FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Greetings everyone.

I hope this week’s newsletter finds you well and enjoying the cooler weather.

It has been a wonderfully rich and exciting fortnight at Antonio full of surprises, learning, celebrations, reflection and new opportunities.

I’m looking forward to assembly tomorrow, to learn more about the great things happening and hop you can join us.

Principal Tour

On Wednesday 27th from 9.30-10.30am we will be hosting a Principal Tour for families interested in learning about the amazing teaching and learning program and facilities we have at Antonio. If you have any families who are considering school options, please invite them to make contact with the front office to register for this tour.

I have been speaking to a number of our senior students about the things to include on a tour.

Hamish and Nadine, “See the way the teachers help everyone at Antonio.”

Adison, “Talk about and see how at Antonio everyone is accepting and welcoming.”

Erin, “We have lots of great curriculum activities like Art, Music and Italian. Everyone is welcome.”

Alex, “We have very kind teachers and our classrooms are spick and span. We have a great community with great community celebrations like Pancake Day.”

Kaelan, “We do lots of hands on learning in great learning environments.”

Pupil Free Day Reminder – Friday 12th April

On Friday 12th April, the final day of Term 1, we will have a pupil free day for staff to engage in the Aboriginal Cultural Competency Workshop facilitated by Catholic Education SA staff. This workshop is a requirement for all school staff across our system and will enrich the teaching and learning programs of all age groups at Antonio.

Current Nature Play Space Happenings

While we are in the process of developing nature play spaces to be developed in the near future, many children have been accessing the yard by the vegetable garden to engage in nature play activities. We have closed this area at the moment, to review how this space is being used, what resources will support ongoing constructive play and create a series of guidelines. Once these activities are completed the review will be published and shared with the community before nature play activities resume in the near future.

Using Pedestrian Crossings – Urgent Safety Reminder

To support ongoing safety, can you remind your children to proceed across all pedestrian crossings (including those with lights) only after looking both ways to ensure traffic has stopped. I am working with the local council to review the Bains Rd crossing to support ongoing pedestrian safety.

Front Car Park Co-operation

As you know, our front car park is divided into two spaces with the lower section set aside for staff and the upper section allocated for visitors, OSHC drop off/pick up, deliveries and a disability car park.

There are a number of our community members who access the disability car park and hold a current permit. Please respect these families by leaving this car park free.

There is also a designated ‘No Parking’ space at the rear of these car parks, under the shade of the large tree. This space allows cars to access the designated car parks safely and provides space for emergency vehicle access should this be required.

Thank you in anticipation of your co-operation in maintaining an organised, safe car park.

Illness at School

There has been a number of staff and children who have experienced chest and tummy illnesses recently. It would be great if we can all review our hand washing practices to help reduce the spread of such illnesses. We look forward to seeing children back at school and learning with their friends after fully recovering.

Mini Explorers Playgroup

Our Playgroup which runs from 10.00am – 12.00pm each Friday is a wonderful way for adults and children to learn and connect. Our playgroup members enjoy learning about themselves in connection with the world around them using all of their senses in wonderful outside and inside spaces. Be sure to spread the word and let your family friends know about this great program at Antonio.

Have a wonderful week ahead with your friends and family.
