A Special Welcome to All: God himself is with us! May the Holy Spirit fill

your hearts to praise the Lord for all the blessings of his grace today.

If you are a visitor to Caroline Church, please sign our Guest Book in the Vestibule, including your address and telephone number. Hearing assisted devices & large print prayer books are available each Sunday on the table in the Vestibule. Please ask the ushers for assistance. We offer ‘Gluten Free’ Communion wafers to those who have allergies. If you would like to receive this at Communion time, please speak to one of the Clergy before the service begins. All are welcome to join us for coffee hour after the 9:30am Service across the back parking lot in the MCS building. The Prayer Team members are available in the church after the 9:30 a.m. service this morn-ing. All requests for prayer are kept confidential.

We welcome Emma Rose Schmitt into our Christian Family today as she receives the Sacrament of Bap-tism. Let us uphold and guide her toward God’s great love for her.

Upper Room Bible Study (formerly known as the Home Bible Study): The Upper Room Bible Study will meet on Monday, December 12th, for a pot luck supper at the home of the Johnson’s beginning at 6:00pm. ‘Explore the Word’ Bible Study: Wednesday, December 14th at 7:00pm. The theme of the study is that worship, praying the psalms to-gether, expresses our relationship to God and forms us in faith so that we begin to see ourselves and our lives in the context of God's love. Location is 16 Knox Ave., Stony Brook. Call Sue Seel for directions or 631-312-4204. We meet every other week. You may join at any time.

There are ADVENT DEVOTIONALS in the back of the church. Please take one on your way out to use each day, preparing your-self for remembering the birth of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Mitten Tree ‘Box’ This year we thought it would be easier to have a Mitten Tree ‘Box’, which is placed in the MCS main room on weekends and in the hallway during the week, because of the school.

Please consider purchasing NEW hat, scarves and/or mittens to be placed into this box for adults or children. These items will be distrib-uted to the Soup Kitchen patrons in January. Let’s help keep someone warm during the winter months. Thank you.

2017 Offering Envelopes

Your new offering envelope box is in the ‘upper’ room of the Parish House in alphabetical order.

Please walk over there after Sunday Services and pick yours up, this will save us the postage of mailing it to you. If you cannot find one with your name on it, and would like one, please call the parish office and we will get one for you. Thank you.

The Third Sunday of Advent

Gaudete Sunday In the Roman Catholic Church, the Anglican Communion, the Luther-an Churches, and some liturgical Protestant churches today, the Third Sunday of Advent is known as Gaudete Sunday. The joy of expecta-tion is emphasized by the Introit Gaudete in Domino semper (rejoice in the Lord always). Today's scripture lessons beginning with Zephaniah tells us that there are a lot of reasons to be joyful: "Sing joyfully, O Israel!" The epistle again invites us to rejoicing, and bids us prepare to meet the coming Savior with prayers and supplication and thanksgiv-ing, while the Gospel, in the words of St. John Baptist, warns us that the Lamb of God is even now in our midst, though we appear to know Him not. Advent traditionally was observed as a penitential season which made it a counterpart to Lent, the middle (or third) Sunday corresponding with Laetare or Mid-Lent (Mothering) Sunday. On it, as on Laetare Sunday, vibrant organ music and flowers, forbidden during the rest of the season, were permitted to be used; and rose-colored vestments were allowed instead of purple or sarum blue. Gaudete Sunday, therefore, makes a breaker like Laetare Sunday, about midway through a season which is otherwise of a penitential character, and signifies the nearness of the Lord's coming. The candle lit for the third week of Advent on our Advent wreath is Rose or Pink colored, to signify the hope for the coming of Jesus. Our joy and gladness in the Promised Redemption should never be absent from the hearts of the faithful.

Caring for the Caregiver Support Group: Car ing for the Caregiv-er Support Group meets every second and fourth Saturday of the month from 9:30 – 11:00 AM in the Parish House. There is no cost for partici-pating and the group being non-sectarian, non-denominational and not disease specific is open to all caregivers in our community. Our next meeting will be December 24th.

2017 Calendars Are you a family that receives free 2017 calendars and have too many and don’t know what to do with them? There will be a basket out each week upstairs in the parish house to collect those you don’t want. Once collected, they will be donated to a local nursing home. Patients nor-mally do not have calendars in their rooms and this would be helpful to them. Contact Virginia Cash with any questions. Thank you.

On-line E-Giving The church anticipates and relies on a seasonal increase in contribu-tions during the Christmas holidays. It’s through the donations from our members and visitors that we’re able to expand the reach of our ministry. If you need a convenient way to make recurring contributions or plan to make an additional gift before the end of the year, check out our electronic giving options. As the pace of life speeds up around the holi-days, you may find e-Giving a most welcome way to make contribu-tions. To set up a recurring giving schedule, visit the church website and click on the Online Giving button. Thank you for your generosity and support.
