“ART AND MUSIC” Comenius Project 2012-2014 ITALY- TURKEY & CATALONIA 1. INTRODUCTION Our Comenius project name is: “Art and Music”. The main target is sharing how music and art are developed at in our schools. The participant countries are: Turkey, Italy and Spain (Catalonia). Our educational project will last for two years (2012-2014) English is the communication language. Catalonia is the coordinator country. Our main objectives are: - Promoting an intercultural dialogue through school partnership in Europe - Understanding the importance of learning English - Learning from other cultures - Sharing a common language by means of intercultural activities and educational experiences - Using ICT as a pedagogical support - Motivating the students’ interest in learning and expanding their lingüístic abilities - Integrating diferent cultures through innovative educational materials We’ve just finished our first Comenius project year, and We can say that it’s a great experience for our pupils and teachers. We know information about Italy, Turkey and Catalonia. We’re developing computer skills. We share teaching and learning experiences. Our students are more motivated… We have created a joint contribution from the different schools working together. The exchange of information is through a common website (our blog), e-mails, videos, power point presentations, CD-roms and meetings in the different countries.. We realise the importance of learning English and we feel like a big family, an European family.

1. INTRODUCTION

Our Comenius project name is: “Art and Music”. The main target is sharing how music

and art are developed at in our schools.

The participant countries are: Turkey, Italy and Spain (Catalonia).

Our educational project will last for two years (2012-2014)

English is the communication language.

Catalonia is the coordinator country.

Our main objectives are:

- Promoting an intercultural dialogue through school partnership in Europe

- Understanding the importance of learning English

- Learning from other cultures

- Sharing a common language by means of intercultural activities and educational

We’ve just finished our first Comenius project year, and We can say that it’s a great

experience for our pupils and teachers.

2. FIRST MEETING:

Last year 2011-2012 We went to Rosignano Solvay in Italy to do the preparatory visit in

Italy.

The countries that we met were: France, Italy and Spain and Turkey couldn’t come but

they were all the time in contact with us.

In this meeting we talked about the activities and the agreements that we had to follow

all in order to carry out our Comenius Project.

We couldn’t visit Italian schools because it was snowing, and the schools were closed.

Because of that, all the meetings were in the hotel.

3. FRENCH MEETING

Catalonia

After a preparatory phase, we started the first meeting where we start to exchange

opinions and reviews of our first tasks.

It was the first meeting where we were all teams: four teams and full of allusions and a

desire to work. The first impressions were a little confused, because unfortunately, the

French team could not continue with the project. After a first day full of doubts and

acquaintances, the rest of the week passed between people who want to learn about

other ways to do, many curiosities to discover, a host team organized outings,

meetings with parents, student exchange, parties, meeting times to discuss the

activities to do, dinners outside of school hours where all the teams took this

opportunity to grow as a teacher and make the project succeed.

Involving in an admirable project and working with honourable teams as all of you really

appreciates us and gives courage to realize the objectives of the Project itself. To talk

about the French meeting, we had opportunities to get know each other and our

dreams to come true. Despite French Team not joining in the Project, they showed

kindness welcoming us more than they could do. We were appreciated to know them

and their school life and witness their lifestyles in their homeland. As for our students,

they had unforgettable moments, having great experiences with different families,

learning about the outer world they are not familiar with. We are sure that our students

will benefit from this visit and this will remain in their minds for a long time.

4. MEETING IN DÖRTYOL, TURKEY

The second meeting of our Comenius Project took place in Dörtyol, Turkey from April

22nd to April the 27th.

The main aim for this meeting was assessment. We had been working the whole

accademic year and it was time to assess the activities we had already done, see the

outcomes and planify the activities to do for the first term of next year (September-

December 2013).

Turkish, Italian and Catalan team met one each other in Turkey and did a very good

job.

It was a very good chance to meet teachers from different countries and to exchange

experiences of our common job.

