Introduction

Plants playa vital role in curing various ail-ments of man. Being in association with plantsfor the long time, he started using them asfood, fuel etc. At the same time, he used plantsfor his own diseases and health. So, in therecent past, he used medicinal plants in vari-ous combinations or single plant as a drug tocure problems of central nervous system. Onlyduring 20th Century, scientists started screen-ing the natural products for various pharmaco-logical activities like antimicrobial activity andanalgesic activity etc.

The plants under study Delonix elata GambleandDelonix regia Raf are very good medicinalplants. Delonix elata Gamble is used inrheumatism and flatulence.'. Delonix regia Rafis known to contain lectins in it. 2. Delonixelata Gamble has shown very good anti in-flammatory activity, it is also known that itcontains biflavanoids like rutin, quercitin, 3-0-galactoside, which were isolated from waterextract', therefore here is an attempt to screen

ObservationsIn the present study of plants screened fortheir antimicrobial and analgesic activities. Theethanolic extract of Delonix elata and Delonixregia Raf. plant showed mild to marked antimi-crobial activity against all the tested mocrobes(Bacteria and fungi Viz. E. coli, S. aureus, P.vulgaris, Pseudomonas aurginosa and a fun-gus Aspergillus niger). The results have beencompared with standard drugs streptomycinand nystain.

The antibacterial activity of ethanolic leaf ex-tract of Delonix regia Raf. has showed inhibi-tory activity against all the bacteria tested.Whereas the leaf extract of Delonix elataGamble has shown moderate antibacterial

activity against S. aureus amd P. vulgaris whencompared to the activity of streptomycin (stand-ard). The antifungal activity of ethonolic ex-tract of Delonix elata Gamble showed mildinhibitory effect on the fungus A. Niger whereas the plant extract of Delonix regia Raf. hasshown very good inhibitory effect on A. nigeras compared to the nystatin (standard), thezone of inhibition is more than that of standardnystatin (Table-I).

The analgesic activity results indicate thatethonolic extract of Delonix elata Gamble andDelonix regia Raf at a concentration 200mg/kgbodyweight have shown good analgesic activ-ity after 60 minute of drug administration whencompared to the standard anal gin (Table 2).

ConclusionThe antimicro.bia! and analgesic activity of D.elata Gamble and D. regia Raf may be due tothe presence of the secondary metobolites likeflavonoids? and alkaloids" .Further, a detailed study on these plantsextracts, isolation of compounds which areresponsible for their antimocrobial andanalgesic activities from these plants and theirstructural elucidation are need of the situation.Acknowledgement:The authors are thankful to Dr..
