A wife, mother, grandmother and Lola, great-grand- mother and a great-great-grand- mother, too. This legacy of love and laughter is an afterglow we have from you. Strangers in street fairs, con- certs, and favorite places, as well, Would stop us in passing with the stories of you they tell! It’s hard for us to celebrate each holiday. Daddy, especially, without his partner to dance with or play. You cared and loved each of us with all of your heart. You worried and you prayed for us whenever we were apart. You are a ray of sunshine we take with us everywhere we go. You are in our hearts and daily lives more than we even know. Dahil Sa Iyo, we have your trea- sured keepsakes, mementos and an altar. With every memory a smile fol- lows, and then the tears flow with- out falter. Forever in our hearts, Mami! We all miss your smiling face and red lipstick saying “keep on dancing ‘cuz that’s what keeps us strong, healthy and happy.” Save us a spot at God’s mahjong table. Until we meet again, Mahal Kita. — Your loving family Jane Fenstermaker, 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2018, at Park Bridge Wellness Center. Jane was the second child born to Elsye (Gray) and Herbert Leahy on March 18, 1920, in Pasadena, Calif. Jane attended Pasadena pub- lic schools and graduated high school in the spring of 1937. She and her older sister, Dorothy, left Pasadena to travel to Alameda where she eventually worked at the fountain in Longs Drugs on Park Street. It was there she met her future husband, Lester Fenstermaker, who was a regular at the fountain. They were mar- ried in March 1941 and remained happily married until Lester’s death in April 1993. Jane never remarried. Jane worked for more than 20 years as the dental office manager for Sanford Plainfield, DDS, on Santa Clara Avenue. Jane was also Harry A. Mueller (formerly of Saratoga, Calif.) died on Feb. 2, 2018, in Hattiesburg, Miss. A Navy brat, a jokester, an inventor, an entrepreneur, a patriot, a Marine, a Stanford University fan and alum, a father, grandfather, great-grandfa- ther and husband, Harry was born in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 2, 1934, while his family was stationed there. His parents were Harry August Mueller Sr. and Esther Simon Mueller. The family moved to Alameda where Harry spent his youth and gradu- ated from Alameda High School. Guadalupe ‘Aday’ Oronos March 1, 1925 – Feb. 16, 2017 In Memorium Local Deaths Jane Fenstermaker 1920 – 2018 an avid Giants and 49ers fan, an expert bridge player, a walking crossword dictionary and also a great poker party hostess. She loved to entertain friends and family, especially her grandchil- dren. Jane was predeceased by her two siblings: Dorothy Leahy (Holstlaw) and Gerald Leahy. Jane is survived by her oldest son Gary Fenstermaker (Cathy). Her second son, Rick Fenstermaker (Eve), passed away in April 2012. She is also survived by grand- children Amy Fenstermaker (Bill), Meg Fenstermaker (Clifford), Peter Fenstermaker (Lyndsy), Blake Fenstermaker (Katie), Ross Fenstermaker (Lindsay) and Alyssa Fenstermaker. She is also survived by five great-grandchil- dren and many nieces and neph- ews. Jane shared a very special bond with Jerri Lee Fenstermaker (Charlie) from 1960 to the present and Jerri was with Jane during her final hours. At Jane’s request no services are being held. Contributions can be made in Jane’s memory to a charity of your choice. He then grad- uated from University of San Francisco and then Stanford University with a mas- ter’s degree. He believed our flag should be honored, so when he was in elemen- tary school, he was asked to carry the flag for the school convocation. However, he hid his shoes in a bush near the bus stop because he loved to go barefoot. When his parents saw him walking in with the flag barefooted, they were livid. His professional career in industri- al manufacturing engineering spanned more than 50 years. Starting at the Ampex Corporation in Redwood City, and then the Amdahl Corporation in Sunnyvale, where he worked as the director of manufacturing engineer- ing. He was later promoted to general manager of Amdahl Ireland and vice president of operations for Amdahl in the U.S., Italy and South Africa. His career continued with Trilogy, Harmon and Ramtek before moving his family to his wife’s fam- ily farm in Yorktown, Ind. He started a touch-screen computer company in Indiana. Later, he taught college- level mathematics and was asked to manage the facilities and the build- ing of additional campuses for Ivy Tech Community College. His associations and licenses included: United States Marine Corps (Reserve); California Registered Professional Engineer; President of International