2016/2017 year has been one of transformation for the organisation, reporting our first profitable year in ten years. This could not have been done without the support of the tireless efforts of The Epilepsy staff, epilepsy families and our event Sponsors.
Our Client Services Team consists of two Social Workers -Dianne Day and Ann Heapy and two Registered Nurses - Rosanna Di Vittorio and Anne-Marie Doley. They have undertaken the enormous task of supporting so many individuals and families who have contacted our team for assistance. The relationships established with the Women’s and Children’s Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre have seen a dramatic increase in referrals to our Centre for Care Plans. The demand for training within Child Care Centres, Schools and Workplaces has tripled in the past year.
Tens of thousands of Epilepsy Centre awareness flyers have also been distributed across all of South Australia and parts of the Northern Territory to Hospitals, Doctors Surgeries and Pharmacies to ensure that everyone living with epilepsy understands our resources are available to anyone in need. This awareness campaign has contributed to an escalation of telephone calls and visits to The Epilepsy Centre. All of these vital Brochures were printed from the fundraising efforts of Kym Meers, who conducted “Izla’s Purple Crusade”, a 10 kilometre run from the Semaphore Jetty which raised just over $20,000.
I would like to acknowledge and sincerely thank all the individuals, families and sponsors who have been steadfast in their support to The Epilepsy Centre and myself. There are so many people who have made such a difference in so many different ways to The Epilepsy Centre, by either attending events, volunteering at events and fundraising, or all of them combined. There are just too many to list.
Our ability to enhance the wellbeing of those living with or affected by epilepsy has been significant and it has been my privilege to meet so many new children, adults and families. Our EmFit Seizure Monitor Campaign still continues strong with a focus on keeping our children safe at night.
Lastly, I would like to thank our Chairman Iain Patrick, The Epilepsy Centre Board Members, Ambassadors Dr Michelle Bellon and John Stock OAM, Patron Mrs Fiona MacLachlan OAM and Chief Patron His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC. Your support to The Epilepsy Centre has been immeasurable.

This year has seen the Epilepsy Association of SA & NT Inc. (The Epilepsy Centre) continue to build on the changes made last year, building a sustainable financial base from which to grow our service offering. Our CEO, Robyn Wakefield, had her first full year in the role, with a budget she and her team had worked with the Board to develop and of which the Management Team had full ownership. It was a delight to see the unbridled enthusiasm with which Robyn embraced the challenges and particularly pleasing to have a budget delivered as forecast for the year. This is the cornerstone of the Epilepsy Centre’s ongoing viability and has enabled us to start growing the services we are able to offer our community, which is of course the reason we exist. While we continue to receive no South Australian Government support, we continue to press both members of the Government, Opposition and Independents. We have continued to take a forthright position in communicating this lack of support to the broader community. We are hopeful that this will eventually lead to some level of support for our services from the Government; our aim would be to gain some commitment from both sides of the aisle in the run-up to next year’s State Election. It is worth noting that any funding we received from Government could be applied directly to service delivery as the lack of support in the past means that we are quite self-sufficient in meeting our day to day overheads. We have continued to build our relationships with private benefactors within the community and in addition to the invaluable support from our Ambassador, Mr John Stock OAM. We also welcomed back former Board Member and past President, Dr Michelle Bellon as an Ambassador and were delighted to have Mrs Fiona MacLachlan join EASANT as Patron. His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, Governor of South Australia remains our Chief Patron. We saw one of the great benefits of this a few months ago when His Excellency hosted EASANT at Government House, an event which saw a number of incredibly worthy recipients formally recognised for their efforts. I would like to thank all our staff for their efforts over the past year. Robyn and her staff have put in an enormous effort to make The Epilepsy Centre a success. Thank you all for going the extra mile, or ten! I take this opportunity to personally thank The Board for their ongoing commitment to The Epilepsy Centre. Everyone leads busy lives and our Board Members are no exception, so it is a credit to each of them that they volunteer their services to EASANT. Finally, after several years on the Board, the past two as President, I am retiring from the Board, making this my last meeting. However, while I will no longer hold any official position I hope to continue to be of service to EASANT in the future. Iain Patrick President

