Transcript of “FAMILY FEUD”...Jun 13, 2018 · Family Join us as we explore Family Feuds of the Bible! God...
Have you ever seen the
TV game show “Family
Feud”? I imagine that
you’ve run across it
somewhere along the
way. The program had its
debut in 1976, and has
been shown off and on
for the last 42 years!
It’s a fun game show, but
you know why I think
folks are attracted to it?
Because of the name. We
all know what it’s like to
find ourselves right
smack dab in the middle
of a family feud…
whether it’s over where
to eat dinner or who
inherits grandma’s
favorite quilt.
If you’ve ever found
yourself in conflict with
anyone, but especially a
family member, you’ll
want to come to worship
this summer. Our sermon
series is called “Family
Feuds of the Bible”.
Do any of these stories
speak to you?
June 3 -- Cain and Abel: It
All Started Here
June 10 -- Abraham and Lot:
The Geographical Solution
June 17 -- The Prodigal
Brothers
June 23 -- Sarah and Hagar:
My Kid is Better Than Your
Kid!
July 1 -- Saul and Jonathan:
The Man Who Would Not Be
King
July 8 -- Jacob and Esau: All
I Need or Want
July 15 -- Joseph and His
Brothers: God Meant It For
Good
July 22 -- Mary and Martha:
Make Her Help!
July 29 -- Jesus’ Mother and

Family Feuds of the
Bible!

Dear Everyone,
Thank you so so much for receiving us in the past two

The Habitat for Humanity volunteers have been very busy
lately, with new builds in both Angleton and Freeport. A group
of them are pictured here standing in front of their latest build,
House #107, in Angleton. (House #104 is also visible in the
background to the left where red vehicle is in driveway). This is
the 3rd
house built this year and the 107th
Habitat house built in
our local area since 1991.
You may recognize some of these hardworking volunteers who
are also members of our active church family: (left to right)
Mark Frels, Don Dyer, Jill Dyer, Margaret Bachman, Vicki,
Tip Masterson, Megan Harper (prospective homeowner), Tom
Crawford and Ron Bachman.
A note of thanks received on May 14th:
As you can see, there are
many in our church family
who are grieving the loss
of loved ones at this
time. Please keep each one
of these families in your
thoughts and prayers.

We made it!
Another school year
in the books and
summer fun ahead of
us!
This summer our
elementary classes
will be taking a break
from our usual
curriculum and spend
some time learning
the order of the
books of the Bible
with Minute to Win
It games! We will be
using fun games,
rhymes, and music
to help even our
kindergarteners and
first graders learn
some of the names
of the books of the
Bible. We will look at
the overarching
themes in each book
and apply that to
each lesson.
The preschoolers
will be studying one
of my favorite Bible
heroes, Moses! They
will start at the
beginning when baby
Moses was floated
down the Nile River
to escape the jealous
Egyptian Pharaoh.
Using a pretend fire,
preschoolers will
experience
the burning
bush and
learn about the 10
Commandments.
With dramatic play,
they will also learn
how Moses was able
to free the Israel-
ites from Egypt and
escape by parting
the Red Sea.
Isn’t it awesome
to see our little ones
discover the true
power of God?

Looking Back
Family First’s Cuatro de Mayo cookout was a blast! Our church family getting together for food and
fellowship is what it is all about. We have some excellent cooks in our church. Thank you to everyone who
brought a dish!
Thank you to Misty Hankinson for coming to rescue Mike and I when we were locked out of the church
while trying to set up (yes, I am to blame for that one). We are always guaranteed at least one good story
when our FUMC family is together. We hope to see you at our next event!
Mrs. Laura Mays is such a blessing to our
church. She spent extra time every Sunday
to prepare our sweet kiddos to sing on
Mother’s Day. They did a fantastic job!

Last week Society received a
call from a client requesting
immediate assistance. The lady had
been abused in a domestic situation
and her job did not pay enough to
support her rent. She was evicted
and moved, with her two sons, to a
motel until she could find other
living arrangements. Once she
found another place to live, we
were able to help with her first
month’s rent. We also networked
with The Food Basket to provide
her with some food. We will
continue to work with this client to
help try to create a stable situation
for her and her sons.
The Society of St. Stephen is a group of
people from the First United Methodist
Church, Chapelwood United Methodist
Church, and Christ Lutheran Church who
are committed to providing emergency or
temporary assistance to local people in
need.
Even though
there are more
opportunities for
employment in the
Brazosport area,
there continue to be
emergency situations
in which our help is needed. Rent
continues to be very high, and
many are not able to save for
unexpected situations.

Following most Sunday
worship services, the flower
committee takes the altar
flowers and divides them into
smaller arrangements, which
are then delivered to people
who are in the hospital, are
homebound, in a nursing
home, or others who may
need just a little extra TLC to
brighten their day.
If you have any vases to
donate, please bring them by
the church office.
For more information on the

volunteer for this ministry,
please contact Ethel Tracy or
the church office.

2018 Scholarship Presentation
May 6th was such a blessed day for our congregation and our graduates. Our
church presented the first ever Vergel and Anita Perry scholarships. Even better
was that Vergel and Anita’s daughter, Patricia Hatinger, was there to present
the scholarships. Recipients were (pictured below left to right) Becca Moore
(plans to attend Brazosport College with intent to transfer to Sam Houston State
University), Lauren Aycock (plans to attend Texas A&M University), Bryson
Wintjen (plans to attend Brazosport College with intent to transfer to Sam
Houston State University) and Seung Jang (plans to attend Baylor University).
These four students were selected because of their active roles in our youth
group and church, and they will each receive $500 from the Perry Endowment
fund to be used for tuition or fees. We are so grateful to the Perry family for
leaving such an important and lasting legacy for our youth and our church.
