Happy October! It’s that time again!? We will accept nomination again this month for the Board of Directors. Please provide nominations to me or Tony through email or in print at the meetings. We will vote at the November meeting and you must be present to vote. Actual members can vote, associate members (i.e. family members) are not eligible. The new Board of Directors will begin in January of 2018. I sent an email with a list of events over the next couple of months. If you plan on attending, let others in the club know so we can go together. The Facebook page is a great way to communicate cruising to a show. Our Road Rally is 2 months from now! If you attend an event, please take flyers and promote our Road Rally. We still need a few more volunteers for the Road Rally. Come to the meeting and get the details we know as of now for those desiring to participate and volunteer. Please remember, it takes club member volunteers to put on an event. The road rally is no exception. There will be opportunities for club members to participate in the rally itself also. Next May is our national show. This is very important for the club, the community, our sponsor opportunities, and our benefit. Hosting the national shows are a lot of hard work but fun. Be part of the fun. Hope to see you at the meeting!! Matt

From the Editor

Todd Smith

Well, October is upon us folks! Pretty soon the weather will probably change and we will put away our shorts and flip flops for warmer attire. This means some of our babies will be put up for our other vehicles. We will have a fun even in November, so I’m sure some of the ponies (and snakes) will be out and about. As the year winds down, keep in mind out board officers will be switching out in January. We have our nominees and will be voting in at the November meeting. Speaking of meetings, December is fast approaching and we will have our annual Christmas party at The Legend’s Club once again. More details to follow once everything is finalized. On a personal note, it has been a privilege to serve as Secretary/Editor these last two years. I have learned a lot and hopefully have done a decent job representing the club. I have no doubt that our next Secretary will do an outstanding job. Keep the shiny side up and between the lines! Todd Smith Secretary/Editor [email protected]

Board Member Nominees

Mike Anchor

I have been nominated for the position of President for the CSRA Mustang Club for the upcoming 2 years. I humbly accept the nomination. Many of you know me, but I’m sure many don’t, so let me introduce/reintroduce myself. I have been a member of the CSRA Mustang Club and the Mustang Club of America since 1998. During that time, I have served the CSRAMC as Treasurer, Secretary/Editor and MCA Regional Director. I am currently a MCA National Director. It was my honor and privilege to be the Show Chairman for the “Gateway Southern Stampede National Mustang Show” in 2015 and again for the “Georgia on My Mind National Mustang Show” to be held in 2018. My family consists of two Mustangs; a 1993 GT (“Jenny”) and a 2012 MCA Edition Mustang (“Waylon”) …oh, and my wife, Tina and a daughter and son, Samantha and Zane (who has a 95 SVT Cobra).

The CSRA Mustang Club has literally become my second family. I am truly blessed and honored to call so many members “friend.” I was drawn to the hobby and the club because of my love of the Mustang. What I found was that the Mustang has been a vessel used to forge many lasting friendships. As president, I would like to continue the legacy of those that have guided the club and formed my devotion to the club. Each member of the CSRA Mustang Club is an asset and vitally important to the club. I am proud to be a member of a club that continually gives back to the community, most notably the Rebecca Erryn Moon Foundation.

I would appreciate your support by voting for me as President of the CSRA Mustang Club for the next two years. If elected, I know that the shoes of past presidents are mighty big to follow. I have a few ideas that I’d like to implement to ensure that the club remains one of the premiere MCA charter clubs and to keep club members engaged and involved in activities. I may fall flat on my face, but I’m willing to give it the old college try!

Don Blackstock

I've been an active member of the CSRA Mustang Club for 20 years, having served as President for 6 years and Regional Director for 2 years. I have served two 2-year terms as MCA National Director and have submitted my bio to be considered for another 2-year term beginning in 2018. I have worked in the judging community for several years and am presently an MCA Gold Card Judge in the Occasional/Daily Driven classes. I assisted the Executive Director of the Mustang 50th Birthday Celebration in Charlotte in 2014 and the MCA 40th Anniversary Celebration in Indianapolis in 2016, serving as vendor liaison for both events. I also served in the same capacity during the CSRA Mustang Club's MCA National Show in 2015. I have actively sought and secured sponsorship for many past CSRA Mustang Club events and continue to work on behalf of the club in that area. I would like your support as I run for CSRA Mustang Club Vice-President for the 2-year term beginning January 2018.

James Aldridge Hello! My name is James Aldridge and I am running for the Officer position of Secretary/Editor for the CSRA Mustang Club. I have been a Ford Mustang Fanatic for over 30 years (although my first Ford was an ’86 Mercury Capri RS – I should’ve kept that car, but that’s another story for another time!). I love the Mustang and everything it represents to the automotive community. I bleed ford Blue.