Client Services Report
9
During this Financial Year the Client Services Team has continued to successfully support clients of The Epilepsy Centre of SA and NT
to fully realise their potential and to participate in and contribute to society.
The Client Services Team currently consists of two part time Social Workers, two part time Registered Nurses, and two volunteers.
Each team member brings to the workplace their own skills and expertise, thereby maintaining a unique and specialised supportive
environment for the clients they work with.
Our Social Workers deliver a high quality person centred support approach to those living with epilepsy, helping them to achieve
their individual goals. The Client Services Team provide assistance for daily living skills for those living with epilepsy, working with
them so that they can fully realise their own potential and to boost their social and economic participation in society. This Financial
Year the team has also spent their time researching and understanding the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). An
opportunity for funding has been provided through the delivery of Therapeutic Supports allowing registered members of the team
to support registered NDIS clients who have added epilepsy to their NDIS Plan.
Our Registered Nurses deliver services such as individual Medical Care Plans, Midazolam Training and Epilepsy Awareness
Education. Education regarding Epilepsy is provided to schools, kindergartens, childcare centres and workplaces.
Together the team have worked to re-establish the Young Epilepsy Leaders of South Australia Youth Group and as part of this our
youth enjoyed a wonderful two day camp at Nungyara Retreat at Belair this Financial Year. Earlier a Youth Workshop was delivered
in partnership with Community Bridging Services (CBS).
Client Services had the privilege of continuing to refer children to Make a Wish so that our children with epilepsy could receive their
own special life wish. The Social Workers also nominate children for The Children of Courage Awards which are held at Government
House annually. These awards recognise both the children’s and their parent’s achievements. The Social Workers have continued to
work with clients, supporting them with their psychosocial needs related to epilepsy and informing them of the risks of Sudden
Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP).
The Client Services Team continues to work with the Call Centre Team raising Epilepsy Awareness and supporting families whose
children have seizures whilst asleep. With the increase of SUDEP awareness, the Call Centre work to raise the much needed funds
required for seizure monitors after the Client Services Team have identified the clients in need of these monitors.
The team continues to liaise with Non-Government and Government organisations, building strong partnerships with Flinders
Medical Centre and the Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
We look forward to a successful, exciting year ahead, meeting the challenge to deliver high quality, capacity building,
value-for-money supports. We are ready to consider new business models, explore new ideas and collaborations, technologies and
service offerings which are responsive to the clients’ individual choices, all in line with The Epilepsy Association’s aim - to improve in
all respects the welfare of people with epilepsy and their families in South Australia and the Northern Territory.

Marketing Report
Bosses Day Out 2017
Over the past twelve months, the focus of the of the Marketing and Communications sub-committee has been on growing the
profile of EASANT and increasing the awareness of the services provided by EASANT.
We held a number of events for fundraising purposes to generate revenue to provide services to South Australians and those in
the Northern Territory that are living with epilepsy. Our most successful event this year was the Bosses Day Out, which was held at
Adelaide Oval. We had 421 guests at the event and over $52,000 was raised for EASANT.
This year we took a different approach to our Purple Day event, which is our major event for engaging with families living with
epilepsy. We held an event indoors at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, which was really well attended by families all wearing
purple. This was a great way for children living with epilepsy to participate in a number of fun activities and avoid the March
heatwave. These activities included rock climbing, snake handling and rolling around in Zorb balls. It was incredible to see so many
children and parents having such a great time and getting involved in so many diverse activities.
We also had a number of sponsors and supporters this year to build upon the great work of other organisations and opportunities
for fundraising. We would like to thank the following partners for their generous support; Adelaide BMW, Adelaide Dial A Car,
Adelaide Football Club, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Adelaide Ferrari, Adelaide Oval, Ayers House, Boileau, Bunnings
Warehouse Prospect, Crows Children Foundation, FiveAA, Go Get Em Fishing, Hong Kong Business Association of South Australia,
Invogue Limousines, Kalou Models, Kirin, Liverpool Football Club, Lion, Mitsubishi Electric, Mueller Air Conditioning, Multi Channel
Network, National Australia Bank, Penny’s Hill, Port Adelaide Football Club, Pro Paint ‘n Panel, Smith Brothers Group, The Black
Chook, Wynns and Zonte's Footstep.
We are extremely grateful for the support of our partners, sponsors and guests, as their contributions ensure that we manage
successful and sustainable events. This year EASANT further enhanced our online presence by increasing engagement with our
website and social media initiatives. Our website is generating an average of $5,185 in revenue per month, with over $62,200 for
the year.
Our Facebook community continues to evolve and is extremely important for building a strong connection with families living with
epilepsy. We had 14,569 page likes for the year as at 30 June and regularly receive over 200 likes per month. We also had high
levels of engagement on Instagram with 5,055 followers and 4,239 followers on Twitter as at 30 June 2017.
It has been an extremely successful year for EASANT. We thank all the volunteers that have assisted with marketing activities
throughout the year and the continued efforts of our staff.
