Greetings to everyone who is, or has been supporting or helping our school
ANZAC Commemorations Congratulations everyone, for the wonderful ANZAC
commemorations last week. All week we enjoyed an array of
activities to highlight the sacrifice of our servicemen and
women for the last century.
I’d like to make special mention of Mr Anderson, who as
leader of social science studies in the school, organised and
coordinated all these events and helpers. Well done indeed Mr
Anderson.
As well a big thank you to…..
Simon & Dale Ryburn who lent us their building free of
charge for a month. (The community is reminded, the
building is up for lease – if interested, contact the Ryburns).
The Came and McPherson families who set up the art display
including distributing art to Wellsford businesses, opening
the art display to the public over a three week period,
organising the ANZAC breakfast, taking the art display
down, collecting in all of the artwork from the businesses.
A&P Society and Lynette Gubb – for the use of their display
boards;
Heather Deans – for the beautiful artworks she helped the
children create;
Wellsford War Memorial Library staff – supporting our art
display and lending us their urns;
Jo and Jason Warahi – for painting the amazing signage and
helping with the art display;
Sarah Walsh and Mike Lindsay - helped put up signs and
delivered BBQ for the breakfast;
Sandy Shaw – lent us some extra items for the art display and
breakfast;
Danny & Karen Pivac – supplied a free power source for the
breakfast.
And the many parents who made sure their children were up
early and ready to lay a wreath or read a poem.
This is another example of the wonderful community support
Wellsford School receives.
Y3-4 and Y5-6 RIPPA Our Yr3 - 4 and Yr5 - 6 RIPPA Teams are training hard for
their tournament to be held on the 11th
May. Please check
with your child about whether they are in the team or not, and
keep up to date with any newsletters about the trip. Good
luck team – play to your potential, and let’s see what
happens.

Education Tips for Parents Homework is far more effective
when ….
The learner can spend time along
with ideas
The learner takes charge
A regular routine is established
Parents show support and
encouragement
What should be set?
The most appropriate homework
….
Is connected to class work
Is set on a regular basis
Is expected in at a clear time
Has a clear expectation of time to be
spent
Has clear goals
Is checked/marked
Is appropriate to the student’s ability
Has variety
Where? The best place to study is in a room
with:
A table and chair, good light, clean,
fresh air
No loud noises or distracting
movement
All the necessary equipment at
hand
There is no such thing as no
homework When there is no homework set from
the teacher there is the chance for the
student to take charge of the learning.
The focus may be on reading, writing,
or word processing skills, or on
improving any skills which needs
attention.
Coming Up: 5th
May – Team 1 Trip to the
Stardome.
11th
May – Yr 3-4 and Yr5-6

SCHOOL
SUPPORT
TEAM
Naming your child’s uniform is important because of the large quantity
of lost property at School; if it is unnamed it can’t be returned!
Clever Endeavours on Workers Road offers an embroidery service at
$5/garment. Another option is Name It Labels. You can order these iron-
on or sew-on labels online. This earns the School Support Team a 15%
donation, and you save 5% on your order – but you must enter the coupon
code “WELLSFORD” at checkout.
Any uniform items needing to be repaired may be left at the school office in a named bag. A reminder that the Uniform Shop is open each Tuesday 8.30-9.30am.
HEAD LICE are forever on the
rampage! Please check your children
regularly and treat when necessary. We are
in the process of obtaining some more
shampoo so ask at the office if you would
like some. Thank you.

WELLSFORD NETBALL CLUB Is your Year 1-2 child interested in trying out netball this year? There
is a fun programme run by the Netball Rodney Centre on Saturday mornings
for this age group. It focusses on teaching basic skills by playing fun games.
Last year was our first time trying it out and this year it is back – better
than ever! Come along to a free workshop to learn everything you need to
know on Saturday 9th May, at the centennial park courts. (It is recommended
not to bring your littlies along to this because it is 90 mins long, but if you
have no choice that is fine) Fees are just $20 for the season.
Any questions, or to register your child please contact Steph on 021-913-912. Also for Years 3-4: There will be a Taster Day for the new Year 3 and 4 initiative, on May 2nd at the centennial park courts,
starts 11am. Followed by the free workshop later that day 1.00pm - 2.30pm.
The workshop is your best chance to learn all you need to know about how the
programme will run this year. (Again it is recommended not to bring your
littlies along to this because it is 90 mins long, but of course if you have no
other option that is fine!) For the competition teams, your first grading
game is coming up Saturday 2 May.
