About National Science Festival

Every year February 28 is celebrated as National Science Day to commemorate discovery of 'Raman Effect', which led Indian scientist CV Raman winning Noble Prize in Physics in 1930. Society of Young Biomedical Scientists has taken initiative to celebrate National Science Day as National Science Festival in association with All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Rishikesh, and College of Nursing, AIIMS, Rishikesh. National Science Day was initiated by Department of Science and Technology to trigger science popularization activities throughout country. Activities includes lectures, science quiz, science exhibition, extempore speech, debate&Run-for-Sciencewhich will be organized and revolve around central theme. Popularization awards will be awarded for outstanding efforts in area of science communication and popularization. Central theme for National Science Day 2020 is "Women in Science" to empower women in science and technology.

Science Activities

A. Science Quiz : Women in science

Categories: 1. Undergraduate Level 2. Postgraduate Level (PG, PhD Scholars/ Post-Doc/JR/SR)

Evaluation Criteria: Quiz competition will be conducted in threerounds: Preliminary Round: Candidates will be shortlisted on basis of MCQ based test Qualification Round: Six candidates will be selected for final round Final Round: Out of six best three candidates will be awarded.

B. Science Exhibition:

Models & Posters: « Role of women in Science« Drug & waste disposal « New Medical devices« Role of Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning in Healthcare« Pharmacogenomics « Antibiotic Resistance« Health care in remote areas« Alternative medicine: pros and cons« Incorporating Ancient Indian science into modern practice

Categories: 1. Junior Level: School students of standard 9 to 12 2. Senior level: College students including Medical, Dental, Paramedical, Pharmacy, Nursing etc.Evaluation criteria: Best three models &three posters will be selected for awards in each category.

C. Open House Extempore speech Open to all

An extempore speech is an impromptu speech, in which candidate is required to make on a topic given there and then. Topic of extempore speech will revolve around theme.

Evaluation criteria: Topic would be given 5minutes before speech. Three minutes will be allotted to speak.Best three speakers will be awarded.

D. Debate Current Policies of Indian Govt. for Empowerment of Women Scientists

Eligibility criteria: UG, PG, PhD students, Residents & faculty members are eligible.Best two speakers ( favour and against) will be awarded.

E. Run-for-Science Time : 7:00 to 8:00 am

F. Awards

Awards for contribution towards outstanding efforts in area of science communication and popularization:« Women Excellence Award« Dr C V Raman AwardEligible candidates can submit Self-nomination form. Age should not more then 35 years.Interested applicants can submit one page write-up (in MS Word format) for their contribution in science &technology before 20 Feb 2020 to email ID: [email protected] committee will assess gravity of contribution and results will announced on day of event.