We visited Dörtyol Atatürk Ilkogretim Okulu (Hatay), we met the teachers and the

students. The children had the opportunity to practice their English asking and

answering questions and exchange opinions with us.

ful shows they had prepared to

welcome us.They were fantastic

Parents cooked delicious and ty-

pical Turkish dishes for us.

We visited very interesting and beautiful places in Capadoccia: Derinkuyu, Göreme,

Ürgüp, Avanos...

We went to Antakya and visited the fabulous Archeology Museum, we did a tour in

Long Bazaar and visited Samandag, Harbiye and other beautiful places.

And the most important thing is that we spent a very good time with our new friends

from Italy and Turkey.

Next meeting in Catalonia: looking forward to see y ou again!!!

As for the Turkey visit, We were delighted to host our partners and tried our

best to make themselves at home. We desired them to leave here gladly and wishing

to come here again. The advantage of the visit also reflected on our school staff and

students. They got the chance of meeting people from different cultures and learned

about the things they wondered.

We are expecting the results of the Project to reveal its pros encourage all of

us to work harder.

5. ACTIVITIES

We have worked the European map, our Comenius countries: Italy, Turkey and

Catalonia (Spain), its capitals, flags and school cities.

Every country has got a mascote and we have made a logo with our mascotes

From Turkey:

We know our schools. Catalonia has shown it through the Glogster, in the ICT

classes.

Two dictionaries: Greetings and instruments in English, Italian, Turkish and Catalan

- Every country shows its cities: OUR CITY

Catalonia shows its city Reus through a power point with the following information:

- European map

- Our location

- Important people in the history: Antoni Gaudí i Cornet (architect, leader of the

Catalan Modernism), Prim General (military governor and politician) and Marià

Fotuny (painter)

- Important places like Plaça Mercadal and Plaça Prim

- Important theatres (Fortuny and Bartrina)

- Important places: Mercadal Square (It’s our Town Hall), Prim Square (the

central square of our city, there’s a General Prim monument), Prioral Sant Pere

and Sant Jordi Park.

- Food (coca amb cireres, pa amb tomaquet, menjar blanc and all i oli

- Castiglioncello: sea landscape. Leghorn and Amadeo Modigliani, a famous

painter from Leghorn with some of his paintings and his sculptures.

- The hill countries: Rosignano Maritimo, Castelnuovo, Gabbro, Nibbiaia and flora

and fauna.

- Sea countries: Vada, Castiglioncello

Turkey shows its territory with some videos, where we can see the orange trees, the

different fruits ,the sea and the village.

MUSICAL ACTIVITIES

AUDITIONS: The first activity about music was to share traditional or known songs from our countries. From Catalonia we listened to: Joan Manel Serrat (Songs: De vez en cuando, Mediterraneo and Paraules d’Amor), and also the group “Els Pets” (Songs: Bon dia, Descafeïnat and S’ha acabat)

The second activity was to show the different instruments that our students learn at schools. Catalonia shows through a video how some students performed the song “Rolling in the Deep” with flute, ukele, piano, xylophones and percussion.

Turkey shows the different instruments that children play at school in a video. Italy shows “The sound game”, ethnic music with percussion instruments.

And the last and third activity has been to share maternal songs of each territory. From Catalonia we have listened to these songs: Tanca els ulls, La mare t’estima and Bona nit. From Italy we listened to “La vendemmia” and “Il grillo e la formica”, two traditional tuscan songs. From Turkey we listened to some children singing some maternal songs.

6. NEXT MEETING : IN CATALONIA

Next meeting will be in Reus (Catalonia), from 17th to 23rd November 2013.

We have chosen this week because in our school we celebrate the music patroness,

Saint’s Cecilia, 22nd November.

We love music and we show different activities and songs that our students have

worked.

This year will be special for us, because we’ll show our work to our European partners.

Our pupils are excited about this meeting in our school. And the 6th level students that

leave the school this year, would like to meet Italian and Turkish teachers.

We’ll also talk about the activities we’re going to do until the end of our project.
