Anorexia in the U.S.Up to 24 Million people of all ages

and genders suffer from an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder) in the U.S. (The Renfrew Center Foundation for Eating Disorders, 2003).

An estimated 10-15% of people with anorexia or bulimia are male (Carlat, 1997).

20% of people suffering from anorexia will prematurely die from complications related to their eating disorder including suicide and heart problems (The Renfrew Center Foundation for Eating Disorders, 2003).

What is Anorexia Nervosa?

An eating disorder that causes people to obsess about their weight and the food they eat. (Mayo Clinic, 2012)

1. 15% below ideal body weight. Refusing to maintain a normal weight

2. Having an intense fear of gaining weight or becoming fat, even if underweight.

3. Amenorrhea or absence of menstruation (females)