Lions Club, Cupertino; Toastmasters International; Elks; Advisory Board School of Business; San Jose State University (1984); Board Member, Irish-American Chamber of Commerce (2002); Adjunct Math Professor at Purdue University and Ivy Tech Community College; First Presbyterian Church, Muncie, Ind.; Board of Directors, Timberton Property Owners Assn. He was the glue that bound his family together. His wife, Kristin, who he met twice on a Pan Am flight from Switzerland to New York, then again from San Francisco to Dublin, Ireland, (God had a plan) and their daughter, Kami Bonner (Wes) of Sumrall, Miss., feel an empty spot in their lives. Harry had a son, Jeff Mueller (Lisa) and grandsons, Matt Mueller (Carly Griffith) of Morgan Hill and Scott Mueller (Lisa) of Livermore. His great-grandchildren: Presley, Hudson, Bailey and Brady really made him smile and laugh. Harry’s sweet sister Joan (Robert), of San Diego always enriched our lives. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 4901 Hardy St., Hattiesburg, MS 39402 this Saturday, Feb. 10. Visitation takes place at noon with a service at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Wounded Warrior Project. org, a nonprofit that helps veterans. Harry August Mueller F ebruary, already?! You would never think it was the shortest month of the year based on the Greater Alameda Business Association (GABA) schedule. First things first: We are looking for a part-time admininstrator. If you know someone who is interested in becoming an integral part of our exciting organization of who’s whos amongst the local independent business commu- nity, have them send an email to my attention at info@gaba online.org. They won’t regret it! And while we’re on the subject of exciting behind-the- scenes movers and shakers, you’ll be pleased to know that GABA’s Membership Co-Chair, Cheri Corfey of Zap Payroll, is enjoying our Renewal Membership Drive so much that she wants to share the Valentine’s Day love in the air by extending it to the end of the month! Be the GABA member to recruit the most new members in 2018, and win a year’s free membership! Second and third prizes are nothing to sneeze at: 10 or five tickets, respec- tively for the GABA raffle that benefits the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) or, if you prefer, drink tickets (perfect for sharing with new friends). Contact Cheri at (CCorfey@ ZapPayroll.com) for addi- tional details and the names of those you are referring, or renew your membership at www.gabaonline.org/join. As a reminder, becoming a GABA member brings with it fabulous advertising opportunities and discounts at right here in the Alameda Sun! So back to GABA’s business tasks at hand. n Keeping members apprised of local business matters: Lois Butler from the city’s Economic Development Department spoke at our January Mixer. She reminded members of the ongoing and improved Façade Grant Program (alamedaca.gov/busi- ness/façade-grant-program), and the importance of tak- ing the city’s Infrastructure Survey (alamedaca.gov/ JointheConversation). She also provided us a recap of the city’s recent Restaurant Week (AlamedaRestaurantWeek.com). Come hear the next update from Butler at GABA’s upcom- ing mixer on Thursday, Feb. 22. n Making a world-class transportation system a real- ity for Alameda business owners and residents: To this end GABA’s shuttle committee continues to work with our city transportation representatives Gail Payne and Jennifer Ott, who have provided us the resources of Transportation Guru Wendy Silvani. Yes, the same person largely responsible for launching the Emery Go-Round. Silvani will now be working with GABA on the shuttle exploration proj- ect. Our thanks to Mayor Trish Spencer and the City Council for giving staff this direction. Based on this most recent course of events, our Shuttle Committee Chair Tony Kuttner is scheduling a meeting with com- mittee members and Silvani to come up with a more fine-tuned way to proceed on the intra- city shuttle plan. We welcome Silvani’s expertise and subse- quent analysis, and are plan- ning to share the results of this meeting with members at the GABA dinner mixer on Thursday, March 29. n Fostering the future busi- ness leaders and entrepreneurs in the Alameda community: Join GABA for the annual pre- sentation of our raffle proceeds to AEF at our next mixer on Feb. 22 at the Alameda Naval Air Museum, 2151 Ferry Point. Co-hosts for February’s mixer are Kelly Lux of State Farm Insurance and Cheri Corfey of Zap Payroll; an enjoyable time is a certainty! (Remember to bring a raffle prize, as we need to fill the coffers back up for next year’s donation to AEF.) Looking forward to seeing you on the 22. — Dania

