EDITOR’S PAGE THANK YOU to those who provided articles and photos for this month’s Colonial. I JUST NEED a couple of car restoration stories OR stories about cars bought restored and a picture for the cover. I have a lot of photos that come with articles, that I cannot fit into the Colonial but I will put them on a USB to be shown at Presentation Night. Anyone going to the Eastern Creek Classic, BIg Boys Toys or the Landrover meet—HOW ABOUT A STORY? Week Day Social Lunches Friday 5 August 12 noon and every first Friday: Sandwich lunch at the Southern Cross Club, Woden. All CACMC members welcome. Friday 19 August Retreads car run is to the Vikings Club, Heidelberg Street, Conder (called Lanyon Vikings), 12 noon. All club members welcome. Any enquiries to Alec McKernan on 6286 1046. On Friday 16 September we will go the Murrumbateman Inn. Please Get Well Please advise Grahame Crocket if you know of anyone who could use a cheer-up card, especially if they are in hospital. Also let us know about any special anniversaries or the death of a member. Happily Bob and Helen Alexander are doing well again. Trust Joe Vavra’s knee replacement is not giving him so much pain now. September Colonial As mentioned at the April meeting I will need help with the September Colonial as I am going away on 22 August. The copy will need to go to the printers on 29 August. Of course someone taking over as Editor full time (I could supply relief occasionally) would be my prayer. Canberra Swap Meet - 6 November An indoor site has been booked for the Club. Joe Micallef will be looking for volunteers to man the site. DON’T FORGET The Census is due to be done on the night of our next meeting, so don’t forget it—not an excuse to miss the meeting though!! COMMITTEE FOR 2016-2017 Time to start thinking about how you can help out with management of your club in the coming year. Talk to someone on the committee and offer your services. See you Tuesday, Cheers, Helen

CLUB RUN TO NERRIGA, SUNDAY 17 JULY 2016 A small contingent left the Spotlight car park just after 1030 for the trip to Nerriga, the purpose being a nice medium-length outing and lunch at the Nerriga Hotel. The travellers were farewelled by several envious members, either being less intrepid or having other pressing commitments that day. The day was fine and mainly sunny, with some fog encountered as we approached and skirted the Eastern side of Lake George. The route was through Tarago, the home of the much frequented Loaded Dog Hotel. It was pleasant being chauffeured in Graham Bigg's recently-acquired 1975 BMW 520, which purred along nicely and handled the variable road surfaces past Tarago very well. Travellers arrived at the hotel about midday and made their orders for what proved to be a most enjoyable lunch. The inside of the dining area of the hotel, which was refurbished about six years ago, is attractively rustic with old photos adorning the walls and two log fires. The placed seemed very popular, with people packing the place out by the time our group got up, eminently satisfied. Quite a few motorcyclists had parked their gleaming steeds outside by this time, and several of us gawked at one in particular, a Boom Mustang tricycle. It had exaggerated raked forks, was longer than a compact car, and was powered by a four cylinder car engine. Nerriga is a very small town on the edge of the Morton National Park, on the road between Braidwood and Nowra. It's position on this road makes it a convenient place to stop for a meal and drink at the hotel. This patronage would have been improved by the recent upgrading of the road and bridgework over the nearby Shoalhaven River. The hotel was originally built in the 1860's, and anything remaining of the earlier structure would have some stories to tell about the early days of the alluvial gold mining explorations nearby. It was originally named the Commercial, then the Cricketers Arms, the Bark Tree and finally the Nerriga Hotel. (I hope I have listed the earlier titles in the correct order). After a ramble along the street to look at the other buildings, the BMW's passengers seated themselves for a pleasant return journey, stopping briefly at the bakery at Bungendore for a cuppa. Vehicles and passengers on the run were:

PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE CONSTITUTION OF THE CANBERRA ANTIQUE & CLASSIC MOTOR CLUB INC – New Membership Applicaon Requirements The Present Situaon Our Constuon currently requires Applicaons for Membership to be endorsed by a Proposer and a Seconder and then to go through a process that can take, at best, two complete months before approval is granted. For a new member, wishing to get their car put onto concessional registraon, this can be a very frustrang waing me. Reasons for Change At present, very few applicaons are received with the Proposer and Seconder details completed. Even when these secons have been signed, the applicant is rarely genuinely known by either the Proposer or the Seconder. Furthermore, Applicaons lodged electronically simply cannot be “signed” by a Proposer and Seconder. In this day and age, this is an outmoded requirement that even now we are treang as being redundant. As such, this requirement should be simply removed. The second concern comes about due to a fear that an Applicaon will be received from someone who may be considered by some members to be unworthy of membership. Should this prove to be the case, adequate provisions already exist within the Club’s By-laws (Part 4 – Cessaon of Membership) to facilitate the removal of a member. Therefore, this requirement is a double-up of a safety mechanism that results in Applicants suffering an undue delay in accessing their membership rights. The Proposed Changes to the Constuon The following is the extract from our Constuon showing a mark-up of the current words, which the Commiee believes, will provide the wording to accomplish the proposed changes:
17
The Colonial August 2016
“5.3 Applicaon for Membership 5.3.1 Persons wishing to become members shall complete such applicaon forms and comply with such condions as are specified in the By-laws in force at that me. 5.3.2 Every applicant for membership must have a proposer and seconder, both of whom should be members. The acceptance for membership shall be dealt with by the Commiee, at least 2 weeks aer publicaon of their applicaon in “The Colonial” (insert) “as quickly as possible”. 5.3.3 Any member who objects to any applicant becoming a member should appear before the Commiee and/or state in wring their reasons for so objecng. In the laer case, the leer should be in the hands of the Secretary at least three days prior to the meeng. 5.3.4 ( Change numbering) Any applicant approved by the Commiee may become a member of the Associaon on payment of a nominaon fee and the annual subscripon or lesser subscripon as determined by the commiee from me to me.” Proposed Constitutional changes will be discussed and voted upon at our Annual General Meeting on 13 September 2016. Any proposal to change the Constitution requires the agreement of at least 20 financial members and a 75% majority vote at a Special or Annual General Meeting.

MY CAR—1926 MORRIS SALOON MALCOLM AND WENDY NOAD
It was the courting of the late club member Jim Bruce’s daughter, Wendy,
that set club member Malcolm Noad, on the path of becoming a Morris
vehicle fan.
Jim Bruce was a serious Bullnose Morris aficionado and, famous for saying
that driving up and down the three Canberra Mountains was always a
challenge, particularly coming down with only two wheel brakes.
The annual Three Mountains Challenge is a memorial to Jim.
The collection of Morris Bullnoses at their Royalla property now number
five - the latest being a 1926 Morris Saloon.
The vehicle was found in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney in fine
condition, requiring very little work on the engine or body.
Its first public outing was at the Terribly British Day in December 2015 and
again at the Morris National Rally in Warrnambool at Easter 2016.
The vehicle is one of only 6 Oxford Sedans built by the Morris Factory with
this example sent to Australia in 1926 to feature at the Adelaide Motor
Show.
The car was purchased from the Motor Show by a gentleman for his
daughter Miss Elsie Deakin Swan.
Miss Swan used the car sparingly and only travelled to Church on Sundays
being driven by her Chauffeur.
Accordingly when we attended the last Morris Register rally in
Warrnambool they decided to dress up in period costume as Miss Elsie
Swan and her Chauffeur.

BEST JOURNALIST IMAGE IMAGE
Club member Graham Gittins has been awarded the Trophy for the best
Journalist image of the year at the Bookham Sheep Sale and Fair, earlier
this year.
The winning image was of fellow club members Malcolm and Wendy Noad
with their 1926 Morris Saloon motor car.
The photograph was taken at the Morris National Rally held at
Warrnambool at Easter.
Graham said while the image was posed by the couple, Malcolm dressed in
a chauffeur’s uniform and Wendy in the style of the 1920s, was too good
an opportunity to miss with Wendy sitting on the running board of their
vehicle with Malcolm behind her.
I think this
Chauffeur is getting
all too familiar.

MEMBER NEEDS HELP I am doing a bit of servicing and repair to my 1967 Buick and was hoping to get pointed in the right direction for Buick parts. Work has kept me away from pretty much everything at the moment so I have been unable to attend meetings. I would like to hear from any member by email or phone if they can help. I am de-cluttering and disposing of some “old good gear” e.g vehicle parts. Some are brand new and still in the box they came in. These are from old Holdens, Ford and Morris cars and mainly engine parts. I was wondering if any of your members would be interested in them before the harsh decision is made for them to go to the dump. Geoff Dorward, 5 Bingley Crescent, Fraser ACT 2615
