Houston, the Astros got Verlander.

In a deal that went down tothe final minutes, perhaps seconds, before the MLB trade waiver deadline at midnight Thursday, the Astros swung a deal for Tigers ace Justin Verlander, the teams announced early Friday morning.

Houston, which did not makea big move before the July 31 trade deadline, will add the former Cy Young Award winner toits rotation and the American League’s winningest team.

The Tigers will get back atrio of prospects: pitcher Franklin Perez, outfielder Daz Cameron and catcher Jake Rogers. In addition to Verlander, the Astros will receive a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The move for Verlander fortifies the Astros’ pitching staff with an eye toward October as hewill slot in with Dallas Keuchel as aces atop the rotation.

The trade was a rollercoaster ride right before the deadline Thursday night, with the Detroit News initially reporting that the teams were“very close to finalizing” a dealfor Verlander.

Then the trade was reportedas “nixed,” with Verlander’s fullnotrade clause seen as a potential hangup.

But minutes after the calendar flipped to September, reports came out that the deal was done and Verlander was heading to Houston.

“He was a little reluctant andeventually made the right decision,” Astros owner Jim Cranetold MLB.com. “We thought the deal was dead. We triedpreviously. He’s a quality pitcher.”

Verlander, 34, is 108 with a3.82 ERA, 176 strikeouts and67 walks over 28 starts thisseason.

He played key parts in helping the Tigers reach the World Series in both 2006 and 2012.

Project Descriptions:On May 1, 2013, the Department made available for public review andcomment, an application for a freshwater wetland permit to convert a railcorridor into a multi-use greenway in Van Cortlandt Park by NYC Parks.Numerous comments were received and on September 23, 2013, theDepartment conducted a public hearing regarding the project duringwhich more comments were received. NYC Parks, in response to thosecomments, has redesigned the project and updated their applicationaccordingly. Revisions include: Prioritizing the alignment of the pavedtrail with the existing earthen path; reducing 5,624 linear feet of thepaved trail width to 8’; adding a drainage swale to 3,460 feet of the trail inareas where the trail is within 100 feet of the wetland; establishing avegetated buffer flanking both sides of paved trail along entire length oftrail; and adding three sections of concrete boardwalk totaling 194 linearfeet in areas where significant native tree roots exist – the boardwalk willbe installed using pier footings, which reduce the impact of theboardwalk to the trees and wetland. The redesign reduces site clearing by25%, excavation by 50% and retains and filters 100% of 2.9” rainfall event.Due to the initial level of interest in this project, the Department is re-noticing the redesign for comment.
