Dental Assistant Program
Dental Assisting 1 $ 250
Oral health and nutrition, dental charting, general anatomy and physiology, mouth disease, teeth functions , infection, ortho-dontics, periodontics, lab, x-ray history and precautions, safety, ethics and office management (Prereq: Adequate reading skills).

EMT—Basic $ 500
The EMT Course prepares students for the National Registry of
Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Exam . Offered n co-
ordination with AVROP EMT accredited Program.
The course teaches both didactic and hands on instruction in the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Certified EMT-Basic. Subjects include CPR, terminology, anatomy, life support, patient assessment, communicable diseases, and emergencies. EMT's may work on ambulances, in hospitals, for the fire depart-ments, law enforcement agencies, and in the military. EMT's provide treatment and transport to ill or injured patients. Uniform is required: Dark navy blue EMS or uniform pants ONLY, a white
polo shirt, and a solid black belt .
Pharmacy Technician Program
Introduction to procedures, operations, drugs, medications,
dosage forms/strengths, inventory control and assisting the
pharmacist. Externship opportunities available. This is a full-
year program from August through May.
Interested new applicants should visit or call the school to be
placed on the interest list. Students must attend an infor-
mation night in July 2017 and complete the application/
interview process to be approved for the program.
Uniform is required (white lab coat) .
This program meets the requirements for CA state certifica-
tion (HSD or equivalency is required for state certification).

Registration begins Monday, July 17, 2017 on a first-come, first-served basis during regu-lar office hours until classes are full or the sec-ond class meeting at the Lancaster main office at the above address.
Payment is due at time of registration (Cash, Credit Cards: VISA/MC/DISC—no personal checks).
Classes with insufficient enrollment will be cancelled and refunds will be issued in the same manner as paid.
Certificates are awarded upon suc-cessful completion of each course. Program completion certificates are awarded upon completion of the sequence of classes listed below.
All classes meet in Lancaster.
Registration fees does not include books. Books are available for pur-chase at the main office or can be purchased online.

Introduction to medical terminology using words, prefixes, suffixes,
combining forms, abbreviations and pronunciation. Anatomy in-
cludes body systems and structures. Recommended for all medical
classes.

Instruction and hands-on practice to acquire skills to assist physi-
cians. Includes vital signs, surgical procedures, medical office lab

to prepare students for the Medical Assistant Certification Exam.

Medical Assistant: Certification Exam
The computer-based state certification exam is proctored by the
Adult School through PearsonVue at least twice a year . Eligible
students must have recent work experience or recent formal
training in an approved MA program.
Applications and fees are submitted to CCBMA at least two
weeks before the scheduled testing date. Upon approval, stu-
dents can register with PearsonVue to take the test at AVAS.
Fee: $185 (Basic & two specialties) $145 (Basic & one specialty)

Electronic Medical Records
An electronic medical record is the computerized version of
the traditional chart. Electronic versions allow medical pro-
fessionals to zoom in on the precise information they need
to provide the best possible care to their patients. This
course will introduce students to the medical record for-
mats, numbering and filing systems, storage and retrieval
systems as well as legal requirements for maintain medical
records.

This course prepares the student to work as an entry-level
Patient Care Technician in a clinic, hospital, nursing home,
or long-term care facility. Students will learn to check vital
signs, administer CPR and First Aid, assist in medical exami-
nations, perform electrocardiograms (EKGs), perform basic
laboratory procedures and phlebotomy, as well as learn to
provide basic patient care including bathing, feeding, toi-
leting, and ambulating patients. Upon successful comple-
tion of the course, the student will
also be eligible to take the National
Health-career Association exam to
become a Certified Patient Care Tech-
nician (CPCT).
