2016. Come and choose something to nourish your life of faith: a Bible, Catechism, the life of Jesus, lives saints, prayer books, movies, music... and much more. We look forward to seeing you!

The Family Fun Night Ministry needs your help! We are in need of dona-tions for the Annual East-er Egg hunt. We are in need of prepackaged candy, plastic eggs, toys, gift cards, and more. The Easter Egg Hunt is one of the most popular events of the year (hundreds of children attend!) and we need your help to make it the best it can be. For more information you can contact Erik @ 281-236-2729 or @[email protected]. God Bless.

What is National Catholic Schools Week? National Catholic Schools Week is the annual cel-ebration of Catholic education in the United States. It starts the last Sun-

day in January and runs all week, which in 2016 is January 31 - February 6.

The theme for the National Catholic Schools Week 2016 is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Ser-vice.” Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, fam-ilies, parishioners and community members. Through

these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church,

our communities and our nation.