I have been a member of the CSRA Mustang Club since 1994. Over the years I have held every Officer position in the Club at least once. During that time period, I help the Club grow to the popularity it is today. I have been Show Chairman for several shows over the years and have Chaired and served on numerous committees. My involvement in Club activities cannot be questioned.

If elected to the Secretary/Editor, I will strive to keep the records up to date and available to Club members, as well as keep the Newsletter informative and entertaining. I will also promote the Club to the public in a complimentary manner. I would like to see the Club membership grow and get the youth membership more involved in the workings of the Club. I promise to uphold the reputation and respect of the CSRA Mustang Club and perform the duties of Secretary/Editor to the best of my ability. Thank you and please consider for the Secretary/Editor position.

Ford News and Notes

New Appearance Package for 2018 Mustang Puts Pony Logo Back in Chrome Corral

The pony is going back into the corral. An available Pony Package for the 2018 Mustang – offered with EcoBoost®-equipped cars – gives a nod to the nameplate heritage with its grille-mounted pony-in-corral badge design. As it was more than 50 years ago, the iconic Mustang logo will be surrounded in a chrome corral for the 2018 Ford Mustang-equipped Pony Package. The badge design first appeared on Mustang in the mid-1960s when the car was still in concept phase. It has appeared in various forms since, and was last used as part of an anniversary package for 2015. The pony-in-corral grille badge is one of numerous appearance updates included with the Pony Package. Other features include:

• 19-inch polished aluminum wheels

• Bright beltline and window trim for fastback model • Premium carpeted floor mats with Ebony embroidered pony logo

• Side stripes on lower body sides

• Tri-bar pony badge on rear decklid appliqué

The 2018 Mustang is due in showrooms this October.

2018 Mustang GT Owners Can Now Hush the V8 Growl to be Good Neighbors; Brush with the Law Gave Engineer the Idea

• Industry-first Quiet Start – also called “Good Neighbor Mode” by Mustang engineers – allows drivers to schedule the time of day when their Mustang GT’s V8 engine will roar and when to keep it quiet to show courtesy to neighbors

• New Quiet Exhaust mode limits volume of 2018 Mustang GT’s 5.0-liter V8 engine using active valve performance exhaust system that closes valves to restrict the amount of noise made by the car

• According to a recent poll by Ranker.com, loud engine revving ranks among the most annoying noises neighbors make, alongside other common nuisances including lawn mowers, power tools, barking dogs and band practice

DEARBORN, Mich., Aug. 1, 2017 – Someone called the cops on Steve von Foerster. The former head of vehicle engineering for Ford Motor Company wasn’t thrilled, but he understood why.

On an otherwise peaceful morning in his suburban Detroit neighborhood, von Foerster had just backed a Shelby GT350 Mustang out of his driveway. As the car’s V8 engine thundered, an annoyed neighbor set aside their coffee cup and dialed 911. Von Foerster had left before the officers arrived, and he didn’t end up with a ticket. Nor did he get angry. What he got was an idea for the new Mustang.

“I love the sound of the V8, but it can be loud, and you can’t annoy people like that in your neighborhood,” said von Foerster, who now leads Ford’s user experience team in product development. “It sounds so cool, but I thought, ‘There has to be a way to give people more control over the engine’s sound.’”

The experience fueled a discussion between von Foerster and fellow Mustang program team members that led to development of Quiet Exhaust mode and industry-first Quiet Start, known as “Good Neighbor Mode” among Mustang engineers. The new features on properly equipped 2018 Mustang GT vehicles allow drivers to keep engine sound at a minimum if they wish and to program quiet start-up times in advance.

While some sports cars offer active exhaust systems with on/off functionality, Mustang’s Quiet Start is the first to allow scheduling of times. Using steering wheel-mounted thumb controls, drivers toggle through a menu in the instrument cluster to select when they want to fire up their Mustang GT without sharing the event with neighbors. For example, between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m., drivers can keep the peace by scheduling their car to start, minus the roar.

Both new Quiet Exhaust mode and Quiet Start features will be part of the available active valve performance exhaust system on the new Mustang GT, along with different exhaust volumes for Normal, Sport and Track modes, giving customers more choice than ever before.

YUK, YUCK!!

“Buy Yourself Something Nice, Jerk” My friend, an intern, was given $50 to get the chairman of the bank some lunch. Told to get himself something, he bought a shirt.

The Problem With New Jeans I was at the customer-service desk, returning a pair of jeans that was too tight.

“Was anything wrong with them?” the clerk asked.

“Yes,” I said. “They hurt my feelings.”

The Mystery Kitchen Utensil… My collection of vintage kitchen utensils includes one whose intended purpose was always a

mystery. It looks like a cross between a metal slotted spoon and a spatula, so I use it as both.

When not in use, it is prominently displayed in a decorative ceramic utensil caddy in my kitchen.

The mystery of the spoon/spatula was recently solved when I found one in its original packaging at a rummage sale.

It’s a pooper-scooper.