Happy 2015, everybody! We in the Greater Alameda Business

Association haven’t made any life-changing resolutions — we’re still not vegans, and GABA is not going to pony up for a gym member-ship — but we are resolved to continue our commitment to serving and strengthening our business community.

And how will we be doing that? Glad you asked.

EventsPractically every month,

we offer members and guests the opportunity to network with business own-ers and neighbors. Often we include the opportunity to hear business experts and

community leaders share valuable information.

The 2015 GABA calen-dar starts with our mixer at Subpar Miniature Golf on Thursday, Jan. 29, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Subpar is located at 1511 Park St.

At the end of February, we’ll be at Alameda Landing to get an update from Catellus on progress at the site, and four weeks later in March we’ll be enjoying a sit-down dinner at Trabocco.

ResourcesWe’ve been making prog-

ress with our website, www.gabaonline.org and with our social media presence. You can now pay your $85 annual dues online (click on the

“Join GABA” link), and when you do, you’ll be automati-cally added to our business directory.

You’ll also be able to join or renew membership by downloading a form from the site and mailing us a check, or pay in per-son by check or credit card at one of our events or by coming to our office hours at the Bank of Marin, South Shore branch, the first and

third Wednesday of every month.

We’re also fine-tuning our Facebook presence. The GABA Facebook Group is changing from an open group to one available only to paid GABA members, and we’ve added a GABA Facebook Page (Like us now!) that we’ll use for official GABA news and postings.

AdvocacyIf GABA does have an

official resolution this year, it’s to speak out louder about issues and ideas that help our community. Specifically, we’ve started working to cre-ate a free shuttle service in Alameda that will not only bring riders to and from BART stations, but also serve all our residential and com-mercial neighborhoods.

We welcome any ideas you may have about a shuttle,

and of course we more than welcome anyone who wants to join us in this effort. Just drop us a line at [email protected].

INSERTSINSERTSINSERTSINSERTS

It’s easier than you think to have something delivered to each door in Alameda. The Alameda Sun delivery service provides many options for inserting material into the Alameda Sun for delivery each Thursday.

Potential insertions can be targeted at a particular neighborhood. Choose Bay Farm, East End, South Shore, Central Main or West End for targeted delivery. Got a flyer printed? Good, now get it out. Inserts run just $50 per thou-sand. (Printing not included.) Call now: (510) 263-1470.

The dog days of summer may be upon us but our Greater Alameda Business

Association (GABA) members are quite active like Sirius the Dog Star rising! To start the dog days, we celebrated the installation of our newest board members. The Installation was held on the outdoor terrace of Giussepe Naccarelli’s Trabocco, the perfect setting for the intimate event. Members and guests were treated to wonder-ful Italian food and hospitality.

Thank you, Giussepe, for making it an evening to remem-ber! To those of you who were

unable to make the event, please extend a warm welcome to our energetic and accomplished new board members: Bob Arzt of Polaris One, Cheri Corfey of Zap Payroll, Kelly Lux of Kelly Lux Insurance and Elizabeth McGovern of McGovern Escrow Services. Their collective busi-ness savvy is sure to inspire our organization and, in addition, our community.

