Everyone should be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger
for anger does not accomplish the righteousness of God. James 1:19
Dear Parents,
Today you received an email with information on the services for Micah White on February
29 from 10:00-12:30 at Daleiden Mortuary on Lake Street in Aurora followed by a service at
1:00pm at Annunciation Church. I also introduced information on the schoolwide
project to honor the life of Micah White. On our next $1.00 dress down day on Friday,
March 6 we will be collecting donations to be used to purchase a tree (and placard) to
be planted on campus in Micah’s honor. Extra money raised will go toward items for
the White children, such as passes to the Morton Arboretum, Brookfield Zoo, and other
experiences. Our entire school community offers our prayers to the White family.
The children are really getting excited by the Penny Wars sponsored by the Service Club.
The classes are competing against each other through 2/28 to raise money for Waterleaf Women’s
Center. The winning class from each building will receive a special treat on me. Also, don’t forget
about the Cupcake Contest on Monday 2/24 sponsored by Student Council. Students can
decorate 8-12 cupcakes to be voted on by the classes. Children can bring in quarters to cast
their vote, similar to how we did the pumpkin contest in the fall.
Today was the due date to return your Walk-a-Thon packet with the names of 18 possible
sponsors so your child(ren) can have a free dress down day on 2/28, but we will extend the
deadline one day so please send your packets in to school by TOMORROW. Children who
earn the dress down day on 2/28 will be listed in the newsletter next Wednesday. The class
with the highest participation percentage will earn an ice cream party on 2/28, also. All
students get a FREE t-shirt to wear the day of the walk, so please go onto School Speak to order
your child(ren)’s Walk-a-Thon t-shirt.
Lent begins next week and we will celebrate Ash Wednesday with an all-school mass on
2/26 at 11:00am. We will have Stations of the Cross for grades 1-8 on the following Fridays 2/28,
3/13, and 3/27 at 8:45am in the church and parents are welcome to join us. I have included some
resources for you to use with your family during the Lenten season.

Many students have amazing talents that may not lend themselves to doing an act on stage.
We want to have a forum to feature these unique skills too.
Last year’s Talent Showcase was a huge hit!
We are excited to see what our students have to share this year!
Each Talent Showcase participant will have a table to fill with their special items. There will be plenty of
time allowed after school for participants and their parents to set up their display. The showcase will be
open for about an hour before the Talent Show begins. Participants will stand by their table to talk about
their showcase and answer visitors’ questions.

Penny WarTo support
Waterleaf’s Baby Bottles for Life
Here is how to play:
Put lots of pennies in the jar for your grade!
Put some coins or dollar bills in the jars for other grades! Every silver coin or dollar cancels out an equivalent number of pennies from that jar. (For example: if you put a quarter in another jar, it means that 25 of their pennies won’t count towards their total.)
The teachers have a jar too…..are you going to let them win? No way!
The contest lasts until February 28.The class in each building with the most pennies that still count will be awarded a class prize from Mrs. Wardynski.
All of the money collected will be given to Waterleaf Women’s Center.
So the real winners will definitely be the parents who feel our love and their precious,
tiny babies!

Annunciation’s
CREATIVE CUPCAKE CONTEST
Decorate and display 8-15 cupcakes. Be creative!
It will be Mardi Gras that week,
so we invite you to use that as your inspiration.
However, you may choose any theme for decorating.
You can display your cupcakes on a plate or in a creative manner.
First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded
The contest date is Monday, February 24 Bring all cupcake entries to the upper building lobby before school.
The cupcakes will be on display in the STEM lab.
All classes will have a chance to see all the cupcakes and vote.
Bring quarters to vote for your favorite cupcakes!
After school, we will sell the cupcakes at each building for 50 cents each.
