It is argued that in modern time, the modern progress should be given priority over the conservation of old, traditional buildings and monuments. As far as i am concerned, i take issue with this statement. Although at the meantime, land is precious assets for numerous purposes, it is unreasonable for substituting historic buildings by new ones serving such purposes. To begin with, it is an in disputable fact that, today, human-being has witnessed a booming development in all aspects of society, from education, technology to healthcare system. All of those fields need to be furthered more. And in order to undertake that desire, one of the most important factor is land. The main reason for this is that if we want to prosper those fields, apart from improve technologies and the capacity of employees, we also need to broaden the operation by enlarging the space for them. While today, because of the overpopulation, the amount of available land is scanty, many people advocate that because old buildings today no longer serve any practical purposes, they should be replaced by new ones with more up-to-date tasks.Nonetheless, it is more important to remember that although historic buildings and monuments now rarely contribute to the progress of any fields, they remain play an important role in the development of whole society. Those buildings are image of each city, reflecting the traditional characteristics of each region they located in. They make those areas become well-known, even all over the world. Furthermore, thanks to those traditional buildings, current generation and the next ones could understand about the history of their city, their country, how their ancestor lived, how their appreciated the world surrounding them. Without such vital buildings, the young would know little about their own area, and like a tree can not grow without its root, we can not hope about the thriving of society.Take Paris for example. Now it is the icon of fashion in the world, although Paris now has changed significantly over the past decades in order to adapt with its stature, it remains keeping traditional values including traditional, old buildings. When we travel to Paris, apart from many ultra-modern skyscrappers, we could also enjoy the beauty of numerous hoary buildings which have existed for centuries. No matter how prosperous Paris is, it still retains its traditional ethos, and it is one pivotal reason explaining how Paris attracts many travellers from all nations. After discussing all the above-mentioned points, it could be reiterated that no matter how cities develop, the preservation of old buildings need to be respected. Those building contains traditional and cultural values and once such values lost, they will never come back.
