Anyone wishing to gain entry to the building must ring the door bell and present a valid identification. Upon entry you will need to keep your identification out to be scanned into our raptor system. In order for your child to be dismissed, the person at the school must be listed on their emergency card as a contact. If the person is not listed, access to the student will be denied.

Language Arts is offered at two levels:o Advanced

Social Studies & Science are heterogeneously

grouped (mixed academic abilities) per AACPS

Classes are approximately 50 minutes.

Students are given 25 minutes for Lunch.

Students have 4 minutes between classes.

All 6th graders wait in the cafeteria in the morning

and are dismissed to go to their lockers and SOAR.

Bus dismissal is at 3:05; car riders, walkers/bike

riders 3:15 p.m.

School lunch is $3.00. Parents can add money

onto a student’s account (MyPaymentsPlus.com) at

any time during the year.

TLO’s (extra help sessions)

o Tuesdays after school

o Redo assignments, get extra help, and take

missed quizzes or tests

Clubs

o Thursdays after school

o Activity busses are available for students

participating in after school activities, whom

would normally ride the bus.

Get plenty of sleep.

Complete and turn in homework on time!

Use your agenda book to write down homework assignments, upcoming tests/quizzes, and projects.

Utilize your red take home folder to assist with organization of papers that need to travel to and from school.

Get extra help when needed

o TLO sessions on Tuesdays after school

o SOAR

Get involved in extracurricular activities and clubs.

Manage your time.

Maintain an organized binder.

Attend school on time every day.

Focus and pay attention in class.

Take good notes.

Review your notes every evening even if you don’t

have homework.

ASK QUESTIONS WHEN YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!

Create daily routines o Check the agenda book and homework folder daily

o Create a daily routine when your child comes home from school (ex. snack, homework, free time)

o Provide a space for your child to complete homework that has all of their required materials

Communicate with teachers (e-mail), school counselor, and/or AP as appropriate

Parent Connect website – check students’ grades on an electronic gradebook

Stay informed as to what is occurring at CMS by reading the weekly blast from your child’s team and any e-mail communication that comes from the school/Principal