Working Toward an Alameda Shuttle

As we enter our new year I am pleased to report that the GABA board of directors has

committed itself to contin-ued advocacy for an Alameda shuttle. Headlines about parking restrictions near ferry terminals serve as another reminder of some of the transportation chal-lenges our Island City faces.

Let’s remember our historic train stations, the roots of our city’s transportation system that enabled its residents to efficiently crisscross our Island. It moved thousands of people daily. The stations gave rise to small commercial and residen-tial districts along Lincoln and Encinal avenues.

As they say, what’s old is new again, so it befits our group of independent small business owners to take up the cause to bring a modern-day streetcar system back to the Island in the form of the Alameda shuttle.

Foodware SurveyAs stewards of our commu-

nity, GABA welcomes opportuni-ties to partner with the city to make Alameda a better place to live and work. We have been asked for your input on the City Council’s adoption of a revised Alameda Municipal Code section on disposable foodware. This will be an agenda Item at the City Council’s Sept. 19 meeting. The revised ordinance would require food vendors

a) to provide straws to customers only upon the cus-tomer’s request, and

b) to use reusable, recy-clable, or compostable to-go foodware.

Please check your inboxes for a survey on this proposed code revision; your feedback matters! If you are not yet a

GABA member you may take the online city survey at www.peak democracy.com/5251.

organization and attend our next GABA mixer on Thursday, Aug. 31, at AEC Living - The Lodge at 801 Island Dr. from 5:30 to 7 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there!

One year ago today, God saw you weak and suf-fering and took it away.

A wife, m o t h e r , grandmother and Lola, great-grand-mother and a great-great-grand-mother, too.

This legacy of love and laughter is an afterglow we have from you.

Strangers in street fairs, con-certs, and favorite places, as well,

Would stop us in passing with the stories of you they tell!

Dahil Sa Iyo, we have your trea-sured keepsakes, mementos and an altar.

With every memory a smile fol-lows, and then the tears flow with-out falter.

Forever in our hearts, Mami! We all miss your smiling face and red lipstick saying “keep on dancing ‘cuz that’s what keeps us strong, healthy and happy.”

Save us a spot at God’s mahjong table. Until we meet again, Mahal Kita.

Jane Fenstermaker, 97, passed away peacefully on Jan. 12, 2018, at Park Bridge Wellness Center. Jane was the second child born to Elsye (Gray) and Herbert Leahy on March 18, 1920, in Pasadena, Calif.

Jane attended Pasadena pub-lic schools and graduated high school in the spring of 1937. She and her older sister, Dorothy, left Pasadena to travel to Alameda where she eventually worked

at the fountain in Longs Drugs on Park Street. It was there she met her future husband, Lester Fenstermaker, who was a regular at the fountain. They were mar-ried in March 1941 and remained happily married until Lester’s death in April 1993. Jane never remarried.

Jane worked for more than 20 years as the dental office manager for Sanford Plainfield, DDS, on Santa Clara Avenue. Jane was also

Harry A. Mueller (formerly of Saratoga, Calif.) died on Feb. 2, 2018, in Hattiesburg, Miss. A Navy brat, a jokester, an inventor, an entrepreneur, a patriot, a Marine, a Stanford University fan and alum, a father, grandfather, great-grandfa-ther and husband, Harry was born in Norfolk, Va., on Oct. 2, 1934, while his family was stationed there.

His parents were Harry August Mueller Sr. and Esther Simon Mueller. The family moved to Alameda where Harry spent his youth and gradu-ated from Alameda High School.

Jane Fenstermaker 1920 – 2018

an avid Giants and 49ers fan, an expert bridge player, a walking crossword dictionary and also a great poker party hostess. She loved to entertain friends and family, especially her grandchil-dren.

She is also survived by grand-children Amy Fenstermaker (Bill), Meg Fenstermaker (Clifford),

Peter Fenstermaker (Lyndsy), Blake Fenstermaker (Katie), Ross Fenstermaker (Lindsay) and Alyssa Fenstermaker. She is also survived by five great-grandchil-dren and many nieces and neph-ews.

