John 14:6 Dear Parents, As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, it is fitting to share news and pictures of yesterday’s “Let Freedom Sing” musical performance by our K-5 th grades. Each class donned red, white, and blue and sang songs about our country celebrating our great history of democracy and freedom. Much thanks to Mrs. Mancini for all the hard work she put into producing the show. I know our guests enjoyed it! In November, the 4 th & 5 th grade students wrote letters to Mrs. Nies’ brother-in-law Sgt. Timothy Uphoff, who is serving in the Army on special mission in Afghanistan. As a special thank you and tribute to our school, Sgt. Uphoff’s group (B Company, 2/238th General Support Aviation Battalion "River City Hookers" from Peoria, IL) flew an American flag in their Chinook helicopter. It has flown over Afghanistan several hundred miles on air assault missions to find the enemy, on resupply missions, and to forward operating bases bringing mail, ammunition, food, water and other supplies to support American and coalition troops. It has flown with Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen. The flag, along with a commemorative certificate, was retired on April 21, 2018, and sent to our school as a thank you gift. This week the City of Aurora is celebrating Vets Week sponsored by the Aurora Veterans Advisory Council. Our 7 th grade student Alyssa Rios will be honored tonight at the Santori Public Library for her winning art display. Alyssa was also invited to march in Aurora’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday. Today we honored our Mother Mary with a May Crowning celebration. It was also the final all- school mass for our 8 th grade. Our 8 th graders presented beautiful roses at the statue of Mary and Viviana Garcia and Jakob Saunders were chosen by their classmates to crown Mary. It was a lovely way to send off our 8 th grade class. Sincerely, Mrs. Jennifer Wardynski

I am the way and the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

Dear Parents,

As we head into the Memorial Day weekend, it is fitting to share news and pictures of yesterday’s “Let Freedom Sing” musical performance by our K-5th grades. Each class donned red, white, and blue and sang songs about our country celebrating our great history of democracy and freedom. Much thanks to Mrs. Mancini for all the hard work she put into producing the show. I know our guests enjoyed it!

In November, the 4th & 5th grade students wrote letters to Mrs.

Our 7th grade student Alyssa Rios will be honored tonight at the Santori Public Library for her winning art display. Alyssa was also invited to march in Aurora’s Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Today we honored our Mother Mary with a May Crowning celebration. It was also the final all-school mass for our 8th grade. Our 8th graders presented beautiful roses at the statue of Mary and Viviana

Garcia and Jakob Saunders were chosen by their classmates to crown Mary. It was a lovely way to send off our 8th grade class. Sincerely, Mrs. Jennifer Wardynski

Because of the Memorial Day holiday, there will be no school on Monday, May 28th. Enjoy the long weekend! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This Friday is last day that uniforms need to be worn for this school year. Please be sure your child follows the dress code for dress down days that can be found in the school handbook. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The used uniform sale will take place next week beginning Tuesday, May 29, at

8:15 a.m. (no earlier) through Friday, June 1 in the foyer. Please bring any uniform items you wish to sell to the upper building at that time. Pants should be

folded and placed on the tables. All other items should be on hangers. Please bring only official school uniform items that will comply with the new uniform policy and are in good shape to the sale. Pin an envelope with your name and the price of the item onto every item you bring. Stating the size on the envelope is also helpful. The sale is run on the honor system. If you wish to purchase something, remove the envelope and place your money inside. Put the envelope into the box in the office and it will be forwarded to the correct person. Please bring small bills and change with you to the sale. The office

will not have any money available to make change. The sale will run until 3:00 on Friday. All unsold items must be picked up by that day. Any items left after 3:00 Friday will be given to charity. If you are coming to the sale, please remember that parking is not allowed in the circle drive in the

morning before school begins. As you know, beginning next year, students will be required to be in compliance with the new

uniform code. Button down shirts and blouses will no longer be worn. Only polo shirts will be

allowed. Boys in grades K – 8 and girls in grades 6 – 8 must have the official polo with the school

logo. Girls in K – 5 must wear a polo under the uniform jumper, but it does not have to have the

logo. The old crew neck sweatshirts will no longer be part of the uniform. The sweatshirt will be

changed to a quarter-zip with the logo. Please call if you have any questions.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- St. Katherine Drexel Church is collecting school uniform items to donate to The Sapa Un Catholic Academy, part of the St. Francis Mission on the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota. Mrs. Kate Mayer, one of our parents has, asked us to spread the word that if you have uniform items that are no longer part of the Annunciation uniform she would be happy to accept them and forward them to the mission. There is a box in the lobby where you may place any items you wish to donate. This could be a great way to make good use of the white blouses and blue shirts that can’t be worn next year. Thank you. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you were issued a key card to the school for any purpose during the school year, please return it to the office at this time. These keys are expensive so it is important that we get all of them back. All keys will be disabled on June 6th. Thank you. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Attention 7th

and 8th

Graders and Parents: Once report cards have been published on SchoolSpeak, please make a copy for yourself. Seventh graders will need a copy next year for when

applying to high school and 8th

graders will need one when they start Driver’s Education. Please do

this right away as you will not be able to access report cards once the system changes over to the new

school year. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
