CENTERVILLE MESSENGER (096380) Free Upon Request-Published Weekly by Centerville Church of Christ, 138 N. Central Ave., Centerville, TN 37033-1427 June 8, 2016 Volume XXXVI - Number 23 “I Hope You Know” When Paul left Titus on the island of Crete, there was a void, a vacuum of faith in the lives of the people of God. They had not allowed themselves the transformation which was needed into the image of their Savior. Can the same be said for Christian lives today? Truly our lives must do more than acknowledge the gospel, they must be shaped and centered around living the gospel. In order for our lives to share the gospel we must allow the gospel to transform us into a newer, better, greater image: the likeness of Jesus Christ. Where does your faith, your life, your foundation, your guide for all things in your existence originate? If not with God, then where? Faith, truth, salvation, and eternal life are all from God. “The faith of God’s elect” is a faith which called to the hearts of those who knew their lives were in chaos and needed to find a new beginning, a new origin. For a Christian, our origin story is finding that the chaos of our lives can no longer be given free reign in our lives. “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). The faith of God’s elect is the substance of our lives and the wholeness of our days. The origin of faith propels us to something greater than this life, for it is the hope of eternal life. In order that we might overcome the chaos of the world, we must go back to the origin of all things, which is our Creator, the founder and architect of life, our God and Father of all. “For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you” (Titus 1:5). When Paul completed his time in Crete, he left Titus there to help advance the cause, further the character of the church he had helped to establish through the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. There was something undone and lacking, and Paul wanted it to be complete. We should never lose sight of the timeless truth that what God ordains by truth, through that same truth He is able to supply our lives the order they are lacking. No matter the chaos which surrounds any life, any household, or any church, God is able to bring order out of that chaos. Notice how God accomplishes this task. It’s through the ordaining of overseers (elders), whose emphasis of life is that of their family and their legacy. God has always ordered His divine plan out of the chaos around us, one family at at time. Ours is an opportunity to show what faith in a world of chaos can do, where it can lead, and what it can create in the heart and life of each person who is committed to living out that faith in truth and love. People, even Christians, continually ruin their lives through the persistence in the brokenness that is the world around us. Make no mistake about it, the brightest light of our Lord can shine in our darkest days. Now is our opportunity to allow faith which has transformed us to guide us in conviction and consecration so that the world can follow a true light, leading them away from the chaos that is the darkness around us. I hope you know, it will not be easy, but through one family at a time, bringing order into the lives of one family by one family, we will make the impact on the world which will give the hope of eternal life.

“I Hope You Know”

When Paul left Titus on the island of Crete, there was a void, a vacuum of faith in the lives of the people of God. They had not allowed themselves the transformation which was needed into the image of their Savior. Can the same be said for Christian lives today? Truly our lives must do more than acknowledge the gospel, they must be shaped and centered around living the gospel. In order

for our lives to share the gospel we must allow the gospel to transform us into a newer, better, greater image: the likeness of Jesus Christ. Where does your faith, your life, your foundation, your guide for all things in your existence originate? If not with God, then where?