Jane shared a very special bond with Jerri Lee Fenstermaker (Charlie) from 1960 to the present and Jerri was with Jane during her final hours.

At Jane’s request no services are being held.

Contributions can be made in Jane’s memory to a charity of your choice.

He then grad-uated from University of San Francisco and then S t a n f o r d U n i v e r s i t y with a mas-ter’s degree.

He believed our flag should be honored, so when he was in elemen-tary school, he was asked to carry the flag for the school convocation. However, he hid his shoes in a bush near the bus stop because he loved to go barefoot. When his parents saw him walking in with the flag barefooted, they were livid.

His professional career in industri-al manufacturing engineering spanned more than 50 years. Starting at the Ampex Corporation in Redwood City, and then the Amdahl Corporation in Sunnyvale, where he worked as the director of manufacturing engineer-ing. He was later promoted to general manager of Amdahl Ireland and vice president of operations for Amdahl in the U.S., Italy and South Africa.

His career continued with Trilogy, Harmon and Ramtek before moving his family to his wife’s fam-ily farm in Yorktown, Ind. He started a touch-screen computer company in Indiana. Later, he taught college-level mathematics and was asked to manage the facilities and the build-ing of additional campuses for Ivy Tech Community College.

February, already?! You would never think it was the shortest month of the year

based on the Greater Alameda Business Association (GABA) schedule. First things first:

We are looking for a part-time admininstrator. If you know someone who is interested in becoming an integral part of our exciting organization of who’s whos amongst the local

independent business commu-nity, have them send an email to my attention at info@gaba online.org. They won’t regret it!

And while we’re on the subject of exciting behind-the-scenes movers and shakers, you’ll be pleased to know that GABA’s Membership Co-Chair, Cheri Corfey of Zap Payroll, is enjoying our Renewal Membership Drive so much that she wants to share the Valentine’s Day love in the air by extending it to the end of the month!

Be the GABA member to recruit the most new members in 2018, and win a year’s free membership! Second and third prizes are nothing to sneeze at: 10 or five tickets, respec-tively for the GABA raffle that benefits the Alameda Education Foundation (AEF) or, if you prefer, drink tickets (perfect for sharing with new friends). Contact Cheri at ([email protected]) for addi-tional details and the names of those you are referring, or renew your membership at www.gabaonline.org/join. As a reminder, becoming a GABA member brings with it fabulous

advertising opportunities and discounts at right here in the Alameda Sun!

So back to GABA’s business tasks at hand.

n Keeping members apprised of local business matters: Lois Butler from the city’s Economic Development Department spoke at our January Mixer. She reminded members of the ongoing and improved Façade Grant Program (alamedaca.gov/busi-ness/façade-grant-program), and the importance of tak-ing the city’s Infrastructure Survey (alamedaca.gov/JointheConversation). She also provided us a recap of the city’s recent Restaurant Week (AlamedaRestaurantWeek.com). Come hear the next update from Butler at GABA’s upcom-ing mixer on Thursday, Feb. 22.

n Making a world-class transportation system a real-ity for Alameda business owners and residents: To this end GABA’s shuttle committee continues to work with our city transportation representatives Gail Payne and Jennifer Ott, who have provided us the resources of Transportation Guru Wendy

Silvani. Yes, the same person largely responsible for launching the Emery Go-Round. Silvani will now be working with GABA on the shuttle exploration proj-ect. Our thanks to Mayor Trish Spencer and the City Council for giving staff this direction.

Based on this most recent course of events, our Shuttle Committee Chair Tony Kuttner is scheduling a meeting with com-mittee members and Silvani to come up with a more fine-tuned way to proceed on the intra-city shuttle plan. We welcome Silvani’s expertise and subse-quent analysis, and are plan-ning to share the results of this meeting with members at the GABA dinner mixer on Thursday, March 29.

n Fostering the future busi-ness leaders and entrepreneurs in the Alameda community: Join GABA for the annual pre-sentation of our raffle proceeds to AEF at our next mixer on Feb.
