Special Free Will Offering Today Our parish began a cooperative youth ministry last fall in cooperation with the other parishes of Dunkirk. A number of area youth, including several from SEAS, will attend the Diocesan Youth Convention on the weekend of Feb. 28. This event can help to energize our young parishioners encouraging them to be active Catholics and bearers of the Gospel. You can help to defray the cost of registrations for this important event. Please do your best in today’s second collection.

The Gift of Forgiveness During Lent we have added two additional hours of confessions each Wednesday evening from 5 pm to 7 pm. Remember that The Light is On for You. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is a wonderful gift from the Risen Lord who offers us a new start and a brand new day.

Thank You! I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their kind words, cards, gifts and good wishes and prayers for my 86

th birthday. I thank God daily for the

blessings of all of you. Father Walter

Soup and Scripture Each Lenten Wednesday we hold a simple soup supper and bible discussion in the meeting room below the rectory beginning at 6:30 pm. This year we are discussing the booklet, “Luke, The Good News of God’s Mercy.” A few places are still available. Speak with Fr Dennis if you wish to attend.

Follow Jesus’ Lead this Lent Ryan and Olivia never hesitated when four brothers, all under the age of 10, needed a foster care placement. Their parents could no longer properly care for them and so, with support from Catholic Charities, this couple was able to open their home and eventually adopt all four children. The couple had previously adopted another child. Kyle, now 10, wrote in a letter, “When I found out that we would be adopted, I was very excited because I would have a forever family!” Help Catholic Charities continue to link loving families with children in need through our foster care and adoption programs. Give to the Catholic Charities 2016 Appeal and join us to “find good within” for the sake of the tens of thousands who benefit from Catholic Charities’ 70 programs and services. Find out more at ccwny.org or call 218-1400.

Stay warm, drive safe, Winter is here, Go to confession, and go sledding.

DUNKIRK, NEW YORK February 20/21stth, 2016

Survey Response Thank you to all of you who took the time to respond to the parish survey that was handed out in January. The parish council has had time to look over the results and begin to think of ways to respond to some of the issues raised. One of the themes was more reverence around the altar. Consequently, the altar servers will meet and update their training. There was a call for more diversity of people on the altar when it comes to Eucharistic Ministers. If anyone thinks this is something he or she could do, please speak with Fr. Dennis. Training is available. Extra help in any area of liturgy is greatly appreciated. One of the major themes from the responses was the lack of young people attending Mass and getting involved. The parish council is open to any suggestions of how to remedy this situation. In addition, involvement in various parish ministries is always needed, please come forward if there is something you could volunteer for or a ministry you would like to start. Don’t be shy; our parish needs your help and your involvement if we want to continue into the future.

Lenten Opportunity- Friday March 11, at 5:15- Special Presentation- Peter Santandreu, Christ the King Seminary, will offer a presentation called "Behold the Wood of the Cross" based on the twelfth station-Jesus dies on the cross. The topic looks at the development of crucifixion imagery in western art, beginning with the first crucifixion image and extending to the 21st century. We will explore how artists from different periods and locations have dealt with the reality of the crucifixion. This Lenten spiritual reflection will follow directly after the weekly Stations of the Cross at 4:30. After the presentation there will be a social with coffee and tea. Guests will have an opportunity to meet and greet Peter Santandreu. This will be held in the Adoration room. Please invite family and friends to attend with you.

Called to be a Deacon?? If you are an active Catholic man between the ages of 30 and 55, come learn about the ordained ministry of the Permanent Deaconate. You are invited to attend one of the following sessions. Attendance at one of these sessions is required by you and your wife for consideration for the inquiry class in the fall of 2016. The sessions will be held at Christ the King Seminary on March 5, April 2, and April 30, all at 9 a.m. Prior Registration is required. For preregistration and further information, contact Deacon Richard Stature 716-542-4233 or [email protected].
