It is simple, yet we can make it so complicated. Jesus’ love was controversial for some people, because it was love without exclusion. To love as Jesus loved is to love those it is hard to love. This love ultimately led to Jesus’ death. Jesus loved sinners, tax collectors, prostitutes, people of other religions, the poor, the unwanted, the sick, the beggar, the leper. This love is too much for some Christians today also. It is hard to love the sinner or to love family members or friends who have hurt us. Yet this is the love that we are called to. Once we begin to accept that we are infinitely loved by God, it is like a domino effect where that love is poured outwards in our lives. We are part of this outpouring of God’s creative love and are called to bring this into places where there is none. In this way we are helping to heal, sustain and nourish this world. Let us hear those words of the Gospel more clearly today: ‘Just as I have loved you, you must also love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples.’ Let us dream of, and work towards, a world where this is a reality. ‘God has given us the power to create beauty, to make another smile, to be a healing presence in someone’s sorrow, to bring justice to the oppressed, to console those in difficulty, to bring peace and joy to others, to help those in need, to laugh and enjoy life, to do good and turn from evil, to forgive those who have hurt us, and, most of all, to love.’ Iris Perez Taken from Intercom Magazine

The Deep End: Love one another

‘Love one another’ is the basic principle of Christianity, to love as Jesus loved.

‘God has given us the power to create beauty, to make another smile, to be a healing presence in someone’s sorrow, to bring justice to the oppressed, to console those in difficulty, to bring peace and joy to others, to help those in need, to laugh and enjoy life, to do good and turn from evil, to forgive those who have hurt us, and, most of all, to love.’

The next meeting of St Joseph's Young Priests Society will take place on Tuesday 21 May @ 11.00 am. in the Parish Centre, Willbrook Road. The Rathfarnham Branch of the Society extends welcome and urgently requires new members to join. The principal aim of the Society is to pray for vocations to the priesthood which is a very urgent need at this time in our diocese. We also financially support students for priesthood both at home and abroad. At our monthly meeting we pray for vocations and reflect on the Eucharist. Please give consideration to coming to our monthly meeting. We thank all those who support the Societyand in particular those who attend Eucharistic Adoration. For further information please contact the Parish Office.

' The harvest is great but the labourers are few'

This weekend, 18/19 May, for the first time we are holding a new collection which will be called the Ministry Sunday Collection.

This new annual collection will replace the Share Collection and will be devoted to support the building up of new forms of lay ministry in our parishes. The work of spreading the Gospel of Jesus in our changing religious culture will require more lay men and women working in various ways alongside our priests at the heart of parish communities.

The Ministry Sunday Collection is about ensuring that we will have the people we need - men and women who will be to the fore in making our parishes vibrant faith communities into the future.

While many of those involved will be volunteers, we will have to equip and train leaders and provide facilities for formation. We want to work towards a situation where all parishes in this Archdiocese benefit from their gifts and expertise. The new collection is one-step in that process.

Renewal

of the

Parish Family Offering It has been very many years since the Parish Family Offering has been updated. The Parish Family Offering Collection is the only source of income that goes to pay for the day to day running costs of the parish and makes provision for future parish development.

Last week you will have received a brochure outlining the importance of the Parish Family Offering Collection in the life of the parish. If you did not receive a brochure they are available at the back of the Church or in the Sacristy.

We take this opportunity to thank all parishioners that have been supportive of the parish throughout the years and particularly during the recent renovations of the church and the restoration of our stained-glass windows, which are still a work in progress.

For all of this we are very grateful.

We are particularly thankful to those who have been in touch this past week to let us know they have set up a new Standing Order or have increased their existing Standing Order.

Again, we can only express our thanks and our gratitude to all who contribute to the Parish.
